Meet Munzee Munzday: Wylie

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. To bring back this fun way to introduce team members, here is one invaluable member of MHQ who you might not know a whole lot about. However, she’s the lady who is responsible for all of the wonderful orders you receive!

A recent picture of Dylan and me

Name and Title:

Wylie and I’m the Production Specialist (or so it says next to my name) (WylCrawford)

Where are you from?

Where are you from? I was born in Cape Cod, MA. I spent a majority of my childhood moving throughout Kansas, and I currently reside in good ol’ McKinney, TX.

Me and my spitfire, Etta

Tell us about yourself:

I’m a self-made, 27 year old, occasional thousandaire with a drive to work all day and sleep all day.

How long have your worked for Munzee?

I approved my first Eventzee hunt in March 2015, but I don’t think I was brought on as a full time Eventzee photo approver until 2016. In November 2017 I became a part time in-office employee, helping out with minor production work and slowly transitioning to handling shipping. As of the first of this year (2019), I am a full time employee and no longer focus on anything Eventzee related.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

The rigorous hours and back breaking labor 😉 Honestly, I love the working environment. Creativity is encouraged. Every employee has a deep-seated love for Munzee, and our unified goals to better all aspects of the company make for a happy office life. Working with Munzee, interacting with players, and pushing my creative abilities is a better job than I ever could have imagined.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Other than anything Corgi related? Raising a beautiful little spit-fire with my darling husband. Staying up way too late enjoying cult classic movies and sleeping in just late enough to make it brunch. There is a large part of my heart dedicated to photography as well.

Famous last words?

Why spoil the moment with words when I could say it all with an “I Told You So” glare.

Meet Munzee Munzday: Hammock

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. Would you like to learn more about the unicorn loving man with the ban hammer?! Here’s some information you might not have known about Hammock!

3D Flat Hammock

Name and Title:

Daniel Hammock, Player Support for Munzee (HKSFarm)

Where are you from?

Born in Baltimore, MD; Currently living in Littlestown, PA

Tell us about yourself:

The man with the ban

My name is Daniel Hammock, a.k.a. “The Ban Hammer Wielding Unicorn Lover.” I work part time for Munzee and full time at Domino Sugar as an operator 1, but sometimes it feels like it is the other way around. Ha! I’m 39 years old. I am married to Nikki and have 3 kids, 2 boys (DJ and Austin) and 1 girl (Kaci). I run the Monthly Munzee Giveaway, approve Places Munzees, give out WallaBee birthday cakes, and punish all that dare to cheat in Munzee with the BAN HAMMER.

How long have your worked for Munzee?

I started working for Munzee when Rob finally got tired of me begging to help out and he finally let me help with support tickets. I have been doing that ever since 2014.

From Left to Right: Myself, Nikki, Kaci, DJ, Austin

How did you find Munzee?

I first found Munzee looking for alternate ‘caching apps. When I downloaded it and tried it, there were very few Munzees for me to find. So I didn’t really play much at first until a while later when my friends CodyHollowFarm and DudleyGrunt told me that they were playing it. So I got back into it and have been hooked ever since!

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

I love the community of players we have. It is like a big family. I enjoy seeing the players taking care of one another by deploying munzees to help out others in need. I also wanted to give back to my fellow Munzee players. So I made the “Hksfarm’s Monthly Munzee Giveaway” group on Facebook. I love watching Youtube videos, I love Munzee, and I love giving things away, so this was a step in the right direction for me.

Unicorn lovers

What are some of your other hobbies?

I love Jeeps and working on mine. I play other GPS location games such as PokemonGo and Geocaching. I love camping when I can and getting outdoors as much as possible. Metal detecting is another of my hobbies. One day I will find that buried treasure!

Famous last words?

We are watching you… Always watching… 😉

Disclaimer: I don’t enjoy banning players. I wish everyone would play fair and not violate the Code of Conduct. I am a giver. I love sharing what Rob calls “My key to the treasure chest,” so here is an armchair prize wheel I set up for you all to capture and hopefully you will get some goodies from it! 🙂

Team Munzee Tuezday: Matt

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. While Matt is one of Munzee’s most recognizable faces, there might be some things you don’t know about him! That’s why we had him update his answers! Today we’re taking the time to get to know Matt, Munzee’s resident cowboy. Does he look familiar to any new players? Perhaps you’ve had the pleasure of deploying or capturing a Flat Matt Munzee!

Name and Title:

Matthew McCann; eCommerce and Web Manager (matthewmccann)

Where are you from?

Born: Lake Havasu, Arizona; Hometown: Laguna Vista, Texas; Currently: McKinney, Texas

Tell us about yourself:

I spent most of my life in South Texas before moving to Richardson to attend UT Dallas. I’ve now been in the DFW area for almost 9 years. I love sports and traveling, especially when I can combine the two, and I’m on a mission to visit all 30 MLB parks before I turn 30— I’m at 17, so I’ve got a few to go. I also love trying/visiting craft breweries with friends. Other than that, you can usually find me tinkering with electronics —my office is often referred to as Radio Shack— or binging shows and movies.

