Earth Day Flash Sale and Planet Protection Tips!

Happy Earth Day from MHQ! To celebrate the day, we’re offering 22 percent off on all Earth Mystery Munzees for Earth Day, starting today at 15:00 MHQ time and lasting until 15:00 MHQ time tomorrow. You can stop by the Freeze Tag Online Store to shop this sale, and check out our Elemental Mystery Help Guide article for more information about Earth Mystery Munzees.

Last year, we had the pleasure of working with players to help plant 10,000 trees through the Earth Day Network‘s Canopy Project thanks to our Earth Day fundraiser! Players helped raise the money to accomplish this awesome feat through the sale of Earth Day Evolution Munzees and Earth Day personal tags. It was our pleasure to work with players to assist the goals of the Canopy Project, an organization that focuses on strengthening communities through tree planting.

With so many exciting projects in the works, we unfortunately didn’t have the time to plan any Earth Day fundraisers this year. However, we would still like to take the chance to share simple everyday ways you can improve and preserve our wonderful planet. Munzee is a real world scavenger hunt, and Freeze Tag places great value on preserving the outdoors and protecting the Earth. We love hearing about how eco-friendly so many of our players are, and we hope the following tips can help raise awareness about how to care for our planet!

20 Tips for Protecting the Planet:

1. Follow in the footsteps of our Worldwide Events Manager Louise and bike more, drive less!

2. Cut down on meat and animal product intake. This doesn’t mean going vegetarian or vegan, just reducing the amount of animal products you consume. Try to have a weekly “vegetarian day” to dramatically reduce the amount of natural resources used to produce meat.

3. Reduce, reuse, recycle! This mantra should be a lifestyle. Be wary of the amount of waste you accumulate.

4. Plant a tree! This is a simple yet impactful way to improve the planet.

5. Purchase second hand items to reduce packing materials while also saving your money.

6. Be mindful of the products you use. Choose non-toxic chemicals so that you aren’t polluting the waterways.

7. Don’t waste paper products. Be conscious of how many tissues or napkins you take and how much paper towel and toilet paper you use. Only select as much as you need. Additionally, try to keep your business paperless and don’t waste notepads. Remember to recycle paper products.

8. Recycle your newspapers and junk mail. Rather than throw away unwanted or used paper items, such as newspapers and junkman, recycle them. You can also look into cancelling unwanted newspaper services and junk mail subscriptions.

9. Invest in energy efficient lightbulbs to cut down on greenhouse emissions, and be mindful of how many lights you leave on.

10. Be sensible about how you do your laundry. Consider using a clothesline to save power while drying your clothes. (This will also help them last longer!) Wait until your laundry is full to wash. Avoid doing half loads of laundry, and consider switching to a warm cycle rather than hot.

11. Be a smart shopper! Carry reusable bags wherever you go. Just say no to plastic.

12. Shower more, bathe less. Baths can be relaxing, but try to cut down on time spent in the tub since baths use approximately twice as much water as showers.

13. Conserve your water usage. The less water you use, the less wastewater will end up in the ocean.

14. Cut down on shower time. As little as two minutes of reduced shower time can make an enormous difference in water conservation.

15. Buy local produce when you are able to in order to cutdown on pollution that occurs when transporting goods long distance.

16. Get involved in community cleanups. Volunteer work is invaluable to Earth conservation.

17. Save your energy use (and cut down on your energy bill) by adjusting the temperature in your home and using a timer system for when you are out.

18. Use a travel mug for your daily beverage. This is an easy way to cut down on waste every day.

19. Pay your bills online to reduce the amount of paper waste you acquire. You can also cancel your paper bank statements and work on staying digital.

20. Educate those around you in a friendly manner. Help them understand why it’s important to value natural resources and how they can do so.

Thanks to National Ocean Service and 50 Ways to Help for helping us compile these important tips!

Happy Earth Day, and Munzee on!

Earth Day Fundraiser Update!

We want to take a moment to thank everyone for helping make our Earth Day fundraiser another great example of the good our players can do! Through the sales of Earth Day Evolution Munzees and Earth Day personal tags we’ve proudly helped plant 10,000 trees through the Earth Day Network‘s Canopy Project!

The Canopy Project focuses to strengthen communities through tree planting. Using agroforestry, sapling distribution and tree care training, Earth Day Network empowers organizations and citizens to conserve, repair, and restore tree cover to their lands. Freeze Tag’s donation is part of the Earth Day Network’s goal of planting 7.8 billion trees — one tree for every person on earth — in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020. According to the Earth Day Network, trees reverse the impacts of land degradation and provide food, energy and income, helping communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability.

As a company focused on geolocation gaming, preserving the outdoors is extremely important to us. The work the Earth Day Network does to protect and preserve the environment is unmatched. We’re proud of the response of our players across the world who have once again shown their commitment to worthy causes.

