Czech Republic & Slovakia Iconic Location Munzees Join the Map!

Two new Iconic Location Munzees will be dropped on the map today at 10:00 MHQ, with Czech Republic and Slovakia joining the likes of Australia as our latest Iconic Location Munzees.

Our most recent Tourism Munzees will join the ranks of Great BritainFlorida, California and more. You can locate these special virtual munzees by turning on your Tourism filter.

Iconic Location Munzees are deployed by an MHQ account based on a database of historical markers, with player d-n helping us map out our latest locations.  Players will earn 50 points when they capture either the Czech Republic Iconic Location Munzee or the Slovakia Iconic Location Munzee. These virtuals will be non-blastable, so it’s going to take a bit of work to cap them. Think you have what it takes?

Like some of our other Iconic and Historic Location Munzees, the Czech Republic and Slovakia munzees will not be accompanied by a distinct set of badges. Instead all captures will count towards the newly released Tourism line of badges. Tourism badges are largely linked to Historic and Iconic Location Munzees, which feature different countries from around the world. Currently there are a total of six badges.

With today’s release of our two new Iconic Location Munzees, we’ve also decided to launch an extension of the Great Britain Iconic Location Munzees. They will now be available to cap in the entirety of the United Kingdom! Keep your eyes peeled, because we plan to release more Historic and Iconic Location Munzees down the line!

If you ever notice any Iconic Location or Historic Munzees deployed in the wrong place, please contact support with the name/URL of the munzee and correct information. And don’t forget to connect with us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to let us know if you’ve capped an Iconic Location Munzee yet!

Happy Hunting, and Munzee On!

Global Grub Special Drops for Chinese New Year!

Nǐ hǎo! To celebrate the official start of Chinese New Year, we dropped our latest Global Grub special. Joining Switzerland and Australia, our newest Global Grub special will be a physical flag of China being deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ!

Only two China Global Grub Munzees will be deployed at the moment. Both will be physical! This Chinese flag munzee will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. You CAN capture it on your own munzees.

Points:

  • Cap: 200 Points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 Points

The Global Grub specials will be very rare and will bounce around the world for the rest of the year. Players will capture flag pins featuring different country maps and then earn badges featuring a unique dish of food from that country. It might be Year of the Pig, but our China Global Grub badge will feature a tasty dish of spiced tofu!

The following badge will be earned for capturing this munzee:

Players will earn a badge for each different type of Global Grub they capture, and we’ll also put out an overall capture line down the line. Keep in mind that some Global Grub will be physical, and some will be virtual. As a reminder, all Global Grub specials will leave the map on 12/31/2019 at 23:59 MHQ.

You better leave some room for seconds, because more unique Global Grub specials will launch throughout the year! Have you capped one yet? Share your progress with us on InstagramFacebook, or Twitter. Good luck, and Munzee On!

Australia Day Means New Global Grub!

Australia Day is in full swing so we’re excited to announce another Global Grub special update. Following the success of Monday’s special flag of Switzerland munzee, our second Global Grub Munzee will be a virtual flag of Australia being deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. What better way to celebrate Australia Day than with a cheesymite scroll?! (If only you could eat it!)

Only one Australia Global Grub Munzee will be deployed, but who knows what the future will hold. The Australian flag Munzee will bounce to regular virtuals and colored virtuals every 12 hours or when captured.

Points:

  • Cap: 200 points
  • CapOn (Host): 100 points

By capturing  the Australian Global Grub you’ll also earn the new Cheesymite Scroll badge! The Australian badge will equip players with — you guessed it— a cheesymite scroll. (If you aren’t native to Down Under, now’s a good time to do some Googling.) Remember, down the line we’ll be putting out an overall capture line, so don’t forget to check back for updates.

Hopefully this Global Grub will make its way home at some point during Australia Day. Maybe at one of the Australia Day Munzee Events in Victoria or Perth? We’ll just have to wait and see!