Matt celebrates the successful launch of Munzee 4.0 with Dylan and Rob in January 2019

How long have you worked for Munzee?

I celebrated my 5 year anniversary with Munzee/Freeze Tag in early May.

How did you find Munzee?

I actually knew Rob before he started working for Munzee from supporting our local minor league hockey team. When I was looking for a job during summer break in college, it was brought up that Munzee was looking to add someone new to the team. I interviewed and started a week later. (Employee #4!)

Matt found the Geocaching Vlogger (and a unicorn!) at the MunzEE event in West Bend, Wisconsin in 2017

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

In the last five years, a lot has changed: five offices, countless job titles, a merger, etc. One thing that hasn’t, though, is the dedication of both the team and the players. For employees, this isn’t just a job. We put so much of ourselves both physically and emotionally into our work (and often times rope our families and friends into it). We also see players who have done so much for the community and us that you won’t find in other games, not to mention other jobs. They’ve become good friends to many of us. When you put those together, it creates such an amazing experience that I’m grateful to have had and continue to have. So, if I haven’t said this to you before, thank you! Also, I’m pretty partial to that really cool game piece called Flat Matt. 😉

What are some of your other hobbies?

Who needs other hobbies when you have Munzee?? Ha! But, like I said before, traveling and sports is mostly where it’s at. I’m also a pretty big SciFi nerd, so I go to conventions when I can. I also love music and going to concerts.

Meet Munzee MunzDays: Mari

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. To bring back this fun way to introduce team members, here is one invaluable member of the Freeze Tag’s team!

L-R Tamara, Craig, and Mari

Name and Title:

Mari Rann, Product Manager (Kirikat)

Where are you from?

I was born in Orange County and have spent most of my life growing up in sunny California. When I was younger I’d travel to Tokyo, Japan frequently to visit family and also attended university there while I was studying abroad.

Tell us about yourself:

Proud cat mom to two of the most precious kitties, Benji and Burr! As an animal lover, I’ve grown up with pets all my life and love to spoil them. I believe that all life is precious – and yes, I’m one of those people who brings spiders outside instead of killing them. Following my passion for games, I attended the University of California, Irvine and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Game Science. At the time, Craig was teaching a Game Design course and after bugging him incessantly, he finally decided to hire me as an intern. After graduating, I joined the team full-time, and the rest is history!

How long have you worked for Freeze Tag?

I have worked for Freeze Tag for almost five years and Munzee coming up on one and a half years. Time flies when you’re having fun!

How did you find Munzee?

I originally downloaded Munzee as part of an R&D assignment while working at Freeze Tag, but ended up getting sucked into the game quite quickly, especially after meeting Rob and some of the local players at a nearby event!

Mari and Tamara

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

Munzee has led me to find some pretty unique and scenic locations to visit, that I may not have found otherwise! I love how Munzee encourages me to explore new areas I haven’t been before. In the past I had tried geocaching and really enjoyed the hide’n’seek aspect of finding caches, except when they were missing or too difficult to find. That’s why I enjoy Munzee quite a bit more. They are easier to hide and find, especially in urban areas, and there are usually way more nearby Munzees deployed than caches.I also have a blast attending events and dressing up as different Munzee creatures with my cosplay duo partner, Tamara!

What are some of your other hobbies?

Video gaming has been a huge influence and part of my life from a young age. Starting with the original Doom on MS-DOS, to Super Mario Bros on NES, Final Fantasy VII on PS1 and World of Warcraft on PC. I’ve grown into a major Blizzard fan and try to attend Blizzcon each year, if I’m lucky enough to get tickets! Recently I’ve enjoyed playing Overwatch competitively on PC and have ranked within the top 3% of players in the US.

Famous last words?

“Is there fall damage in this game?”

I lived in Columbia for 7 years until I got promoted with Target as a Loss Prevention Manager in Edwardsville, IL. I lived in Edwardsville for 2 years and then moved to St. Louis, MO. I lived in St. Louis 3 years until my husband got transferred to Omaha. In which we lived 2 years until finally I ended up in Frisco, Texas and I have been here 13 years now!

I have been a Store Manager for Gymboree, Claire’s, The Children’s Place, Hanna Andersson, American Greetings, and Stride Rite. I started with Munzee July 2016. My role was to help manage the Marketplace and assist Operations Manager at the time. Needless to say my role has changed and evolved in the almost 3 years that I have worked at Munzee.

Meet Munzee Munzday: Emma

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. To bring back this fun way to introduce team members, here is one of our latest recruits!

Update: Emma’s player name is violetblonde 🙂

Name and Title:

Emma Polini, Digital Content Creator

Where are you from?

I am from Westfield, NJ, a born and raised East Coast Jersey girl

Cowboys fans, we come in peace.

