November 2022 GOTM Winners

This month we kicked things off with a new Zodiac Munzee line — the Celtic Zodiacs! We’ve always been fans of the intricate Celtic Knots as you may have noticed in our Shamrock badge line, so it was fun to delve a bit deeper with this new line of munzees. Other than that, Candy Crypt specials finished their run at the end of the week.

The next week, we made some much-requested reductions in proximity requirements to certain Places munzees. A few days later, we released our lyrical Jukebox specials, with the first 9 records to collect! As promised, we also had a ZEE-Dayz / Double Points Weekend on Greeting Cards to celebrate humbird7!

Just last week, we released more information on the Rob AstZee skin, asked for your ideas on new Jukebox Records to release in December, dropped the Merry Miser Mailbox, the 2nd set of Jukebox Records, Operation: Turkey Trample, and brought back Flat DHS Scatters.

We are now happy to announce the winners of the November Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early December, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

November GOTM

This month, we couldn’t resist letting the Jukebox specials guide us in our choices. Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award The Yellow Submarine garden, designed by Waves117, and the John – the Fab 4 / 1 TÜ garden, designed by geckofreund, as our winning November GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

The Yellow Submarine by Waves117 in Sheringham, Norfolk, England

The use of various Egyptian Zodiacs to create the periscope adds dimension and is a clever way to achieve a similar yellow color to the main body.

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

With Sheringham being a seaside town and already having a few Seaside related munzee gardens, it seems only appropriate to continue the trend………….. and so the Yellow Submarine was created.

Since The Zeetles just put out their newest hit, Evo Submarine, we just HAD to choose this garden as one of the winners this month!

Kudos to Waves117 for creating such a timely garden! You may recall Waves117 also designed two other past GOTM winners, which were also seaside-themed as she wrote: Horatio the Hermit Crab, and Sandcastle in Sheringham Norfolk UK. Her gardens have definitely made Sheringham a coastal wonderland!

John – the Fab 4 / 1 TÜ by geckofreund in Tübingen, Germany

The garden is composed of Citrines and Onyxes, which definitely was a smart choice as the centerpiece for an October event — they awarded Pumpkoins! WE also love the Sir Prize Wheels sprinkled throughout as they also resemble the overall design.

Here’s a note from the player who nominated this garden:

John was the first of the Fab4 Gardens in Tübingen. Meanwhile, Ringo, Paul & George have also been published. In October 2022, the Beatles will be serenading us at the event.

This garden was nominated all the way back in March, and it definitely caught our eyes as it is stylish in its minimalism, and also manages to be a recognizable representation of John Lennon. We’re sure that the ?Wilder Süden Part 10 – Yesterday event which featured this garden was a smash hit! We also can’t wait to see the other 3 gardens once they’ve been completed — it’ll be like the Mount Rushmore of the Munzee Map!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

  1. Garden must feature non-licensed character designs.
  2. The garden must feature a Garden Places Pin.
  3. The garden must be built using a publicly available spreadsheet which we will ask to be locked after being 100% deployed.
  4. We’re asking for ongoing nominations and we will release the winners throughout the year.

Based on your feedback, we’ve created a Google Form where you can submit GOTM nominations — here’s the link: https://forms.gle/SjUQeRxdi5FT81pCA

We’ll still check the iloveyou@munzee.com inbox for stragglers, but please try to send your submissions to this new Google Form instead. Keep in mind that we take all former nominations into consideration for upcoming months. Just be sure your garden follows the nomination rules in order to be considered eligible!

If you need help deploying in a Virtual Garden, you can check out this step-by-step tutorial that will making deploying in a garden easy no matter how long you’ve been playing. To fill in the gardens, make sure to stock up on Virtuals and Color Credits from the Freeze Tag Online Store.

October 2022 GOTM Winners

We began October finishing the last 2 days of our Around ZEE World Mailbox. In the middle of the week, we started our first ZEE-Dayz of the month, this time featuring Flat Friends and Flat Objects! Then on Friday we kicked off the first of our Halloween-themed releases, the Candy Crypt MOBs and Pumpkoins! On Saturday, Mari, Mick, and Tamara attended the Southern California October Munzee Monthly Event, where they got to comfortably catch up with players and take advantage of the double points period!

