On Your Mark, Get Set, GO! #WorldBicycleDay Specials!

UPDATE: as of 6/17/21, another latecomer, Tandem Twins, will be out on the map! It is a virtual special, so it will behave exactly like the Toy Trike and Bicentennial Bicycle. We have also extended the capture badge line so there are now 6 badges to earn!

UPDATE: as of 6/10/21, World Bicycle Day specials will now bounce around the map until 23:59 on June 30th. This has also been updated below.

In addition, Fancy Flat Lou will also scatter the Starting Line, Midway, and Finish Line munzees, which will reveal her own version of the random race result icons. Caps of Fancy Flat Lou will NOT count towards the capture badges described below, but caps of her Starting Line, Midway, and Finish Line munzees WILL. We’ve also extended the badge line so now there are 5 badges to earn!

Tomorrow is World Bicycle Day, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly due to bicycles’ historical significance and their many benefits as a transportation solution: “simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable.” As our Global Events Director, Louise, can attest, the humble bicycle can be the start of something great, and is definitely worthy of being featured in our app! Starting at 12:00 MHQ on June 2nd, World Bicycle Day specials will bounce around the map until 23:59 MHQ on June 30th.

World Bicycle Day Specials

Riders will be racing in waves, but should reach a total of 1,200 — 300 per bike. They will bounce around on the map every 4 hours or when captured. You can find these speed demons at the following landing pads:

Each bike will be worth 150 points for the Capture and 50 points for the CapOn, so you don’t want to miss out! Champion Choppers and Unicorn Unicycles will be attracted to Physical Magnets, while Toy Trikes and Bicentennial Bicycles will be attracted to Virtual Magnets. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

Racers Ready

These bouncers also have a unique twist to them! When you capture a World Bicycle Day special, a Starting Line Munzee will scatter nearby, similar to a Laser Trail. This means only you (the capper) will see the Starting Line Munzee on the map. Once you start the race you’ll need to find the Midway Munzee scattered nearby, followed by the the Finish Line Munzee! If you find you’re just out of range, you’ll be happy to know that you can use Rover Treats to have Rover fetch them for you!

Additionally, when you capture a Finish Line Munzee, you’ll receive the random race result icon as well! They behave the same way as the Jack In Zee Box icons in that only the Finish Line Munzee will be visible on the map, but the result will be revealed once you capture it. Above is an example of the 1st Place Champion Chopper result! You’ll be able to earn 1st through 3rd Place for all bikes, so keeping racing to earn all 12 results!

Badges

There will be six badges to earn for these specials. They are all based on the total number of World Bicycle Day specials AND scatters you capture, but just how many captures it takes to earn all 5 badges will be kept a secret! Watch for a badge reveal post in the following days!

We hope you’re ready to rock-and-roll with these specials!

Munzee on!

The Dragon Slayer

Sometimes it is good to take a quick break from 100% Munzee posts and let you know something personal about members of Team Munzee. Especially when one of our members accomplishes something amazing that needs to be shared! Today that team member is Louise. You probably know her as our Munzee Events Manager and have dealt with her if you have ever hosted an event. On June 5th she added another title after her name, The Dragon Slayer.

Louise made it clear from day one she is a serious cyclist but no one was prepared for the feat she would accomplish on June 5th. She cycled in the Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by le Tour de France. The Dragon Ride is a grueling 100 kilometer (~60 mile) race through the mountains of Wales, near Cardiff. The course consisted of nearly 5000 feet of vertical elevation change with three mountains and warm temperatures on the sunny day. Louise battled through it all and was the first female to cross the line, in style on her bright pink Bianchi bike. The entire race took Louise 3 hours, 48 minutes, and 8 seconds. Not only was she the first female, but only 5 males beat her across the line. editors note: we blame the traffic lights she got stopped at on the open road course, otherwise she would have beat the boys too.

Well done Louise! You have made Munzee proud and we look forward to your next race!

LouTheChamp

Notice the Munzee on her sleeve? We are proud to be one of her sponsors. Also DBA Sports, VeloFlow, and Bicycle Richmond. Her indoor training is done with brilliant instructors at The Marlow Club. And that sweet pink bike is a Bianchi.

You’ll also notice this post goes live at an unusual time for MHQ information. We like to aim for 10am and 2-3pm. This post is about our UK employee so it seems fitting we launch it at 10am in the UK. 🙂 We are a worldwide game, and company, after all.

Now we hope you understand more about the inspiration behind the MunzFit events. Speaking of events we know she would encourage all of you to check out the Munzee calendar and click here to look for events near you!

Keep Calm and Munzee On!

Whomp Nation nearing the finish line

April 15th Shannon & Caley, known as Whomp Nation set out from St. John’s at the easternmost point of North America. Their mission: to ride 2 tandem bicycles from East to West across Canada, from sea to sea.  They are almost to the finish line, only a few days left!  300 km left until they make it to Vancouver where they will be on Breakfast Television Monday morning.  We’ve enjoyed watching and following their trip.  Take a minute to follow them on Facebook or Twitter.

They’ve been deploying Munzees the entire trip, with 70 already on the map.  Each of their deployed Munzees have a special capture logo.     Check out their Munzee map!    Check out their Munzee account

Whomp Nation

Are you familiar with the Munzee duo named Whomp Nation? In April, 2013 Whomp Nation pedalled off from the East Coast of Canada to bike 2 tandems across the country. Their goal: to experience the country, the culture, and the people! Shannon and Caley are deploying Munzees all across Canada which have a special capture logo. Find more information about their journey at www.whompnation.com.  Follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