You’ll be able to capture the Global Grub specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all Global Grub specials will leave the map on 12/31/2019 at 23:59 MHQ. More unique Global Grub specials will launch throughout the year so always be aware— you don’t want to go hungry!

Show us how you Munzee! Tag @munzeeapp on Instagram, or connect with us on Facebook or Twitter. Enjoy Australia Day with some Vegemite, and Munzee on!

Australia Iconic Location Munzees Deployed for Australia Day!

G’day, mates! If this greeting didn’t tip you off, we’re excited to announce we’re dropping our Australia Iconic Location Munzees today at 08:00 MHQ since it’s officially Australia Day (1/26) in the homeland! Since we’re following the timezone of our friends Down Under, that leaves many of you with plenty of time to practice terrible Australian accents and commit the cardinal crime of confusing Aussies with Kiwis!

Our latest Tourism Munzee will join the ranks of Great BritainFlorida, California and more. You can locate these special virtual munzees by turning on your Tourism filter.

What better way to celebrate Australia Day than by pretending to be a tourist to capture some munzees? And if you happen to be a tourist, then you’re in luck! Now you have something fun to add to your to-do list while you check out everything that makes this continent great.

The Australia Iconic Location Munzees are deployed by an MHQ account based on a database of historical markers brought to us by Munzee player rubik80, and his team, including SpySmurf, SammyDiddly, and TeamKamikaze! Thanks for all the invaluable help! Players will earn 50 points when they capture these new tourism munzees. Like other Historical Location Munzees, these virtuals will not be blastable. That means you’re going to have to get out there and do some walking!

Australia Iconic Location Munzees will not be accompanied by a distinct set of badges. Captures for these will instead count towards the newly released Tourism line of badges! Tourism badges will be primarily linked to the Historic and Iconic Munzees from different countries around the world, as well as states in the U.S. There are six badges in total, with plans to release more Historic and Iconic Location Munzees in the future!

If you notice any Iconic Location or Historic Munzees deployed in the wrong place, please contact support with the name/URL of the munzee and correct information. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for all the latest news and to share how you Munzee.

So throw some shrimp on the barbie (even though they’re called prawns), and Munzee on!

The Down Under #E1EW Tour Recap!

It’s been a few weeks since Rob took the first step in our 2017 #E1EW campaign. Now that his body clock has readjusted to MHQ time we thought it would be good to update you on the trip he took “Down Under.”

The number of players met in Melbourne, Shepparton (Shepzee), Queenstown, and Auckland made the hours and hours of travel time well worth it. The tour started with a nice Italian meal in the suburbs of Melbourne attended by players from near and far. It was a first chance to meet Louise, and a great time for Rob to reminisce with players he’d met on a trip 2 years ago at the same restaurant. The manager even remembered him, but it might have been because of the large group and the suit! This was a great chance to sit and talk with players who had recently started playing the game and hear about how the game was growing down under.

Next it was time for the big event on Australia Day! January 26, 2017 over 100 players traveled to Elsternwick Park in Melbourne for a great event. The event hosts thought of everything and arrived early to secure a shelter with built in grills for players to barbeque their lunch. Everyone had a great time celebrating this national holiday with friends from near and far, Rob & Louise even dressed up for the occasion! Rob’s personal highlight from the event was seeing the excitement as a group of friends surprised Debolicious with their attendance. The dancing and screaming was proof that the surprise worked 100%. Louise loved that the hosts planned a celebration for her birthday with cake and a card signed by everyone. Once again she thanks all of you for that special effort.

Australia Day event in Melbourne.

The next day our event duo was off to meet with the Tourism board in Shepparton, talk with the mayor, and attend multiple events. During a 2 hour drive north from Melbourne to Shepparton, Rob experienced something new. He was the passenger, capping a long trail of resorts tying Melbourne to Shepparton. It was difficult on occasion to time it just right to cap within 300 feet so he made some notes about a change that needed to occur. Capping while driving is definitely not encouraged, but a new capture proximity has been put in place to help passengers. 500 feet (approx 152 meters) is the new capture range, thanks to the play on this trip. The deploy proximity has not been changed and will remain 3500 feet.