The next week was Rob’s turn to attend events — he was able to attend all 6 of the SC Munzee Jubilee 2022 events, even posting a quick video to check in! As promised, we had our second ZEE-Dayz during this time, featuring Greeting Cards since they are popular choices to deploy at events. We also released some new Halloween cards, and brought back some old designs from last year. The next day, we released the Count Calcula Mech, available for Pumpkoins, and more artifacts for the Candy Crypt MOBs!

This past week, we welcomed our new Queen Munzee, humbird7, and celebrated by deploying 100 Hummingbird tPOBs on her account! We also put out info on a Christmas Party Add-On for December Events, and had a successful app update featuring potential GPS fixes and In-App Map Links. Just yesterday, we went back into Halloween mode with NEW Myth SkeleSkins.

We are now happy to announce the winners of the October Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early November, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

October GOTM

This month, as you’ve probably guessed, we’ve chosen gardens that bring the spirit of Halloween to the map! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Halloween in Ottawa garden, designed by Jeffeth, and the Hungry Bat ? Terry ? garden, designed by Rikitan, as our winning October GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Halloween in Ottawa by Jeffeth in Ottawa, ON, Canada

We love the scene Jeffeth designed to fit within his signature window frame! A Jack-o’-lantern and ghost lit from behind by an eerie full moon!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

I am excited for Fall, and for Halloween next month! I am also excited to see what Munzee has planned! This is my final window in my seasonal set here in Ottawa..spoooooky lol

We hope Jeffeth has been enjoying the Halloween-themed releases we mentioned earlier in this post, and that he’s looking forward to what we have planned for the rest of the month! If the design of this garden looks familiar, we previously chose his Christmas in Ottawa garden as one of last December’s GOTM! We thought it made the perfect partner to the other winner, as you’ll see below:

Hungry Bat ? Terry ? by Rikitan in Bratislava, Slovakia

Rikitan’s recommendation of placing Void Mysteries with Virtual Colors in a garden to catch the scatters is a great strategy that many garden designers employ. What other types do you like pairing with Virtual Colors?

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

I wanted to create space (pun intended) for new species of virtual munzees – Void mysteries. They go well together with colored virtuals – for catching the scatters. Regarding design – combination of cute & dark always works well, so I went for a bat. For extra fun & story factor, I combine it with low battery and named whole thing “Hungry Bat Terry / Hungry battery”. You know, when you play Munzee out in winter season, your cell phone battery is exhausted very quickly!

We loved the punny name and design that Rikitan came up with! It’s simple but effective, fitting in perfectly with the Halloween theme but also making the garden unique and relatable — our devices do have to work harder when the weather is extremely cold!

September 2022 GOTM Winners

It feels like our Around ZEE World journey so far has gone by so fast! We started the month with a simple ZEE-Dayz that awarded double capture points on Places, Historical Locations, and Iconic Locations. On the weekend, the first Around ZEE World Bash events took place, with Mari and Tamara making an appearance at the So Cal Sept Event!

The next week, we announced the winners of the Soap Box Derby, and then kicked off our next set of specials — this time, we tried something new and had them scatter a trail of munzees to follow, so you could have your own challenge to travel Around ZEE World! Other items of note: we kicked off our Discord launch with 7 days of giveaways, the Around ZEE World Mailbox received its first deliveries, and Rob and Lou made an appearance at the Westcliff September 2022 event.

The week after that, we posted a call for more volunteer translators, checked in on Dale & Barb’s road trip, and hosted a special Worldwide Sale, which included a NEW Pouch Creature and also NEW Greeting Cards suggested by you! On the weekend, Dylan appeared with special guest Matt at the Touchdown in KC event — although Matt is technically not part of the team anymore, it still felt right to create a Traveling Team Badge for him. After all, he has been one of the faces of Munzee for years, and clearly still enjoys meeting up with players!

This week, we’ve just released the latest Secret ZeeOp — but keep an eye out for more Around ZEE World content before the month is out!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the September Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early October, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

September GOTM

This month, we’ve chosen gardens that highlight royalty Around ZEE World! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award The Queen’s Crown garden, designed by Spice, and the Zamek Piastów garden, designed by GRZYBACZE, as our winning September GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

The Queen’s Crown by Spice in Weston-super-Mare, United Kingdom

This garden is certainly fit for a queen with all of the Virtual Jewels it’s composed of!

