Camp Competition Week 4

As announced earlier in the week, we decided to do one more weekly check-in! We thought everyone would appreciate an extra week of prizes before we announce the final results. Some final reminders for the rest of the competition:

  • Prizes for this week are starting to be awarded TODAY! It may take a while for everyone to receive their prizes, so please wait a few days before e-mailing support@munzee.com about Week 4 prizes.
  • Water Balloons and Flags will leave the map at August 9 at 23:59 MHQ.
    • You can check CuppaZee’s Camps Leaderboard to track your camp’s performance until this time. Then, the leaderboard will be closed as it needs some time to catch up with all the capture data and finish calculating all the point values.
  • Final results will be announced on August 11. These results will take the ENTIRE competition period into account, not just the period after this check-in.

Now that we’ve got all of that out the way, it’s time to announce the results for the past week! Congratulations to Camp FrEEZ for keeping its place at the top!

We’d also like to congratulate Camp QRantine for attaining the 2nd Place spot! It’s been a pretty fierce competition so we’re excited to see how it all turns out next week! Just a few more days to get your captures in!

Lastly, as this competition draws to a close, you might want a souvenir to commemorate the fun times that were had. Pick one up in the Camp Munzee Collection HERE! Among all the camp gear, you’ll also find our newest furry friend!

Camp Competition Week 3

It’s time for another weekly check-in! We’re now in the home stretch, but we still wanted to give you some reminders as you continue Camp Munzee gameplay!

By now you should be familiar with CuppaZee’s Camps Leaderboard — but we don’t mind linking to it again! Maybe the only time you check it is when you read through this post!

Active players on ALL teams will receive prizes each week! Prizes for the previous week were awarded on Monday. If you were active (i.e. captured a munzee) during Week 2 and did not receive a prize (check your Item History on the Credits page), please e-mail support@munzee.com. Prizes for this week are starting to be awarded TODAY! It may take a while for everyone to receive their prizes, so please wait a few days before e-mailing Support about Week 3 prizes.

As we stated in the original blog post, the top team at the final check-in will receive double points on certain Myth captures for a whole month! We’re also planning to award additional prizes, but you’ll just have to wait and see!

Now that we’ve got all of that out the way, it’s time to announce the results for the past week! Congratulations to Camp FrEEZ for keeping its place at the top!

We’d also like to congratulate Camp Cap-A-Lot for attaining the 2nd Place spot! The point differences between the camps are smaller than the previous weeks, which shows that all camps are working hard and that you have to fight to keep your spot! Just one more week left — keep up the good work!

Lastly, if you missed our quick social post last week, we just wanted to let you know that you can purchase Camp Personal Tags in the store! You can find them in the Camp Munzee Collection HERE!

Camp Competition Week 2

It’s time for another weekly check-in! We’re halfway through, but we still wanted to give you some reminders as you continue Camp Munzee gameplay!

If you haven’t done so already, bookmark CuppaZee’s Camps Leaderboard so you can quickly check on your Camp’s progress whenever you like!

Remember that active players on ALL teams will receive prizes each week; players from the top team will just get the most of whatever it is we decide to give, and players from the second place team will get slightly less than the top team, and so on…

We’d also like to congratulate Camp KenneZEE and Camp Cap-A-Lot as well for rising up in the ranks! We noticed that the rankings kept changing, all the way up until the last minute. We’re happy to see that players from all camps are putting in the effort and keeping things interesting. We hope that fighting spirit remains until the end of the competition!

Lastly, if you’re proud to be in your camp, don’t forget to commemorate this special time with some Camp Merch! You can view the Camp Munzee Collection HERE!

Keep Cool with August 2020’s Resolution!

Around this time of year in the US, we usually can’t wait until Fall, as scorching temperatures have us wishing for cooler days. Unfortunately, it’s not quite time for Fall yet. But we can make things a bit more comfortable while exercising by preparing a comfortable environment! As we announced in our January Resolutions blog, we will be launching monthly Capture Streak Badges centered on a year of being active. Each month’s badge will be dedicated to practicing a different exercise. Similar to how our Super Streak badges operate, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. This month’s badge may be tricky to get, but we believe in you!

Each month’s badge will be themed around the particular resolution goal. For August we are featuring Aquatics! Aquatic exercises are often part of physical therapy programs for injured athletes, and are also a good choice for the elderly, as the water can greatly reduce the impact of exercises normally performed out of the water. According to this article from the American Sports College of Medicine, another benefit to aquatic exercise is that coaches or trainers can more easily see problems with a person’s movements — and thus determine if there are weaknesses that need to be addressed — by having that person perform a movement pattern in the water. This is likely due to the water forcing the body to move a much slower rate.

