Lone Star Bash Gallery

It’s hard to believe that Lone Star Bash was over a week ago! Once again, thank you to all those who participated in one way or another. It was an amazing weekend, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Also, thank you to everyone who submitted pictures for the Lone Star Bash gallery. We’ve chosen some of the best, and put them below. If you still have pictures you want to submit, feel free to upload them to the Google Drive folder. We’ll update it once more at the end of the week.

Enjoy, and Munzee on!

Player of the Week: Attila and Csaba Fodor (Attis)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is a father and son duo of Attila and Csaba Fodor (Attis).

20160725_125444_resizedWho are you?
We are Attila and Csaba, son and father, and we play Munzee under the name “Attis” which is a nickname for Attila. (Note: For the remainder of the interview, they are using the designators: CS for Csaba and A for Attila.)

Where in the world do you live?
CS: We live in a residential area of Budapest, Hungary.
A: Look on the map for the Surprise Car Garden made by us. It is near our house.

How long have you played Munzee?
CS: The account was made for Attila in November 2013.

How did you find Munzee?
A: My mom – she is theacher – was at seminary where she found out about Munzee and a few other applications. So, in our family, she has the oldest Munzee account. A few days later, she registered my 20160723_163625_resizedaccount with the username “Attis”.
CS: At the beginning, my wife and son were playing together, and I was laughing from a distance. It was so funny watching them search for munzees and seeing people look at them awkwardly. After a while, when Attila wanted to play more and more and my wife didn’t have much time for playing, I had to go with him as he was only 10 years old at the time and I couldn’t let him go alone. Slowly, I got used to it and then started liking it, too. Seeking Munzees wasn’t strange to me anymore.
A: I was searching the map all the time, and when something new appeared (for example, the Aquamarines), I called my dad and asked him to cap them when he drove home from his office.
CS: Now, we play every day. We have a capture streak of over 580 days. We’re addicted to the game.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
A: I mostly like the food feeling when I cap a new special munzee or when we earn new badges.
CS: I like Munzee for many reasons. Spending a lot of time with my son, moving, walking a lot, meeting new people from all around the world. We like to travel (of course, not only for Munzee). We have captured and deployed in about 20 countries. And also, however Munzee is a game, and like in most games, there is a competition side to it. I like to compete.

What is on your wish list?
A: To visit MHQ, have as many badges as possible, visit as many Virtual Gardens as we can, and to be in the Top 100 players in the world.
CS: Yes, to visit MHQ is a dream which will become a reality soon. We already have airplane tickets to Dallas for Lone Star Bash. Then, to achieve the Top 10 players in the Globetrotters section (with the most physical deploys by country). It’s a pity that, while we were playing Munzee already in 2013, we were not as active at the time. We were in the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Island, Saint Marrten and Malta, England, and Bulgaria. We don’t have physical deploys in those countries (just 1-2 captures), so we have to go back eventually.

Staff Note: It was wonderful to meet you both at Lone Star Bash!

Tell us about yourself!
A: I’m almost 13 now, so I still have a long way in school. I like football (or soccer as you call in the US), racing go-karts, music, and traveling. And I like learning 😉 (This interview will probably be read by my teachers, too, so… you know.) I started high school in September at one of the best schools in Hungary (ranked at 5th in the country).
CS: I’m 45, a husband (I’ve loved my wife, Erika, since ’88 when we were 16), and a father of two. Besides my sone, Attis, we have a daughter named Csenge who, unfortunately, doesn’t like to munzee, but she does help us with Eventzee as a model. I work in the meat business as a salesman, and I travel a lot. I like soccer. I played for 12 years when I was a kid, and I like rock music.

2016 Munzee Christmas Parties!

Hello my lovely hosts, it’s that time of year again – time to plan your Munzee Christmas Parties! Last year was fantastic, there were so many great events all over the world. Let’s do it again!

