Munzee and Freeze Tag Merger

I’d like to communicate a new step in the evolution of Munzee Inc. Before I go any further I’d like to assure everyone, the Munzee family of games (Munzee, WallaBee, Eventzee) you’ve come to know and love will remain the same, if not better. Now that we are clear on that topic I’d like to give you some information on a formal merger of Munzee Inc. and Freeze Tag Inc.

For the last year, Munzee and Freeze Tag have been working together in various ways on Garfield GO! The app is powered, in part, by worldwide Munzee locations deployed by you, our amazing players. Many ideas incorporated into current gameplay are adapted from suggestions provided during early testing by Munzee players. The leadership team at Freeze Tag are top notch guys with vast experience in building apps and bringing in new players. We are excited to see their team join the Munzee family and help us all Grow the Game(s)!

The main reasoning behind the merger is the old saying, “two heads are better than one”. Both companies have done quite a bit of work together and we both believe we are stronger together than separate. In addition to key leadership, Freeze Tag brings experience in licensing deals, having provided the contact that brought the virtual Garfield trail in Muncie Indiana, in the Munzee app.

It would be completely wrong for me not to recognize the work Aaron, Scott, Chris, and Josh did to found this game, in July 2011. Without their idea and tireless (unpaid) work from day one none of us would be playing this game we all love so much. I’m thankful for the opportunity Aaron gave me 5 years ago to start as player and business relations. I felt at home and have loved every minute as the Chief Everything Officer, but it’s time for Munzee to grow beyond my individual knowledge and training.

October 4th will be 4 years since I took over as President, and I’m excited to expand that role into a larger company. I will be President of the newly merged company, and the best part is, I get to return to my passion; ideas, gameplay, community, and making a difference in the lives of our team and collective communities.

The future for the game of Munzee is so bright, with continued focus on WallaBee and Eventzee as well. We also look forward to working on AR components, and additional location-based advertising. All of these things fall in line with the direction we’ve been moving on our own, but we expect to accelerate the pace with our upcoming merged family.

Thank you to all of our players for standing by our side and growing the game over the last six years. As we embark on this new adventure, we’re excited for all of the future possibilities you have helped make reality.

Always and forever, Munzee on!

-Rob Vardeman
President and CzeeO, Munzee Inc.

ZeeOps: August Missions

Agents, despite our best attempts to keep this confidential, Director Zee is missing. After being replaced by the Dictator last month, his whereabouts have become unknown. Despite his absence, it’s up to ZeeOps Agents worldwide to continue their missions and protect the world.

Random archaic weapons shipments have begun popping up all over the world. You’ll need to investigate this by capturing and deploying Clan Weapon Munzees throughout the month.

The Clan Weapons that have begun to pop up all over the world may contain a hidden message from Director Zee. As a collector of weaponry of all sorts, Director Zee may be using these weapon deploys as a communication tactic. It is up to you to save Director Zee from whomever holds his fate.

Player of the Week: Dieter (paupau)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is, Dieter (paupau).

Who are you?
My name is Dieter, and my user name is “paupau”.

Where in the world do you live?
I live in a little town next to my munzee homezone Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

How long have you played Munzee?
My account is now more than 750 days old. My first capture was on June 30, 2015. My first deploy was on the next day. I’m a beginner. 🙂

How did you find Munzee?
During her sumer vacation in 2015, my daughter participated in the holidays games at a Munzee-Taster course that was organized by freddus.

At first, my daughter and I went out together in our home zone to find munzees. Even when on trips, we searched for them. I found it to be more and more fun as I gained more experience. My daughter continues to play but not as intensely as I do. 🙂

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
Through my office work, I sit a lot at a desk. Munzee creates the ideal balance for more movement and my need for fresh air. 🙂

Over time, I’ve met a lot of wonderful people. If there are players from other places in my neighborhood, I try to contact them and have a little chat. Especially during our recent mega birthday events (“Munzee Meets OWL” — OWL = East Westphalia-Lippe) in Bielefeld and Paderborn with more than 250 participants, which I helped organize, I was able to meet a lot of new people — and even Rob, personally!

What is on your wish list?
Besides many places in Germany, I have visited Prague and Amsterdam. If time permits, I would like to go to Budapest, London, and the USA.

I hope that through the game, I will still get to know many nice lampposts… oh… people in the future. 🙂

On my long term to-do list, there is also the badge for the Top 50 waiting for me. But that will probably still take a while…

And, of course, I want to find out how to get the badge “???\u00bf//” 😉

Editor’s Note: We have no idea what badge you’re talking about. 😉

Tell us about yourself!
I am just over 40-years-old, married, and have 2 children.

Both children occasionally play Munzee. I have not been able to persuade my wife yet, but I am working on it…

Other hobbies include:
Other hobbies?!? Besides my family and Munzee, time is too short for other hobbies. Munzee has practically my undivided attention. 🙂

Any last words?
I would like to thank all those helpful people who

supported me right from the beginning with advice and deeds, with which I was allowed to play in the clan, and everybody I have met in the course of my short Munzee history. And, of course, all those who nominated me for POTW.

paupau has included some socials, so cap away!

Rob’s Munzee Birthday Euro Trip!

As you probably know, Rob went to Europe earlier this month to attend some Spectacular 6th Birthday events. He wasn’t disappointed, to say the least, and he wanted to share some of his experiences with you.

Our 6th birthday month has been nothing short of amazing. More than 100 events have been hosted all around the world, but I’d like to share some kudos to a few special events I attended.