Remember that if you deployed your Earth Day Evolution Seed Munzees when they first went on sale, those will have evolved to their final Tree forms by now so get out and cap others’ Tree Evos! Also keep in mind that this special will end at 23:59 MHQ time on May 13th, and all deploys will be archived regardless of the stage they have reached.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the Earth Day fundraiser specials and thank you once again! Go green and Munzee on!

Earth Day Charity Special Update

Howdy!

First off, we would like to thank you for your support of our Earth Day Charity Special. We love seeing players interact and help each other for deployments and captures, and it’s even better when it’s for a good cause.

Earth Day Evolutions will leave the Freeze Tag Online Store on Monday, April 9th at 10:00 MHQ time. This is to ensure that, if deployed immediately, they will be fully evolved by the time they leave the map so you get the most out of them. So if you haven’t purchased any Earth Day Evolutions yet, you still have time! Don’t forget there are badges for capping AND deploying these specials!

Also, keep an eye on the blog next week for more information about what charity we will be donating to.

Thanks again for being such a great community!

Earth Day Charity Fundraiser Special!

April 22nd is Earth Day, and we’re getting in on the celebration a little early with our newest charity special fundraiser! These “colorful” specials will help you temporarily grow the Munzee map and help make the real world a greener, healthier place! A portion of the funds raised from this campaign will be donated to an Earth Day charity to be announced at a later date.

Beginning now (10:00 MHQ Time on Thursday, March 29th), virtual Earth Day Evolution Munzees are available for purchase for $1/each (limit 50 per account) in the Freeze Tag Online Store. These Evolution Munzees have three stages: Seed, Seedling, and Tree.

We want to see these trees in full bloom by Earth Day, so these will work a little different than usual Evos. Unlike other Evolution Munzees, the Seed and Seedling stages will evolve after 12 days. So if you deploy your Earth Day Evolution Munzee TODAY it will be fully evolved in time for Earth Day on April 22nd.

The points for the Earth Day Evolution Munzees are as follows:

  • Deploy: 25
  • Capture: 15, 20, and 25 respectively based on evolution stage
  • CapOn: 10, 15, and 20 respectively based on evolution stage

These munzees have a 300ft capture radius and are blastable. They are affected by all other types and can be placed 50ft from other players’ munzees and 150ft from your own munzees.

There are six badges that can be earned for this special:

  • Green Gardner – Deploy 1 Earth Day Evolution Munzee
  • Evergreen Artist – Deploy 5 Earth Day Evolution Munzees
  • Colorful Capture: Seed – Capture 1 Earth Day Evolution Seed Munzee
  • Colorful Capture: Seedling – Capture 1 Earth Day Evolution Seedling Munzee
  • Colorful Capture: Tree – Capture 1 Earth Day Evolution Tree Munzee
  • Colorful Capping! – Capture at least 1 of each Earth Day Evolution Munzee Stage

This special will end at 23:59 MHQ time on May 13th, and all deploys will be archived regardless of the stage they have reached.

We also have a limited number of Earth Day Charity Special Personal Munzees available.

These Personals are metal dog tags and are priced at $10/each.

In connection with the Go Green events happening all throughout the month, we also wanted to add another activity to join in the fun. To coincide with the “colorful” crayon designs of these icons and badges, we’re releasing PDF coloring book pages of the designs. We want to see your artistic interpretation so send pictures of your finished work to iloveyou@munzee.com and we’ll periodically share some of our favorites. Bring copies to your Go Green events and showcase how colorful your group of players is!

You can download the PDFs of the pages HERE, HERE, and HERE!

We hope you enjoy this special!

2017 In Review and Looking Forward to 2018

2017 was a great year. We tried to encompass our theme of “Everyone. Everywhere.” into all that we did. There were learning experiences along the way, but the community consistently pushed us to provide the best game and experiences we could. For that, we thank you tremendously. Below, we have some “year-in-review” stats and messages from the team followed by more information about our 2018 theme.

Munzee Events from Louise

Wow, what a year 2017 has been for Munzee Events. To everyone everywhere, thank you all for keeping me so busy!

We’ve had some fantastic events this year from the Tea Parties to our 6th Birthday celebrations, the MunzFit Events to the Christmas Parties that are just wrapping up now. 525 events to be precise, most hosted by you, our wonderful players, and some hosted by us at MHQ. We were delighted to welcome so many of you to our new office in McKinney back in September and had our first events with the whole MHQ  team.

We have greatly enjoyed coming to your events all over the world too, thank you for inviting us and being such wonderful hosts. Personally, my absolute highlight was celebrating my birthday with over 100 Munzee players at the Australia Day events back in January!

