Put on These 20/20 Vision Munzees Before Looking Up Today!

To close out a year of 20/20 Vision, we’ve got some glasses to mark a very special occasion! These peeper protectors were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Do you enjoy watching eclipses?

Only twelve Eclipse Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to virtuals every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Virtual Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Eclipse Glasses will add this eye-catching Solar Sight badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

According to NASA, today’s eclipse will only be completely visible from Chile and Argentina — any Munzee players lucky enough to be located there? If so, here are their safety guidelines on viewing eclipses. The main point is making sure to wear protective Eclipse Glasses at all times — the only point when it is safe to view the eclipse without glasses is when the moon is completely covering the sun and not even the tiniest sliver of direct sunlight is reaching you. This happens for a very short time — just a few minutes — so unless you have absolutely perfect timing and know exactly when to put your Eclipse Glasses back on, it’s better to not put your eyes at risk and keep them on the entire time you’ll be viewing.

If you’re not located in Chile or Argentina but are still interested in having an eclipse-viewing experience, try to find a livestream you can watch! While it’s not quite like watching it up in the sky, the upside is you don’t have to worry about protecting your eyes — though you may still want to read up on the safety guidelines above, so that you are prepared for the next occurence near you!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. These are the last 20/20 Vision specials of the year, so make sure to be on the lookout if you’re a fan! We hope you look forward to what we have in store for next year!

A New Christmas Combat Special So Staff Can Play Too!

As we planned out each Christmas Combatant, we started to feel a little jealous — where’s our toy? So we hope you don’t mind us putting together the humble 31F for us to wind up and unleash out into the world!

31F Details

The 31F is the first temporary Team Owned Bouncer (tTOB)! It has been deployed on behalf of each Freeze Tag staff member’s account as of 12:00 MHQ time!

  • Capture: 500
  • CapOn: 300

You can find these diligent droids bouncing to the following landing pads every 4 hours or when captured:

31F will be attracted to both Physical and Virtual Munzee Magnets, but it is NOT blastable. You can find it by turning on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters. You can access a complete list of FT team accounts at the end of the blog.

31F Capture Badges

There will be 1 badge for capturing a 31F. Since there’s only the 1 badge in this line, we want to keep it a secret for now. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too tough for you to get!

There is also a line of Christmas Combat Capture badges that you can earn for 31F, GingerMech Man, Cyborg Santa, Cybersaurus Rex, and any other future Christmas Combat captures! As a refresher, the first in this line will appear as follows:

Holiday Card Collectors Club Tier 3 Day 13: GingerMech Man

We’re kicking off the 12 days before Christmas with another temporary POB for Tier 3 Holiday Card Collectors Club members! We bet you’re curious to find out all his features and functions, so without further ado…

GingerMech Man Details

As previously stated, the GingerMech Man is a temporary POB. It will deploy on your account when you capture your holiday mailbox on December 13. The mailbox must be capped on December 13th 00:01-23:59 MHQ time to deploy GingerMech Man. Like the Spyderbot, it will stay on the map until it has been captured 5 times, when it will be archived on your account. After the fifth capture a GingerMech Man will be “snapped” which results in more points for the capper.

GingerMech Man will bounce to certain virtual munzees (listed below) for the first 4 captures, but after being capped 4 times it will land on a physical munzee where it can now be snapped. If you’ve ever deployed a Butterfly or Frog Evolution munzee, these will behave similarly with a few exceptions.

Points

  • Deploy: 500
  • Capture: 250
  • CapOn: 100
  • Snap (5th Cap): 500

You can find these bionic cookies bouncing to the following landing pads every 4 hours or when captured:

Like the Cyborg Santa, the GingerMech Man will be available for multi-capture. That means players can capture a GingerMech Man on their own munzees, any previously captured munzees, and more than once if the same GingerMech Man visits you. However, GingerMech Men are non-blastable and will not be attracted to magnets. You can access GingerMech Man by turning on your “All Limited Edition Specials” and “All Expiring Specials” filters.

