Premium Memberships Available In-App, and MORE!

This update, 4.1.117, has been in the works for quite some time now — if you don’t see it in the App Stores yet, please check back again later! There’s a lot of changes we’d like you to know about, so make sure to read all the way until the end! You never know when this knowledge may come in handy!

Premium Memberships

The main goal for this update is to expand your options with Premium Memberships. While the Premium Membership available in our official Freeze Tag Online Store is still the best value, the new Monthly Premium Membership offers a bit more flexibility!

Please note if you are already a Premium Member, you won’t see the new Premium Membership options in the In-App Store, until your membership expires.

There are a few things we’d like you to note about the Monthly Premium Membership:

  • at $2.99 a month it will cost slightly more than the Yearly Membership ($29.99 a year) per month — a whopping $0.49 more — so if you’re buying it more than 10 times a year, it would be in your best interest to upgrade to a Yearly Membership.
  • it will NOT include the following items that are part of the Yearly Membership:
    • 1 Premium Munzee
    • 1 Blast Capture
    • 2 Virtual Munzees
    • 2 Color Credits
    • 1 Flat Rob
    • 1 Butterfly Evolution
  • it WILL include all the in-app features that are part of the Yearly Membership:
    • Premium Filters
    • Filter Presets
    • Daily Leaderboard
    • Titles
    • Ability to upload Photos
    • Ability to create Clans
    • etc.!
  • it WILL also include the following items on the 15th of each month:
    • 110 Zeds
    • 1 QRowbar

For your convenience, the Yearly Premium Membership has also been added to the In-App Store. It is exactly the same as the one available in the Freeze Tag Store — use whichever option you like!

Please note that for both the Monthly and Yearly Premium Memberships available in-app, they are set to auto-renew. If you are planning to cancel, make sure to do so at least 24 hours before your current membership period ends. We’ve added two ways in the app where you can check this:

  • Tap on the Premium Star in your Profile
  • Navigate to the [Help & Info] section

Lastly, as both the Monthly and Yearly Premium Memberships available in-app have a built-in 7-Day Free Trial, we will no longer be giving new accounts 7-Day Free Trials automatically on sign-up. This probably doesn’t affect most of you who’ve been playing Munzee for a while, but we thought it would be helpful for you to know in case you were planning to introduce Munzee to new players.

Other Changes

We’ve also squeezed in some fixes and improvements to other parts of the app, but the main one we wanted to bring to your attention is the Fitness section. Both Apple and Google Play are requiring us to confirm that we only want access to non-sensitive step data — which has always been the case with our Fitness section — but some additional updates were needed to make sure that we comply with their updated rules and regulations. We will post another update letting players know once we hear back and when this should be resolved. In other words, we have a few more steps to take before we can count yours!

Changes to the In-App Scanner

Munzee is an app with many moving parts. From time to time, we evaluate those parts to see if they can be improved, or if costs can be reduced. The scanner solution that was used in the app to scan physical munzees up until today falls into the latter. Today, we’ve released an update to the Munzee app that now uses the QR Code scanning functionality that is native to your device.

Please note this will require updating your app in the Apple App or Google Play Stores. This is not an Over-The-Air (OTA) Update, it may take longer for the update to be available. If you don’t see it in the app stores yet, check back later!

If you run into any issues with this new scanner, please let us know at support@munzee.com. It would be helpful for us to know your device model (i.e. iPhone 7+, Samsung Galaxy Tab S) and OS (i.e. iOS 13.1.2, Android 7.1.1) as issues are often device- or OS-specific.

Additionally, this change also means that Version 3 of the app will no longer be able to scan physical munzees. With the release of 4.0 last year we wrote that we are no longer able to support updates to Version 3, but would permanently shut it down sometime in the future. For now, Version 3 will still remain live, but its days are numbered.