We’ve introduced new exciting merchandise exclusive to events and created Emerald Gardens all over the world. We also hit new record attendance levels with the events in Germany this summer, absolutely brilliant stuff!

I look forward to meeting more of you virtually as I work with you to create your Munzee Events and can’t wait to meet even more of you out and about at your amazing events.

Thank you for your support, Munzee On!

Munzee

There are quite a few things that could be said about 2017. We went through a lot of changes in efforts to do what we thought was best for the game and company. The community was always at the forefront when we made decisions, and “Everyone. Everywhere.” wasn’t just a theme but a way of thinking.  Check out some of the stats from this year:

As we mentioned in the podcast, our theme for 2018 is “The Time is Now.” Over the years, there has been projects and ideas that we haven’t had the time or resources to implement. With the staff and resources we have after merging with Freeze Tag, we can finally put these ideas into action. These range from gameplay changes to a new app and work on them will begin immediately. While you may not see them immediately, be sure that we are working to make the game and app better than ever.

Once again, thank you for everything you have done to help grow the game and support other member’s of the community.

Happy New Year, and Munzee on!

Safar-Zee Fundraising Update!

Following our Safar-Zee fundraising efforts we wanted to update you all on where some of the donations are going! We changed up our donation process this time around and instead of donating one lump sum to a single organization we have been making smaller donations to various animal and wildlife organizations worldwide.

In addition to In-Sync Exotics and our pal Mystery, below are some of the organizations members of our staff have chosen to receive donations on behalf of our players.

Thank you again for your awesome support for animals worldwide- we couldn’t do this without you! Munzee on!

Wildlife Warriors Worldwide
https://wildlifewarriors.org.au/
Chosen by Rob Vardeman, CZeeO

“Established by Crocodile Hunters Steve and Terri Irwin in 2002, the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors strive to be the most effective wildlife conservation organization in the world through the delivery of outstanding outcome-based programs and projects, inclusive of humanity.”

Animal Angels Sanctuary
www.animalangelstexas.org
Chosen by Cecie Newman, EVP of Operations

“My son and his family couldn’t keep 2 of their dogs. They were heartbroken until they came across this organization that is a 38 acre haven for abused animals and pets that can no longer be taken care of properly. They promise that 100% of every donation goes directly to animal benefit, paying no salaries for Staff or Board of Directors.”

Cat Matchers
http://www.catmatchers.org
Chosen by Teraca Grim – Director of HR and Operations

“I am a huge cat lover. I know all the hard work that Cat Matchers does to help unwanted or lost cats. I have reached out to them and know what nice people they are and how much they need donations. ”

North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary
http://www.ntrs.org/
Chosen by Scott Foster, VP of Technology

“My 6 year old daughter begs my wife and I everyday that she wants a rabbit as a pet. This donation will help explain to the public ( and my daughter ) how to take care of rabbits, what equipment is needed, and what food they need.”

The Beagle Freedom Project
https://bfp.org/
Chosen by Dylan Derryberry, Director of Creative Operations

“Beagle Freedom Project negotiates with laboratories across the world to secure the release of dogs and other animals and give them a chance at a normal home life after everything they have endured for vanity and scientific curiosity. The organization uses the rescues to draw public attention to the plight of animals languishing in labs and to promote cruelty-free lifestyle choices everyone can make.

The beagles act as ambassadors who give faces to animal testing victims and remind the public that these animals are not just furry test-tubes, but dogs no different from their pets. BFP has rescued hundreds of animals, including beagles, mixed-breed hounds, cats, rabbits, ponies, pigs, goats, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, and even goldfish from laboratories, in cities and countries spanning the globe.”

Sea Turtle, Inc.
http://www.seaturtleinc.org
Chosen by Matt McCann, Director of Media and Player Relations

“Growing up by the ocean, wildlife preservation and restoration was a focal point of my community. Sea Turtle, Inc. was a large part of that. They rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles as well as educate the public and assist with conservation efforts. I’m proud to donate to such a great cause that I grew up being able to help first hand..”

Tiggywinkles
http://www.sttiggywinkles.org.uk/
Chosen by Louise Gibson, Events Queen

“Tiggywinkles is a wonderful place, it’s a specialist hospital dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating all species of British wildlife. All casualties brought to the hospital are treated completely free of charge and are released through a controlled programme, back to the wild, when they are fully fit. Every casualty is given a chance and any animal or bird unable to be released back to the wild is maintained at the hospital, in as natural conditions as possible.