The nominator pointed out that this garden was dedicated to nuttynan, who is certainly a queenly presence in the Munzee community!

On a sadder note, we also couldn’t help but be reminded of the recent loss of Queen Elizabeth II, so this garden seemed like a timely choice for a GOTM winner.

Zamek Piastów by GRZYBACZE in Legnica, Lower Silesia voivodeship, Poland

This garden shows a castle that is fortified with many Crossbows and Catapults! We would guess that the real Zamek Piastów would have been fortified in a similar manner during Medieval times.

Here’s a note from the player who nominated this garden:

In my city (Legnica), there is a castle called “Zamek Piastów,” which means “Piast Castle.” It is one of the oldest castles in Poland.

For those unfamiliar with the word “Piast,” according to Merriam-Webster.com the word refers to “a member of the first dynasty of Polish rulers that ended with the death of Casimir III in 1370.” Going by the nominator’s words, this definition seems accurate, as it makes sense for one of the oldest castles in Poland to have been built during the 1st dynasty. If we ever get the chance to travel to Poland in the future, this is definitely one historical landmark we’d love to visit!

August 2022 GOTM Winners

Phew, is it that time of the month already? It feels like our Player AppreZEEation Month just started!

We began the month with our Melon flashMOB! Later in the week we had our Drink and Disc Golf ZEE-Dayz which gave you another chance at the special Flat Disc Golf Basket scatter badges, along with double points! At the end of the week, we asked you what you’d like to see for Player AppreZEEation month, which gave us some good projects to work on!

The next week  we released our ongoing Soap Box Derby specials, which we hope everyone is enjoying! The day after that, we had our Reduced Cog Cost ZEE-Dayz, which allowed players to build Mechz at half the cost in the Redeem Store.

Just last week, we kicked off our second annual RUM ZEE-Dayz, to share the love with our Authorized Resellers! A few days later, we had major outages with app which we’re sure you noticed — our team worked tirelessly to figure out what the issue was (turned out to be related to AWS) and get it resolved. In the meantime, Rob and Lou bravely pushed through with the Player AppreZEEation Award Ceremony to give players something to enjoy while the app was down. Lastly, we released some new Limited Edition Greeting Cards perfect for teachers and students heading back to school!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the August Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early September, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

August GOTM

In keeping with our theme of Player AppreZEEation, we’ve chosen gardens that kept the party going! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Downham Cheshire Cat garden, designed by poshrule, and the Sprinkle Cupcake Garden, designed by CoalCracker7, as our winning August GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Downham Cheshire Cat by poshrule in Downham Market, Norfolk, United Kingdom

We also like the detail of Electric Mysteries for the cat’s glowing eyes!

Here’s a note from the player who nominated this garden:

The cat’s smile is on the flat layer, and the face on the main virtual layer, so in the true spirit of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, if one turns off the virtual layer, you are just left with the cat’s enduring smile……..! Brilliant!

As the nominator pointed out, this choice of munzee types is quite clever and so fitting for the character! We used the mobile app to take another screenshot here, so you can see what it looks like with just the Flats:

Sprinkle Cupcake by CoalCracker7 in Plant City, FL

We love the contrast created by the warm berry tones of the cupcake against the bright blue and green cupcake liner!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

We are hosting an event on 5 February, Sugar and Sweet, along with the Gumball Machine event just a week before Valentine’s Day. The theme for the Sugar and Sweet is a cupcake, so we did a sprinkle cupcake with white and pink frosting and jewel sprinkles along with a cherry on top!

CoalCracker7 does it again! Last month we chose her popular Corgi garden, and until writing this blog did not realize it’s been back-to-back wins! Kudos to her and her fellow hosts for coming up with fun themes for their events, and of course to CoalCracker7 for her wonderful garden designs that match those themes! We’re sure this event was a sweet success!

July 23, 2022

July 2022 GOTM Winners

The month began with the first day of special deliveries from the UnBirthday Mailbox! As you know, Wonder11and residents come and go as they please, so they’ve arrived at different points throughout the month: the first week saw the March Hare Garden Flamingo, the CH3SHiRE Cat Mech, and the R053 Mech.

The second week saw the SUN Mech and the Wonder11and Playing Cards.

The third week saw the Painted R053 Mech and the C4T3RP1LL4R Mech.