Tell us about yourself:

I am bilingual (English and poorly accented French). My favorite English word is catalyst, and my favorite French word is témoin. My favorite thing to do is create things out of blank spaces, and I enjoy all forms of writing as well as painting and drawing. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Austin College in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, emphasis creative writing, and minors in French and Art. I was fortunate enough to join several honors societies, including Phi Beta Kappa, and I spent several months after graduation in Cannes, France before serving as a Managing Editor of several newspapers for a year and then upgrading big time by joining MHQ. I have a tabby named Cat (after Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and a rescue dog named Henry (after Henry Miller), because I’m that kind of English nerd. My favorite book is Tropic of Capricorn, my favorite writers are Oscar Wilde and Haruki Murakami, and my favorite poem is The Waste Land. I consider myself cool because I can recite full passages from it, and that probably tells you a lot about me.

How long have your worked for Munzee?

I joined MHQ this past January, and I get to work next door to the bossman himself! Who knew a 9-5 could be so fun.

How did you find Munzee?

I have been living in McKinney since my summer in France and lucked upon this opportunity. MHQ was looking for a digital content creator to keep up with blog writing, social media, and client relations, and I was seeking to switch career paths.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?

I think it’s really important to build a sense of community so that you don’t feel isolated, and I love that Munzee draws together people from all walks of life who share similar interests. Opportunities such as Clan Wars allow players from all around the world to “fight” together on teams, and I love seeing the friendships formed and meeting players who travel all the way to to McKinney to visit us (aka Rob). It’s also exciting to read about player achievements and witness people celebrating each other.

What are some of your other hobbies?

I love to write, and I keep up with fiction and poetry writing, as well as journals. I also keep a weekly blog so that I can discuss social issues, because standing up for human rights is something that is crucial to me. I enjoy oil painting and mixed media art as well, and I also love to exercise. My favorite exercises are jogging and yoga, because I am too uncoordinated for formal sports, but surprisingly graceful on the yoga mat. I also love all animals, even tarantulas, which actually feel like bunny rabbits if you pet them. I especially enjoy rescuing animals and giving them to my friends/family!

Famous last words?

It’s all a dream. (Julia’s last words to Spike)

Meet Munzee Munday: Dylan Derryberry

Here at Munzee we’re constantly encouraging our players to meet and greet and build the personal relationships that make this game so great. Over the next few weeks we’ll be showcasing members of Team Munzee so our players can get to know us a bit better. So each Munday (see what we did there?) check in to see a new member of Team Munzee and you decide if you trust the game in our hands. To start off, here is one of our latest recruits, Dylan Derryberry.

Name and Title:
Dylan Derryberry, Master of Media, AKA glorified writer, AKA whatever Rob tells him to be.

Where are you from?
I grew up in McKinney, TX long before Munzee thought it was cool. I’m just that kind of trendsetter.

10410788_10202826176508197_6090280909929696587_nTell us about yourself:
I’m a 24 year old Master of the Universe. I’m father to two Welsh Corgis, who like me as much as most teenagers like their fathers, and I’m expecting my first non-fur child in August with my wife Wylie. No, she’s not named after the city, Texas players. After graduating from McKinney High School (Go Lions) in 2008, I took my skills a bit north to Colorado Mountain College (Go Eagles) in a small town outside of Aspen. While there I got my Associate of Arts, studied theatre, enrolled in Advanced Snowboarding 101 (real class) and River Orientation (also, real class) and blogged about the student experience. After two years in the snow and three vehicles lost to a Texas kid driving on ice, I transferred to the University of Kansas (Go Jayhawks) where I studied journalism. After many nights of studying, singing karaoke and slinging liquor part time, it was finally time to graduate and get a big kid job. Jury is still out on Munzee’s qualification as adulthood.

1556459_10201827722627474_37812141_oHow long have you worked for Munzee?
Although I may have just started a few weeks ago, Team Munzee has welcomed me into their home without hesitation. Their mistake.

How did you find Munzee?
After moving back to McKinney after college graduation I began writing for the local news publication Town Square Buzz. After two months of putting my journalism degree to good use, the publication had to shut down for financial reasons. Out of work, again, my editor-in-chief suggested I reach out to Munzee. The rest is (very short) history.

What do you enjoy most about Munzee?
Aside from the fun work environment, I’m regularly astounded at the dedication the players have for this game. Whether it’s players coming to visit Munzee Headquarters, the ever-growing game map or how many notifications I get on Facebook at 2 in the morning, the loyalty to Munzee amazes me.

307904_10151117493858235_993509291_nWhat are some of your other hobbies?
After witnessing true art in the form of Gordon Bombay and the District 5 Ducks, I became engrossed with ice hockey at a young age. I played throughout high school and even played a couple weeks in Germany my senior year. In Colorado I attempted to organize a team for the school, which was a blazing success of a failure, but fun all the same. In Kansas I played a year with the school’s club, but busted my shoulder in Chicago and decided it was probably time to call it quits. I still try to get on the ice as often as possible (which isn’t often enough) and cheer on the Dallas Stars in the regular NHL season. Come playoffs, it pays off to be a Chicago Blackhawks bandwagon fan. Other hobbies include watching movies, crafting and working around the house. I’m told I’m never satisfied, which I’m not totally against.

Famous last words?
Worrying is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.