Tiggywinkles survives on a solid base of membership and relies on donations from the general public and sponsors to thrive. It receives no state funding of any kind and no financial assistance from conservation groups. Our money would really make a difference. We could adopt Al Pacino the Fox, Susie the Hedgehog and Roxy the Raven to name a few or make a one off donation. I love the story of how and why the hospital was created by Les Stocker and everything he and his family have done to keep the place going. Sadly Les died last year but we can help his legacy live on: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2016/07/19/les-stocker-st-tiggywinkles-founder–obituary/

Tierschutzverein Chemnitz und Umgebung e.V.
http://www.tierschutz-chemnitz.de
Chosen by Daniel Fischer, Backend Developer

“The “Tierschutzverein Chemnitz e.V.” is a non-profit society running the local animal shelter in Chemnitz/Germany. They take care of 800 to 900 animals per year who suffer hardship. Beside hosting and caregiving found or stray animals, they also try to raise awareness about animal protection and acting responsibly towards also pets and wildlife. The society receives municipal subsidization, but is highly dependent on additional donations.”

Adams County SPCA
http://www.adamscountyspca.org
Chosen by Daniel Hammock, Player Support

“Adams county SPCA throws events to help raise funds for the animals. Plus they have a network of helpers who drive long distances to rescue other dogs from shelters and adopt them out through their shelter.”

Texas Little Cuties Rescue
http://www.texaslittlecuties.org/
Chosen by Donovan Carreno, Mobile App Developer

“We have adopted from them, and we like to support our local shelters..”

Animal Welfare Institute
http://www.awionline.org/
Chosen by Dan Parker, Mobile App Developer

“This organization spends over 90% of donated funds on its programs. It is rare that a charitable organization spends over 90% of donations on what they claim to do because there are administrative costs to running any organization. This high percentage of funds allocated to purpose shows the company’s commitment to their cause. I respect that.”

Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
http://www.rogerswildlife.org
Chosen by Judy Nguyen, Front End Developer

“I like birds.”

Denton Animal Support Foundation
http://www.dentonasf.com/
Chosen by Delana Adams, Eventzee Customer Service

“This is the organization that helped keep my current fur babies in the shelter for as long as they did (they’re older dogs), so they hold a special place in my heart. Without DASF we might not have found them. This organization helps with the adoption subsidy of older and harder to adopt animals, and helps find homes for animals uprooted from their homes.”

National Wildlife Refuge Association
http://refugeassociation.org/about/donate/
Chosen by Trish Vandehey, Graphic Illustrator

“I grew up in the forests of the Pacific Northwest wandering through nature with friends and family, and my best memories of childhood are all closely related to this. Even now, it plays a strong role in my adult life. When I am not working you will often find me exploring the woods or lakes, taking long hikes and watching wildlife with my children and grandchild. Preserving wildlife and spaces for them to flourish for future generations is paramount. Because of their focus in the conservation of wildlife and habitat in North America I have chosen to donate to the National Wildlife Refuge.”

Lovebugs Rescue
http://www.lovebugsrescue.org/
Chosen by Robbie McGuire, WallaBee Director

“Kelsey and I have two dogs, both of which are from rescues. Tessa was rescued from a shelter here in Texas, but Rollie was adopted from Lovebugs Rescue in CA. Lovebugs is a non-profit animal rescue organization that works with local Southern California shelters to lower the number of euthanized animals. For more information, check out their website.”

ASPCA
https://www.aspca.org/
Chosen by John Rogeles, Graphic Artist

“I want to give back to the people who have given me so much through my dog.”

Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary
https://saintfranciswolfsanctuary.org/
Chosen by Sheryl Marusic, Queen Of All Trades

“This is a charity for wolves, who are dear to my heart. Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity in Montgomery, Texas, whose mission is to rescue and provide a loving, exceptional home to non-releasable wolves and wolfdogs, and to educate the public about these animals.”

In-Sync Exotics and Wildlife Around the World

Last Wednesday, members of MHQ headed out to In-Sync Exotics to meet our adoptive tiger, Mystery, and the other animals that they care for as part of our March Safar-Zee fundraising efforts.

The team was able to tour the facility and learn about the different types of animals that In-Sync rescues. From big cats such as tigers and lions to the occasional outliers like lemurs, In-Sync rescues animals from danger and mistreatment. They provide a safe and nurturing environment for animals in need.

We want to thank you for making this fundraiser such a success! As a reminder, you’re still able to purchase Safar-Zee Temporary Paw Print Specials from the Munzee Online Store, but only through Friday. They will remain on the map through the end of April. Don’t miss out!

We’d also like thank you for the overwhelming amount of suggestions for Wildlife Places Munzees. At 15:00 MHQ time today, the first round of Wildlife Places Munzees will be deployed!

Details:
Capture Points – 10
Capture Radius: 1,000 ft (Not Blastable)
Can be captured once per MHQ day

Like the Sports and Airport Places Munzees, we will continue to add more down the line.

Once again, thank you for your support. You are the backbone of this game and the reason we do what we do.

Munzee on!