The tourism board in Shepparton is interested in setting up munzees and using the app to help track the moooovement of their cow art exhibit. This is part of a “Get mooooving” campaign to get the residents of Shepparton and surrounding areas active and ties in with the E1EW campaign of Munzee. One of the employees set up an account during the meeting and even showed up at the event a few hours later! The event was organized by local players led by “Down Under Rob” aka Rob Steer aka rubik80. He gets a special mention in this blog post because he worked with the city of Shepparton to setup this special Get Mooooving event at Victoria Park LAKE. (DU)Rob set up for the mayor to attend and announce that Shepparton’s name would officially be changed to Sheppzee for the duration of Team Munzee’s visit! This was the first time such an honor has been bestowed on Munzee and a very touching moment. It was amazing and cemented a place in Munzee history for this special town.

Next on the agenda was a special Munzee event held at the Aussie Hotel in downtown Shepparton. At the event, hosts from different states of the Australian federation presented Rob and Louise with gifts from their respective locations. Gifts to learn more about the area, the sports, and the people were heartwarming but most unexpected were the gifts to bring home to the kids. The gifts are displayed at MHQ as a daily reminder of the people who live nearly ten thousand miles from MHQ but are a big part of the game! Thank you to each player who attended the dinner and to those who presented the gifts, they mean the world to us.

CZeeO Rob Vardeman, Munzee Events Manager Louise Gibson and Australian player Rob Steer AKA Rubik80.

Saturday morning a group of players from Western Australia hosted an event near the main “Cow Park” in Sheppzee, complete with a very fun Eventzee hunt. The hunt was a great tour of the newly named town of Sheppzee which concluded at the visitor center. Everyone had a great time and a special presentation was made to the founder of Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. Rob presented a check for $2500 on behalf of Munzee players worldwide to Allan, Zaidee’s father. During the event special cards were sold with funds also being donated to ZRF, and one more crazy thing. Rob is known for wearing crazy and colorful suits, made by Opposuits. One of the hosts came up with the idea to allow players to wear the jacket for a picture for a five dollar donation to ZRF. Over $100 was raised just from jacket pictures! In the end a final donation of $3250 was given to ZRF on behalf of players in the spirit of our E1EW 2017 campaign!

Next up on the “Down Under E1EW Tour” was an event in Queenstown, New Zealand. Rob and Louise organized the event as a brief meetup during a personal holiday extension to spend time with Louise’s sister and family. Half a dozen players traveled from all over the south island to meet at “Cowboy”, seemingly appropriately named for the visitor from Texas. 🙂 Everyone had a great time trading Munzee stories and also added to the ZRF donation via special cards purchased at the event.

Queenstown, New Zealand event.

The final event of the Tour was held at One Tree Hill in Auckland, New Zealand. Players gathered from all over New Zealand’s north island and a few even visited from Australia. It was lovely to chat with the players who are really beginning to grow a large group locally, even forming several clans. One special event munzee was even deployed on Louise’s 15 month old niece, Nia, giving players the mission of catching a roaming toddler! The hospitality of the players from this event was special with many gifts, some handmade, that are now on display on the other side of the world! A few of the tasty gifts even made nice snacks for everyone back at the office, so a big THANKS to the Kiwi Players.

One Tree Hill event in Auckland, New Zealand.

2017 started with an amazing journey to the other side of the world, but we couldn’t think of a better group of people for the kick off. A heartfelt thanks from Rob and Louise for the hospitality and the conversations that mean the most at events. We take the ideas from these conversations and turn them into action back at MHQ, including the Bilby host badge for upcoming events. Stay tuned for more lessons learned and adventures to be shared over the course of the year.

Everyone. Everywhere.

Happy Australia Day from Shepp-Zee!

CZeeO Rob Vardeman and Munzee Events Manager Louise Gibson are down under celebrating Australia Day this week in Shepp-Zee, Australia!

