Player of the Week: Sandra Corbin (humbird7)

As Munzee has grown over the years, the game has evolved in so many more ways than any of the co-founders could have imagined. We’ve certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but in its essence Munzee has tried to stick to its core goal of getting people out into the world. No one knows this better than those players who have been with us since the beginning. This week’s Player of the Week is Sandra Corbin (humbird7).

Who are you?

Hi! My name is Sandra Corbin, and my Munzee name is humbird7. I love hummingbirds, and it just seemed too long of a name, so I shortened it. The 7 is because I was born on the 7th; the best day ever.

Where in the world do you live?
I live about 30 miles north of Montgomery, Alabama in a very small community; don’t blink or you may just miss it. I was born in Missouri and moved to Alabama when I was 7. I have been here ever since (except for 2 years spent in college in Tennessee).

How long have you played Munzee?
I started playing Munzee on November 17, 2013, but it doesn’t seem that long.

How did you find Munzee?
I was at a caching event and overheard some other players talking about Munzee. I didn’t think that much of it, but then a few days later I was looking for a cache while traveling. It was missing, but in its place, I found a munzee. I sat on the nearby bench, created an account, and scanned my first munzee. I have been hooked ever since. I picked up my cousin for the rest of the trip and was always on the search for a munzee. There weren’t many along our route to rural Missouri from Tennessee, but I did find a few. When I got back home, I was so happy to see quite a few in the area, and I haven’t slowed down since.

What do you most enjoy about Munzee?
I love getting out and seeing places that I would not have found unless there was a munzee there. Also, I love meeting people from all over the world who are as I am about the game. I cherish the friendships I have made.

What is on your wish list?
My top wish is that the virtuals would not block physical placement; that there would be 2 layers to the game. Say, you visit Celebration Park and want to leave a physical, you can’t because of all of the virtuals in the area.

I would also like the option of upgrading old Mystery Virtuals for a small fee so that the owner would receive more than 3 CapOn points.

I would like a 250K Day badge as well as some myth badges for 250, 500, 1000, and the king of capping 1500 unique myths. I know this may be hard for some people, including myself, but it’s always good to have a goal.

Tell us about yourself!
I am a nurse, and I work in all kinds of areas. My favorite is the Neonatal Intensive Care; you can make a difference for the rest of a person’s life. I also work adult ICE and surgery. In the past, I have done Home Health, Case Management, Utilization Review, and a little in the ER. I feel like this makes me a more rounded nurse so I can take better care of my patients be they big or small. I have an amazing husband of 35 years, Rodney. He lets me go all over the country to play this crazy game. He did go with me to the first MHQ bash, but it wasn’t his cup of tea, so he says at home and keeps it going and feeds the pups.

Other hobbies include:
What? There is a life outside of Munzee? Caching, fishing, reading, machine embroidery, and gardening. I love to camp, but the arthritis now make it hard to get off the ground.

Any last words?
I would like to thank whomever nominated me for this honor. I was so excited and thrilled to get the notification! Thanks to my Munzee partner OHail for all the impromptu trips we go on. You never know where we will turn up next.

humbird7 also include some socials, so cap away!