First step is to get your event on the calendar and think about what you’d like to have included. Prices are as normal but various packages are available which unlock certain host badges. Christmas Parties are for the whole of December and every package includes a Christmas Party Attendee Badge and some surprises.

Just like the unicorns helped us celebrate the birthday events, the reindeer will be getting involved in the Christmas parties.  Here are the packages:

  • The Prancer – Basic event and no proximity restrictions – $30
  • The Dancer – The Prancer plus 5 mystery virtuals – $35
  • The Vixen – The Dancer plus badge and icon – $135
  • The Rudolph – The Vixen plus Eventzee – $185

Father Christmas is bound to make another visit… if you’d like to have a rummage in his bag please request the Santa’s Sack option for $20, this gives every attendee a free credit item.

Don’t forget to dig out your Dodgy Jumpers again too, a badge and a spot in the gallery is up for grabs at each event. The host just needs to email me with the winner!

Don’t forget to leave plenty of time for artwork, get those requests in ASAP please. We will move to generic art options when the Trish’s diary is full and we will communicate that nearer the time. Really looking forward to hearing from you and having some fun!

For further details please drop me an email at louise@munzee.com.

Player of the Week: David Smith (djsmith)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is David Smith (djsmith).

20160717_134024Who are you?

My name is David Smith, Munzee name djsmith (a lot of thought went into that).

Where in the world do you live?
I come from Lake Macquarie, North of Sydney and South of Newcastle AUSTRALIA. It has good weather all year round which is great for munzeeing.

How long have you played Munzee?
I have just completed my first year of munzeeing, and it has gone from capping one or two to being in a clan (Hunter Munzee Hunters). It is a group of local players who aim to push ourselves further each month to achieve higher levels. By having local players, we have helped grow our area quickly, making it more fun.

How did you find Munzee?
A year ago, my son’s cub scouts group had a father day (night) at Rathmines, and we were all instructed to load this funny named “Munzee” app on our phones before arriving. The leader, who had only played Munzee for a week or so, had put out 10 munzees and instructed us (SORT OF) on what to do. We went out into the dark to find them, and two hours later, we had won, and I was very interested. A couple of weeks later, I was in Sydney and decided to cap a couple, and “bisygisy” tracked me down and showed me a few things like turning on the filters. Wow, did Sydney look a whole lot different! (Thanks for your help!) A couple of months later, I was in Sydney again and was tracked down by “GD”. This time, he talked me into joining the clan he was in, and from there on out, I was hooked. I would also like to thank “czechroo” for his help and guidance in the game.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I love meeting other players, listening to their stories, and hopefully learning new things. I love playing the game and working out strategies with the clan. I go out of my way to help other Munzee players when I can, especially new players, as others have done for me. We have a great clan in Newcastle with terrific people in it. We are trying new things all the time. For example, we held a Birthday Event which turned out to be an interesting one with players coming from Victoria. Unfortunately, with the time difference between the USA and Australia, I got the date wrong, so we had a real find the munzee without a map. All went down well and everyone had a good time. We have also tried creating a garden which was fun. You can check that out here.

What is on your wish list?

  1. All filters on by default. I have helped a lot of new players, and not one of them has had them on or know about them. Their eyes just popped out of their heads when they see the area with them on.
  2. I would like to see a new leaderboard with badges, of course. The leaderboard would be for capping and deploying, but no CapOns. Badges for daily, month, and maybe yearly, but not overall. The idea is not to take away from the top players who have acheived a lot in the game but to allow new players to try competing with the top players in capping/deploying on a daily to monthly basis. As people would try to catch the top players, the game would grow.

20160717_132812_001

Tell us about yourself!
I am an office fitout contractor, and I do a lot of traveling around the state for work (and Munzee). I have a wonderful family with two boys that also play Munzee.

Other hobbies include:
Hmmm Eventzee.

Any last words?
I am working on how to get the Victorian Australia Day event next year. There is a big rumour that Rob is coming down under, so it will be the biggest event Australia has ever had. Rob, are you really coming down under????