What are some great aquatic exercises to try?

The same article by the ACSM extols the value of aquatic exercise for ALL, not just the injured and elderly, so it’s worth it to give Aquatics a try! If you’re not sure where to start, here are our favorite suggestions from that article:

  • Punch – “For the upper cut, the hand starts from behind the hip and punches to the surface of the water with a torso rotation; the straight shot has the hand begin just beside your chest and drives directly out in front of you, under the water.”
  • High Knee – “Like playing hacky sack under water; knees driving up towards your chest, legs moving hard down towards the bottom of the pool and slightly below/behind you.”
  • Cross Country – “Move your legs in long strides like running, yet straighter but without locking your knees (this increases your hip ROM) with an opposite arm to leg motion.”

We think you could even put these together into a routine that feels like a fight scene from an action movie in a pool! What other exercises would be fun to do in the water? We’re sure there’s more than just ballet and volleyball!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

Camp Competition Week 1

Earlier this week we announced that weekly prizes would be awarded based on points within the week. We thought this would help motivate players on all 4 teams, as every team will be starting from scratch each week and have the same opportunity to earn the weekly prize!

However, keep in mind that the grand prize at the end of the competition will take the entire competition period into account, so keep giving your all until the end — you never know if another team will launch a surprise attack! If you need a refresher on the rules, check our original post HERE! And remember rewards are only given to active campers each week, so keep playing even if you don’t see balloons or flags!

Now that we’ve got all of that out the way, it’s time to announce the results for the past week! Congratulations to Camp FrEEZ for starting the competition off strong!!!

As for the other Camps, don’t feel discouraged — this is the start of a new week after all! You can give Camp FrEEZ a run for its money as the weekly prizes do not directly give them an advantage in the competition — though they are certainly very nice in regular Munzee gameplay!

July 2020’s Resolution Is Not Just For Kids!

Now that summer is in full swing, have you been able to enjoy some of your usual hot-weather activities? While it’s certainly easier to break a sweat due to the temperature, we hope you aren’t slacking off on your fitness regimen!

For July we are featuring jump rope! Like last month’s exercise, jogging, jumping rope is a great aerobic exercise and is also very simple to do. Another benefit from jumping rope is that it exercises your coordination and ability to focus — after all, maintaining the rhythm you have turning the rope and jumping over it at the same time is no easy feat, and it gets harder as you become more tired. The only downside (or rather, barrier) to jumping rope is that it does require 1 piece of equipment and a space bubble big enough to fit your entire body comfortably within the bounds of the jump rope while standing or jumping. If you don’t have enough space, you might get your rope caught on something and injure yourself or others.

What is the perfect jump rope length?

The answer depends on whether you’re jumping alone or with a group! If you’re jumping alone, the perfect length will depend on your height. According to LiveStrong.com, anyone shorter than 4’9″ should use a 7-foot rope, while anyone taller than 6’6″ should use an 11-foot rope. If, like most people, you’re somewhere in-between, check out the link to see how long your jump rope should be!

While it may be a while before you get to jump in a group, LiveStrong’s suggested rope lengths grow depending on how many people are jumping. For a single jumper with the ropes being turned by two others, a 12-foot rope should suffice. However, more than 4 jumpers will require at least double that length! If you’re jumping double dutch, these same recommendations apply — and both ropes should be the same length!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

June 2020’s Resolution Can Be Done In Place!

Summer is almost upon us — how did that happen? Time seems to flow extremely slowly in our day-to-day, and yet somehow, whole months have passed! June is a time for graduations, weddings, and many other celebrations, so if a special day of yours is coming up, we hope you have a great one!

For June, we’ve decided to feature the old standby — jogging! Jogging is a great aerobic exercise because it requires you to maintain a brisk pace for an extended period of time, rather than running as fast as you can in one burst. The idea is that you won’t use up all your energy at once and stop before reaching the recommended amount of active exercise time (at least 30 minutes a day, which can be broken up into chunks as small as 10 minutes).

Jogging is easy enough to do, but so boring! How can I make jogging more fun and keep my motivation up?

Of course, there are the usual ideas — make a fun playlist to listen to as you jog and wear a colorful outfit you feel good in, like the people in the badge art above. Plan a scenic route so you’ll enjoy the view. But if you want to mix it up a bit, why not pretend you’re the lead actor or actress in an action movie or TV show? There’s lots of things to be running away from, like zombies, large boulders, explosions — you name it! There are even apps to help make the experience more immersive, such as Zombies, Run!