Badges

Deploying GingerMech Man will earn you the following badge:

There is also a line of Christmas Combat Capture badges that you can earn for GingerMech Man, Cyborg Santa, Cybersaurus Rex, and any other future Christmas Combat captures (hint, hint)! As a refresher, the first in this line will appear as follows:

We hope you enjoy unwrapping Day 13 of the Holiday Card Collectors Club! Make sure to cap your Holiday Mailbox each day so you don’t miss out!

Otherwise, if you still haven’t joined the club yet and would like to do so now, click HERE! If you purchase a Tier 3 membership TODAY you can still get a GingerMech Man as long as you deploy and cap your Holiday Mailbox before 23:59 MHQ time on December 13th.

Lastly, if you want to check out what today’s Greeting Card looks like, or review past day’s goodies, you can check out the blog post HERE. Please note that that blog post may not immediately have the latest info as we cannot pre-schedule updates, but we’ll do so as soon as we can!

Exchange ZeeCred for Game Pieces!

With the release of the Daily ZeeOps update in October, which eliminated the need for ZeeCred to participate in those missions, we promised to follow up with more information about ZeeCred usage in the future. We’re happy to announce that the day has come! From 12:00 MHQ today to 23:59 MHQ on December 31st, you can exchange your ZeeCred for select munzee types! Please note that this is an online-only feature. If you have no ZeeCred, no need to read any further. 😉

How to Exchange ZeeCred

  1. Make sure you’re logged in on the Munzee website: https://www.munzee.com/
  2. Head to this link: https://www.munzee.com/ops/
  3. In the top-right corner, you should see the total number of ZeeCred you didn’t use before the program ended.
  4. Below, you can choose the game piece you would like to redeem your ZeeCred towards
    1. Night Vision Goggles are worth 20 ZeeCred
    2. Briefcase Credits are worth 15 ZeeCred
  5. Click to confirm your redemption on any popups that appear
  6. That’s it!

We do not anticipate using ZeeCred as a currency in the future, so you will need to redeem as much as you choose to! If you’re wondering about any future Secret ZeeOps Missions (as we mentioned in this blog post) they will not require ZeeCred. These are the only two options for ZeeCred redemption and all ZeeCred will expire at the end of 2020.

We hope you enjoy spending your leftover ZeeCred! Stay tuned for more exciting ZeeOps news in the future!

Holiday Card Collectors Club Tier 3 Day 9: Christmas Pickle Hunt

Tier 3 Holiday Card Collectors Club members have their own exclusive hunt! Much like Saturday’s Snowball Gathering, upon capturing your Holiday Mailbox, a whole forest of ChristmaZ Trees will scatter nearby! To reiterate, the mailbox must be capped on December 9th 00:01-23:59 MHQ time to deploy the ChristmaZ Trees. They’ll stay on the map for 36 hours after scattering, so that should give you ample time to collect them all! Also the capture radius is increased to 750 feet for these!

A total of 20 ChristmaZ Tree specials will be unleashed! These will only be visible to the Holiday Mailbox owner and will scatter like Feathers. This means there are no CapOn points but they are worth 100 points for capture!

Though there will only be one icon shown on the map, there is guaranteed to be 1 special ChristmaZ Pickle with a different icon that will not be visible until captured, similar to how the Greeting Cards work. Also similar to the ongoing WallaEggZ! The ChristmaZ Pickle is worth 250 points for capture.

To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

Badge

There will be 1 badge for finding the ChristmaZ Pickle. Since there’s only the 1 badge in this line, we want to keep it a secret for now. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too tough for you to get!

We hope you enjoy unwrapping Day 9 of the Holiday Card Collectors Club! Make sure to cap your Holiday Mailbox each day so you don’t miss out!