Thank you for nominating me for POTW. I was very shocked and humbled by the nomination. Looking forward to meeting other players on my Munzee journey!

Breast Cancer Awareness Special

If you attended Lone Star Bash, you probably heard us talk about an upcoming special for Breast Cancer Awareness. As RedCarRobbie said at Sunday’s event, almost every person has been affected by breast cancer in some way or another. We have heard many stories from the community, and we want to show our support.

We are partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for those affected by breast cancer. This foundation, located in Frisco, Texas just 20 miles from MHQ, reaches many people around the world through research and services provided. We encourage you to check out their website if you would like to learn more about them. To support them, we are proud to announce the Breast Cancer Awareness special.

ribbon-01

For this special, there will be two types of pins: BCA Garden Pin and BCA Temporary Munzee. While they have the same icon, they function differently.

BCA Garden Pin

We have constructed a BCA Garden by the NBCF offices in Frisco that will remain a permanent fixture on the map. There are a limited number of spots available in the garden, so there is a limit of 2 BCA Garden Pins per person. The point structure for these pins are:

  • Capture: 20
  • CapOn: 20
  • Deploy: 20

After checkout, these will be automatically deployed for you. These are available in the Munzee Online Store now for $10.

BCA Temporary Pins

The BCA Temporary Pins can be placed anywhere on the map (they are restricted to normal proximity to other pins, i.e. 50ft from other players’ deploys and 150ft from your own). These will be on the map through December 31st at 23:59 MHQ time. To avoid oversaturation, there is a purchase limit of 50 pins per account. The point structure for these pins are:

  • Capture: 10
  • CapOn: 10
  • Deploy: 10

After checkout, these will be added to your undeployed list. These are also available now in the Munzee Online Store for $2 each. They will be available for purchase until October 31st at 23:59 MHQ time.

Things to note:

  • Both the BCA Garden Pins and Temporary Pins ARE blastable.
  • There is a badge (see below) for capturing or deploying either of the BCA Pins.

ribbon720

  • The BCA Temporary Pins are active in Quick Deploy.
  • There is an in-app filter for the BCA pins. You will need to activate it.

To get the party started MHQ is pledging a base donation of $5000 from October sales to date from blast cap purchases. We have also added ONE BCA Temporary Munzee to all premium member accounts at the time of this announcement!

The Munzee community has always been very giving and compassionate, and we hope to see that trend continue with this fundraiser! Thank you for all of your support! 100% of the funds raised during this time will be donated to NBCF on behalf of our worldwide players! In early November we plan to present a check to NBCF. In conjunction, we will host a player event in the area so stay tuned for more information!

Munzee 3.2.4 and Coins

During Lone Star Bash we introduced a new part to the Munzee game: Coins. The LSB attendees were given a limited edition coin for attending and now is the time to activate that coin! Please read on for more information on Coins and how you can add one to your Munzee gameplay.

coins

We have partnered with Extagz to produce these new game pieces that open up a whole new side of the game. Coins currently allow you to track your captures, and displays them with a map online. You can track virtual and physical captures or only physical captures. (Captures made by use of Blast Captures are not tracked.)

cointrack

As we move forward, new types of Coins will function in different ways and new features will be added as options to all coins.

You may have noticed that Coins are now an option on the Munzee website. Click on the Coins tab to see your current Coins.

coinhome

To activate a Coin, click “Activate New Coin”, and you will be prompted for a code. After linking, you will be taken to the Coin’s homepage.

coinlinkweb

When you click on one of the Coin names, you will be taken to the Coin’s homepage where you can view it’s entries and the map of where captures have been made.

coinadmin

The “Admin” dropdown will allow you to edit and activate/deactivate your Coin. From the “Edit” page, you can change the name of your Coin, add notes, and choose Physical only logs.

coinedit

From the “Visits” tab, you can view where your Coin has been and remove visits by clicking the trashcan icon. You CANNOT add visits.

coinvisits

These functions are the core of Coins and where they will evolve from. We’ve also added Coin functionality to the app.