The OWL events in Germany brought together over 250 players from 13 nations, in Bielefeld and Paderborn over the weekend of July 7-9. The hosts prepared for a full year with a goal of producing the largest events in Munzee history and were successful at meeting that goal. I had a great time walking the streets, trails, and parks with dafi87 (our German team member Daniel Fischer) and many other players. The relaxed environment of each event allowed for many conversations over good food and a bier or two. 😉

The following weekend I was able to visit our players in Finland. I would like to thank mandello, sivontim, and jesnou for transporting me around the country and helping me enjoy my time there. It was great to meet over 100 players in the seaside town of Turku. The weather was perfect and it was nice to walk along the docks playing Munzee and watching locals try to figure out what we were doing.

The next day was a trip to Helsinki for the final event of my European trip. After walking a long trail of Evolution Munzees, we arrived at a nice park where more than 50 players enjoyed a nice Eventzee hunt in addition to a great Munzee Event Trail. I had a great time using magnets and watching a few players run back and forth across the park chasing myths. After the event, as a proper sendoff, I had the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Finnish meal. It was a sort of reindeer stew with mashed potatoes, gherkins, and lingonberries followed by a strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Absolutely delicious and the perfect end to an amazing birthday trip.

I appreciate the gifts shared with me from all the players and hosts of the 6 events, and will cherish the memories and display the gifts proudly at MHQ. Until we meet again, Munzee On!

Garfield Virtual Icons and The Tourism Filter!

With Matt and Rob en route to Munzee, IN, we’re excited to offer some more details on the virtual Garfield icons that will be available!

These virtual icons are located at each of the Garfield statues in Muncie, IN and Grant County. Garfields will be released at the Saturday morning event at McCulloch Park. You’ll earn 78 points for each Garfield statue captured, which is based on the year Garfield was first published- 1978. Even if you can’t make it to Muncie for the events this weekend, the Garfield virtual icons will be permanent, so stop by on your travels and enjoy some time with the fat cat in the future.

We’re also introducing a new Tourism filter that will include Garfield virtual icons and the Texas Historical Markers. We hope to expand to more tourism destinations soon, so stay tuned for more in the future.

There will also be an Eventzee photo scavenger hunt connected to all of the unique Garfield statues for the weekend. You can scan that join code at the Saturday morning event as well. Say (lasagna) cheese!

We hope you’re all as excited as we are to celebrate Munzee’s 6th birthday in Muncie! Matt and Rob will also be joined by Daniel “hksfarm” Hammock and Dale n’ Barb from Spacecoast Geo Store, so come join members of Team MHQ and the lasagna loving Garfield for what’s sure to be a fun weekend.

Munzee on!

Garfield is trademarked by PAWS Inc and used by permission granted to Munzee Inc.

Introducing Photo Galleries!

When we released Munzee 3.0 in 2015, we added the ability for players to add pictures at location of Munzees. So for nearly two years our players have gathered quite the collection of photos while munzeeing. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to see all of those photos in one collected place? Well you’re in luck!

We’re proud to announce that you can now access a photo gallery of images you have taken and attached to Munzees! To access a player’s gallery just go to their online profile and click “More” to access the photo gallery. There you can scroll through and check out some of their greatest hits!

MHQ 6th Birthday Bash Recap!

We had a SUPER good time during MHQ’s Birthday Bash! Players from all over joined us for a fun afternoon at the MHQ offices last Friday. They walked away with Birthday Comic skinned stickers, were the first to get their hands on some awesome Munzee Worldwide apparel, and earned more than a couple badges! Everyone showed off their heroic profiles in the Eventzee photo backdrop with a wide array of superhero costumes.

Thank you again to everyone who came and we’re excited to see all of you and more at MHQ Bash in the Fall!

Even if you couldn’t make it out to MHQ’s Birthday Bash, there are still a bunch of 6th Birthday events going on all around the world. Join Rob and Matt in Munzee, IN this weekend for even more fun.

Happy birthday to us and Munzee on!

Check out the photo gallery below to see some of the fun!

Birthday Event Update

Greetings everyone! This message comes to you on behalf of Louise, our events manager, based in the UK. It is mainly for the hosts of previous and upcoming events however some information is helpful to all players as well.

In case you didn’t know July has already been a record breaking month for events in many ways. Our largest event ever happened in Bielefeld Germany with over 250 attendees. We’ve seen well over 2,000 players attend more than 50 events around the world. AND we’re only half way through the month with more events on the way!

In addition to all of this activity, we let you know in advance that Louise would be very busy on the personal side of her life during the month. She’s had multiple long distance bike races with another happening at the end of the month. This past weekend she competed in L’Etape du Tour in the French Alps, aka Stage 18 of this years Tour de France (being raced by the professionals in two days). It was a grueling 125 mile (200 km) race with over 12000 feet (4000 m) of elevation change, over two mountain passes, but we are happy to report she completed it with no major injuries or issues. Team Munzee is proud of our “cycling queen” for this major achievement as she smashed the course in less than 10 hours! If you’d like to see a satellite overview video of her race please click here.

In addition to the time away for the race she was unexpectedly delayed due to the airport closure at London Gatwick, and subsequently Lyon France. She’s arrived home safe and sound now but has a mountain of emails and event wrap up to do (fortunately she’s proven she can climb mountains!). We appreciate your patience as she works her way through all of her usual work over the next 48-72 hours. This includes any new event submissions over the last week.

Munzee On and once again CONGRATULATIONS TO LOUISE!