Otherwise, if you still haven’t joined the club yet and would like to do so now, click HERE! If you purchase a Tier 3 membership TODAY you can still get ChristmaZ Tree specials long as you deploy and cap your Holiday Mailbox before 23:59 MHQ time on December 9th.

Event Spotlight: Raision syksy

While Munzee can certainly be a solo game if you choose, there’s no denying the appeal in meeting others who share your interests. Munzee Events are perhaps the best example of this, as they allow you to meet both old and new players in a safe, friendly environment. On top of that, there are usually activities, games, and — if you’re lucky — goodie bags! That being said, planning events requires a considerable amount of effort. So, to make it easier for prospective hosts (and maybe even recurring hosts), we decided to put the spotlight on past events, Munzee-Toolkit style! We hope this series of posts will inspire you to try hosting an event if you never have before, or provide you with ideas to spice up future events if you’re an old hand at it!

Today we’re featuring the Raision syksy event, which took place on November 6, 2020 at Raisio, Finland and was hosted by tcguru, RePe, and kilpertti.

Give us a brief summary about your event!

We have arranged normally four events every year in Turku, Finland, area. It’s not a very large area, but we have almost 50 more or less active players. Good locations for events have already all been used, these days we must think creatively. Neighbor cities and towns of Turku such as Kaarina, Lieto and Raisio are good for now, only they also are loaded with Munzees these days! Would be nice to find a location on which players could deploy for example Prize Wheel Munzees, but it has become more and more difficult. This was number 3 out of four events in Raisio this year, and was quite a success, we had over 40 visitors! The time of the event was obviously well chosen, it was on a Friday afternoon – early evening. Event #1 at the Easter time had a virtual garden (Chameleon), and this event #3 had another, smaller garden (Mushrooms). We are thankful to all players who have helped us with these gardens, Mushrooms is already full and Chameleon almost.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?

Plan ahead, and try to find every time something new. The Chameleon garden had one feature I’ve never seen before: most of the virtuals there are of colors the deployers have chosen out of few alternatives, there was a dropdown on the spreadsheet for each consisting of the colors that were possible on that location. This way a real chameleon formed!

Also try to get some little more scarce game pieces on the event area if possible, for example now the greetings cards attached to the Holiday Card Collectors Club campaign are such. Prize Wheels and Sir Prize Wheel Munzees are favorites of many players, if you can deploy these on the event site many players are happy.

If you can get a visitor or two from out of town or even from another country / state, such players that are not normally seen in that area, then many local players would be pleased. This would mean for example Personal Munzees many have not scanned before, and it’s always nice talking to players you don’t see that often. Most players are really nice folks!

What made your event unique?

One of the hosts, RePe, came up with an idea of a badge design for all the events in this series of Raisio events. The Easter event was on spring time, then we had a summer event, this Halloween event in fall, and on Dec 5 we are having the final event, almost winter time here. All four seasons appear on the same image of a tree, and the badges are designed so that the current season is in all colors, while the other three are grayscale. This way a series of four badges is formed, which is visually very nice.  Another remarkable thing about this event was the huge amount of greeting card Munzees deployed on the area. It was awesome, we had never seen this kind of an amount in Finland before. Thank you everyone who deployed cards for this event!

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?

Raision joulu (#4 in the series of these 4) on Dec 5 on the same area.

Thank you to tcguru for being such a great host and submitting the details for this event! We will be reaching out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Munzee Toolkit Thurzday: vmbiohazard

One of the best parts about Munzee is that you can play how you want. Everyone goes about playing a bit differently, and that leads to some very creative and innovative uses of objects. From containers to bags to maintenance, we always encounter something new when we meet players. We want to showcase your Munzee Toolkits to see how you play the game and possibly even inspire other players who may need help!