Munzee 3.2.4 has been pushed to both the App Store and Google Play Store and adds:

  • Coin Functionality
  • Credits View (My Profile -> Credits)
  • Updates to the friend search list
  • Updated Scanner
  • Minor bug fixes

Propagation of the app to your area may take some time, so please be patient.

In the app, you can add and activate/deactivate Coins. To do this, tap on “Coins” under “My Profile” (which is right above “Credits”).

coinpro

This will take you to your Coins list.

coinlist

To add a Coin, tap the “+” icon at the top right, enter your code on the next screen, and tap the checkmark. When a valid code is entered, you will see a confirmation message. Tapping “OK” will return you to the “Coins” page.

From the “Coins” page, you can activate and deactivate coins by swiping left on the name and tapping the activate/deactivate button. Deactivated Coins will show “not active” under the image.

Munzee Pin, Flat Rob, and Longsword Coins are now available in the Munzee Online Store for $10 each.

We can’t wait to see how you use Coins! Stay tuned for future additions to the Coin line and ways to track your coins.

Lone Star Bash Wrap Up

Well Lone Star Bash is over now, and we had a great time. Team Munzee would like to thank everyone who participated, whether it was by attending the events, deploying for others, or interacting with us in other ways. We couldn’t do what we do without you. As Dylan said during his toast on Saturday night at TUPPs, “There are wood ships, and there are steel ships, but the best ships are friendships.” Cheesy? Very. True? Absolutely. The Munzee community brings people from all around the world together and creates lasting friendships. All of us are thankful for the friends that we’ve gained through Munzee, and we’re overjoyed to see the friendships that are created throughout the community.

14590032_1468356879847716_1906464730372483904_o

The weekend was full of great events and great people. From Friday at the State Fair of Texas to Sunday at Celebration Park, there was never a shortage of munzees to cap or fun to be had. We enjoyed every minute of it and hope those in attendance did, too.

There are a few things to note:

  1. Announcements/introductions that were made during Lone Star Bash will be announced on the blog this week.
  2. If you have pictures from this weekend, don’t forget to add them to the Google Drive folder so we can add them to our gallery.
  3. If you did attend Lone Star Bash, keep an eye out for the survey we will be sending out. We’re always looking for feedback to make our events better.

Once again, thank you. You are the reason we do what we do, and we’re proud of how the game and community continues to strengthen and grow. We’re already excited for next year’s event.

Munzee on!

P.S. – If you haven’t seen the video of Rob getting taken down by Robbie during Bubble Soccer (or just want to watch it on a loop), you can check out the video on our Instagram.

Lone Star Bash Sale for Everyone

Everything is ready for the Lone Star Bash, and we are counting down the hours until it begins! We’ve already seen some players around the area capping and deploying, and we’re excited to see the rest of the attendees. We do realize, however, that not everyone can join us. We want to share the love and benefits with everyone.

From right now until Sunday at 23:59 MHQ time, Blast Caps and Flat Robs (which are currently on the map) will be on sale in the Munzee Online for $4. Gear up and get ready for a great weekend, whether you’re able to make it to McKinney or not. And remember, take pictures! You can share them with us in our Google Drive folder, and we’ll be creating a gallery!

Have fun, and Munzee on!

*For those of you who found the sale in the store before this blog post, we are giving you additional Flat Robs to equal the amount spent.
**Texas historical marker pins around Collin County (Munzee HQ home) will be live today!

However, we also want to share pictures that you take over the weekend. Whether you’re attending the bash or celebrating in some form around the world, we want to see!

We’ve set up a Google Drive folder where you can upload images from the weekend. After Lone Star Bash, we’ll be putting together a gallery of the weekend including the pictures we take as well as yours!

We can’t wait to see those coming to Lone Star Bash and the pictures from around the world!