In coordination with Munzee events in the area the Shepparton City Council has changed their name for the day and adopted our -Zee suffix! The request for the name change came from Rob Steer, a local Shepparton player, who connected Munzee with Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation, a group that raises national awareness of organ and tissue donation through the sales of rainbow shoelaces.

On behalf of our players, Munzee is proud to announce a donation of $2,500 to the organization, which was developed by Kim and Allan Turner the parents of Zaidee. Based on the creation of two rainbow shoelace virtual gardens, Munzee donated a dollar for each Rainbow MVM deployed by players across the world. The gardens are located near Zaidee’s former primary school where a mural and dedication to her legacy can be found.

If you’re in the area, please join in the fun at one of the Munzee events in Shepp-Zee or in the Houston, TX area this weekend! You can find out more about Munzee Events HERE.

Thank you to Shepparton City Council for welcoming Munzee to your city! Thank you to Zadiee’s Rainbow Foundation for all that you do! Thank you to all of our players for getting behind this great cause! #E1EW #MunzEE #MunzeeOn!

Be a part of the Second Official Munzee Virtual Garden!

MunzeeGarden_720px

In connection with Munzee President Rob Vardeman’s trip to Australia, we’re proud to announce the formation of the Second Official Munzee Virtual Garden in Melbourne, Australia. Just like the garden outside of MHQ, we want our players to help us build this monument Down Under. Munzee is offering a limited amount of pins in the store until supplies last.

For $10 you can be a part of this virtual garden, which will be in the shape of Australia on the map. No work is necessary on your part to deploy this virtual pin, it will be assigned coordinates and deployed at the time of purchase. You may edit the name and notes if you choose. LIMITED TO ONE PER PLAYER ACCOUNT.

GemVirtEmerald128When you purchase the Munzee Emerald Virtual Pin you get:

  • Limited Edition badge, only available to those who have purchased a pin for any official garden.
  • Points: 20 to owner on deploy. 20 to owner as residual on each cap. 20 to capper.
  • A limited edition emerald pin permanently deployed automatically by Munzee on your account.

These pins will be very popular, especially since Rob is attending an event very near the location, so we expect them to sell fast and high traffic will slow the store down. Please note that even if the online store says the item is sold out, keep trying. Until the page has been pulled completely there will still be pins left- just practice patience.

Update: All pins have been sold.  Stay tuned for another garden in the future.

Munzee Player of the Week: Helen Boardman (AusTrackers)

Munzee is more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. It pushes you to explore the area around you and opens a new world of discovery. This week’s Player of the Week is Helen Boardman (AusTrackers) from Perth, Australia. She and her fellow Aussie Munzers may be up Munzeeing when most of MHQ is asleep, but they’ve developed an extremely active community Down Under. We’re proud to have the game become so passionate so far into the world and it’s players like AusTrackers that continue to grow the game. Read on to learn more about AusTrackers!

PeruWho are you?

My name is Helen Boardman and my munzee name is AusTrackers. My husband and I started with munzee as a joint team, but after a trip to Europe without him last year he decided to defect and create his own account.

Where in the world do you live?

I live in Perth, Western Australia, and we are fortunate to have a very active munzee community, because we are so far from everywhere else.

How long have you played Munzee?

Since 27th August 2011.

How did you find Munzee?

It was at a local caching event, a very forward thinking person (TheMachman) placed the first Western Australian munzee, but I didn’t have a smart enough phone at the time…. I started playing a few weeks later as soon as I updated my phone.

Perth Munzee BirthdayWhat do you enjoy most about Munzee?

I love the exercise and getting outside. When the clan battles first started we said “There is no way we will be able to keep this up; one month, we will just compete for one month”….so I guess that I like the competitiveness as well because we have competed in all 17 battles so far. I liked the mean scores for the battles because I felt it allowed the clan as a whole to assist others members to achieve the goals…real team play. I have really enjoyed meeting other munzers and discussing the common interest we share.

What is on your wish list?