Similarly, if you are going to be jogging on a treadmill or in place indoors, you could watch your favorite action movie or TV show at the same time to help with your image training! Rocky training montage, anyone? What are some other great movies or shows to watch while jogging?

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

May 2020’s Resolution Will Help You to Rise Above it All!

Can you believe we’ve survived nearly a month or more in self-quarantine?! We hope you’ve found an exercise routine that works best for you, whether they line up with these resolutions or not!

For May we are highlighting Mountain Climber exercises as this month’s theme. This is slightly different from the activity of mountain climbing — it is a specific exercise you can use to strengthen the same muscles. You don’t even have to climb any mountains! More on that below!

How can I train for mountain climbing at home?

Mountain climbing requires strong arms so you can pull yourself up to the next ledge, or maintain your current position for as long as you need. While you can certainly target your arms by doing push-ups and planks, there is a “mountain climber” exercise you can try as well! All you need to do is start off with the plank position, then bring one knee as close as you can to your chest while keeping the rest of your body in place. Make sure not to lift your hips! You can actually refer to the badge image above as a guide. Then switch to the other side. If you do this at a fast pace, it can be an aerobic exercise as well!

While you probably won’t be able to head to the gym anytime soon, you could put your skills to the test by driving to a secluded spot and climbing some real rocks — though we wouldn’t recommend this if you are a beginner! At the very least, honing your climbing skills should come in handy for any hard-to-reach munzees!

Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!

Fall Into Spring Best Dressed Gallery

On Saturday we posted the entries we’ve received for Fall into Spring Best Dressed so far! As social media posts limit the amount of characters we can use, we wanted to take this opportunity to expand on a few points, and display the usernames of the featured players as well. As we receive more entries, we’ll update this post!

If you’ll be attending an event soon and need a refresher, our requirements for Fall into Spring Best Dressed nominations were released on the blog post HERE. As you can see, these players have met those requirements by dressing according to the season at their event, and there’s even a fun Leprechaun costume!

You’ll also notice that these photos were either taken at a distance, taken at a distance and zoomed in, or were self-taken (selfie!). This is a great example of how Munzee event hosts and attendees are being sensitive to and complying with current orders regarding COVID-19. Everybody’s situation is different, and while many hosts have (understandably) rescheduled their events, there have also been great new event ideas from hosts who’ve decided to stick to their event dates while altering the format of their events for safety purposes. We will be releasing a new Event Spotlight post this week featuring such an event, so stay tuned!

As a reminder, to thank our event hosts for working with us during these confusing times we put together a special badge just for them. The Untimely Unicorn badge was awarded to all Fall into Spring Hosts earlier in the month, which we announced on our social media accounts (Facebook | Twitter | Instagram). Thank you again to everyone for their patience!

April 2020’s Resolution Can Be Done From The Comfort of Your Home!

It’s almost April, and while many of us are confined to our homes, that doesn’t mean our fitness has to suffer!

For April we thought that popular aerobic exercises would be a good way to maintain fitness, indoors or out! Time to rock those colorful sweatbands, arm warmers, leg warmers, and leotards!

Why are aerobic exercises important?

Aerobic exercises get your blood pumping! Good circulation is important as it means nutrients from the food you eat, the beverages you drink, and the air you breathe are more quickly delivered to your entire body, especially the extremities.

Healthline points out that, compared to exercises such as those featured in last month’s Resolution, “You perform aerobic exercises for a sustained period of time,” and additionally, “The American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes or more of aerobic exercise five or more days each week. That can be broken up, though. For example, you can take three, 10-minute walks throughout the day.” The article goes on to recommend 10 aerobic exercises you can try, but here’s our own (edited and slightly Munzee-fied) version of that list:

  1. Jumping to reach those QR codes that tall players stuck on signs
  2. Circuit of:
    1. Sasquatch Yeti Squats
    2. Leprechaun Lunges
    3. Pegasus Pushups
    4. Dragon Dips
    5. Tuli Twist
  3. Running or jogging to the nearest bouncer
  4. Walking the loop of Greenies and Elementals around your house
  5. Swimming with Mermaids and Sirens
  6. Biking and blasting
  7. Picking up each piece of litter you see one by one and tossing it into a trash can (bonus points if you had to chase after several tiny square sticker backings that got blown away by the wind)
  8. Kickboxing other Munzee players so that you can be FTC
  9. ZEEumba
  10. Cutting sheet after sheet of Munzee stickers into individual pieces

Are you ready to break a sweat between scanning QR codes? Before you attempt any exercise, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor**. Good luck and Munzee on!

* In order to encourage active gameplay we will not count Social Munzees for these capture streaks. If you know you’ll be in an area without munzees, plan ahead!