The week’s featured Munzee Toolkit comes to us from vmbiohazard, who hails from Pennsylvania. He started playing Munzee over 8 years ago, so we’re happy he’s stuck around for so long! He has even made the leap to co-hosting an event despite the current situation! Read on to discover his essentials and also find the link to his event!

vmbiohazard Toolkit

Hey all! I was first introduced to Munzee by my Uncle (HiTechMD). I go by the handle VMBiohazard. I started playing years ago when my uncle and I went Geocaching. I took a small break from both and then started playing again when COVID-19 hit. This got me out of the house and moving around. I have been going hard on Munzee ever since. I was fortunate enough to join the awesome clan that my Uncle is in, Surface Interval.

I live in South-Central Pennsylvania, work in Maryland, and vacation in New Jersey. My job allows me to travel quite a bit, so I additionally get to play all over. I will be co-hosting my first event in about a week in Maryland, and will be looking to host my own event come 2021 in Pennsylvania. So stay tuned for those of you nearby!

As for my kit, I keep a few things handy when I am driving around. First, I keep a neck gaiter mask around my neck at all times (thanks to COVID). I have a small multi-compartment fishing tackle case (link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QWH7VC9/) with all my deployable physicals. I keep them all sorted and ready. Makes it nice in case I have to go on foot. I can just slide it right into my cargo pocket. I keep a phone charger in the truck, and also have a mobile battery pack to take with me when I am on foot. I also keep all my Munzee Coins and Personal Munzee Tag in the truck, in case I come across another player. Should it start getting dark, I keep a few flashlights in the truck ready to go. I also keep bottles of hand sanitizer in the truck to use after I do any type of physical deploy.

Cheers!

Share Your Kit!

If you have a Munzee Toolkit that you’d like to show off, you can email us at iloveyou@munzee.com with the subject “Munzee Toolkit.” Make sure to include:

  • Your username and where you are from.
  • A few high quality photos.
  • A list of what each item is and how you use it.
  • What made you decide to use those items.
  • Any other relevant details.

Please feel free to include as much information about your gameplay as you wish to share! We want to see your creativity and learn how you play, so show us what you’ve got! And for Munzee tips and tricks, you can always check out our Help Guide articles!

A big Munzee thank you to vmbiohazard for sharing his Munzee Toolkit! If you’ll be in Maryland anytime soon, consider attending his event! As you’ll see on the calendar page, the event hosts are taking care to keep everyone safe and healthy by following COVID-19 restrictions.

Hold These 20/20 Vision Munzees Up to a Bright Light Before Wearing!

If you ever had glow-in-the-dark stars, moons, and planets stuck to the walls and ceiling of your bedroom, we think these next 20/20 Vision Munzees are right up your alley! These phosphorescent frames were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Would you wear these at night?

Only twelve Glow In The Dark Glasses will be deployed, and they will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Physical Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

Capturing the Glow In The Dark Glasses will add this oozing with cool Night Vision badge to your collection! Also, as of July we’ve released the details on the overall capture line — the post is HERE if you missed it!

This munzee is based on the iconic shutter shades, which typically come in solid plastic colors. Shutter shades feel like a recent invention —  as Blickers.com notes, you probably associate them with Kanye West as he wore them in his “Stronger” music video in 2007, kicking off a new trend. But, like many trends of today, early forms of shutter shades go all the way back to the 1950s! They went by the slightly more elegant name of “Venetian blinders.”

We’ve put our own spin on shutter shades by using phosphorescent plastic! Ever wonder how this type of plastic achieves its otherworldly glow? Colourchange.com has a neat and simple explanation:

Phosphors radiate visible light after being energized and require exposure to light for a while before they will glow in the dark.

Phosphors then slowly release their stored energy over time. As they release the energy, they emit small amounts of light, which we see as an object glowing.

This is different from fluorescence, which will immediately stop glowing once the energy source is gone.

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. More unique 20/20 Vision specials will launch throughout the year so keep on the lookout — you won’t want to miss out on these bouncing bifocals!

Show us how you Munzee! Tweet us @Munzee or be sure to post a photo and mention us on Facebook (@Munzee) or Instagram (@munzeeapp). Good luck, and Munzee on!