Quite a few things……Badges for visiting different countries, more notice for the clan requirements and some sort of puzzle munzees as I really like puzzles – I loved Qrazy’s munzees. I would like the humble greenies to be more appreciated (the triple point days are helping with that). And of course I would like to visit the official Munzee Marketplace and meet the Munzee team. Number one wish is for an all Australian clan to achieve a GOLD medal in the clan wars (we are currently working on that) Go The Aussie Scavengers #2.

PolandTell us about yourself!

I’m 52, married to Gary (Auscapee), and I have 3 daughters (the youngest at 19 is ‘backwardspace’). I do most of my munzee hunting with CrazyLadyLisa (my sister). We go out every weekend and then interstate/overseas when we can fit it in.

Other hobbies include:

Traveling, which is a perfect accompaniment for Munzee. We still find tupperware containers, but only enough to keep our statistics from sliding, we are just too busy with QR codes.

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to the person that sent in the nomination.

AusTrackers was kind enough to share her social, so cap away!

Munzee Player of the Week: Petr Stary (Czechroo)

Much like our game pieces, Munzee players come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes even all species? Whether you’re short or tall, or a marsupial, Munzee is the game for you. This week’s Player of the Week is Petr Stary AKA Czechroo and although he may not be an actual Kangaroo, his ability to bounce around the Munzee map has impressed MHQ. Read on to learn more about this Czech born player who currently calls Australia home!

Deploying mysteries at Sydney Olympic Park May 2013 20130505_155816eWho are you?
My name is Petr Stary, AKA Czechroo. “Czech” is short for my home country “the Czech Republic” and “roo” is short for kangaroo.

Where in the world do you live?
I am originally from a picturesque tiny town Úštěk in the northern part of the Czech Republic, but I have been living in Sydney, Australia for almost 10 years.

How long have you played Munzee?
I signed up for an account and capped my first munzee in January 2012, but knew about Munzee 4 month before that. It took me a while to register as I was busy with my university studies. Four months later in May 2012, I went premium.

How did you find Munzee?
To be honest I do not really remember, but I think I discovered Munzee while googling some caching relating stuff.

Melbourne - Clan War End January 2014 IMG_20140201_171016eWhat do you enjoy most about Munzee?
I enjoy the opportunity to get outside and discover new places while riding and sharing my scooter with other Munzers (BlueBearyk). I also enjoy Munzeeing because I can place munzees pretty much anywhere and they do not need to be reviewed.

What is on your wish list?
There are quite a few things on my wish list.
1. Clusters on STATzee – probably the most asked wish.
2. An alternative scanner button on the map in the app – I change scanners quite often. It involves 6 steps to change it if one is on the main screen. If one is in a hurry or there are muggles around a quick access to this feature would appreciate many Munzers.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA3. I would like to see my own munzees that are in maintenance mode on the map in the app.
4. Proximity circles on/off in the Android app like the iOS app has.
5. A rover filter in the app and notifications so I know that someone picks it up, drops it off, or to be notified when my rover meets it goal.
6. To test scan NFC tags in the app.

Tell us about yourself!
I’m in my mid 30’s, BMI 21 🙂 and quite tall – 193 cm (6ft 4). That’s why are some of my early munzees deployed very high and they are not “kid friendly” and sometimes even adults cannot reach them. Lesson learned and now are most of my munzees deployed down low, waist and shoulder high. I moved to Sydney in 2005 to study English, but decided to stay longer and study more. I finished my Bachelor Degree in Information Technology (Networking, Systems Administration) in 2012. Unfortunately I have had no luck finding sponsorship which would help me to get permanent residency in Australia. Beside munzeeing I spend a lot of time outside enjoying the sun and Australian flora and fauna because it differs a lot from what you can experience in Central Europe. If you ever come to Sydney you can meet me in Kirribilli or Milson’s Point where the diamond mine is.

Other hobbies include?
Apart from munzeeing I occasionally play Ingress and search for geocaches. I also like traveling and visiting different places. When the weather is stunning I enjoy photographing.