The past week saw the Mad Hatter Garden Gnome, the White Rabbit Yeti, the King and Queen of Hearts, and the Jabberwock!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the July Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early August, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

July GOTM

This month, we’ve chosen gardens that were the centerpieces of some festive Munzee Events! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the XI birthday Mad Hatter garden, designed by geomatrix, and the Corgi Garden, designed by CoalCracker7, as our winning July GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

XI birthday Mad Hatter by geomatrix in Richfield, MN

There is also a XI Flamingo Garden with a similar design! However, as we already featured Flamingo Gardens in January, this garden was the obvious choice!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

This garden was created for our birthday event 2. The Mad Hatter was taken from the UnBirthday Event Attendee Badge and then the garden inspired our event badge and icons.

The team was instantly drawn to this garden as it fits the theme of this month so perfectly! Don’t confuse it with a regular old Leprechaun — as the designer noted, it’s actually from the UnBirthday Event Attendee Badge, which features Rob as the Mad Hatter! Below you can see how their event badge and icons turned out:

Corgi Garden by CoalCracker7 in Lakeland, FL

If the garden is this cute, how much cuter is CoalCracker7’s corgi, Socks? We’d love to see a photo!

Here are some of the notes from the players who nominated this garden:

The Garden was created to coincide with the National Corgi Day event we held on 4 June 2022 in Lakeland. It was appropriate, as 4 June was International Corgi Day and CoalCracker7‘s Birthday. She had a Corgi named Socks that the Garden resembles. In addition, everyone that scanned the event badge was awarded a free Flat Murray. The event was also featured on the Munzee Calendar Page and it was also Flat Murray Scatter Weekend!

This garden was created for an event on International Corgi Day. CC7 worked hard to get this filled quickly for the event she had on Corgi Day. She loves Munzee and the Munzee Community and works tirelessly to keep it interesting for the people around her.

You know we love animals here at MHQ, so this cute Corgi garden was a shoo-in to win! We were also touched to read all the heartwarming notes from the nominators — it sounds like they had a great time at the event, and it’s clear that CoalCracker7 is much loved by her fellow players.

June 22, 2022

June 2022 GOTM Winners

This month we filled the first few weeks with Flat Scatters! Flat Murray was anxious to share his dog toys during the week of the Platinum Jubilee, and we had a rerun of the Flat DHS tapes, but this time with new badges to earn!

We also started releasing things in preparation for our UnBirthday Celebration! Just last week, special UnBirthday Event Add-Ons were made available to those who’ve purchased a July Event Package. We also put together the UnBirthday Mailbox with some fun Wonder11and-themed capture messages for you to see in the days leading up to July. And earlier this week, we revealed NEW FL0W3R Mechz, which are much more polite than the flowers Alice encountered — but also much more lethal!

Lastly, we made some additions to the Education Set Evolutions and released new Hot Dogz specials for everyone to cap — but there’s still more to come for June! After all, we’ve got a little bit more than a week left!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the June Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early July, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

June GOTM

This month is for the birds again — but this time, with a tropical twist! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Papagei Crumstadt garden, designed by stineB, and the Pirate Pete’s Parrot garden, designed by prmarks1391, as our winning June GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Papagei Crumstadt by stineB in Crumstadt, Riedstadt, Germany

With a body composed entirely of colorful Evolutions resting on a branch of Catapults, this bird is not only beautiful but useful!

Here’s a note from one of the players who nominated this garden:

StineB loves to design virtual gardens, especially with cute animals and colourful virtuals.
I think the garden would deserve the title “GOTM” 🙂

We definitely agree with this player! While they brought it to our attention all the way back in May 2020, and it was certainly an eye-catcher with the unique combination of colorful munzee types, we were waiting for the perfect time for it to shine in the spotlight. As summer officially started yesterday at MHQ, we still wanted to feature some gardens with a beach-y feel, and this garden fit the bill (pun intended) perfectly!

Pirate Pete’s Parrot by prmarks1391 in Narre Warren, Victoria, Australia

The darker colors of Virtual RUMs and Night Vision Goggles are not the first things you think of when choosing colors for a parrot, but this garden managed to make it work!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

The inspiration behind the design was the Pirate Nomad that lands on RUMs. A parrot is usually associated with a pirate in many movies and stories, and my family owns a ringneck parrot. It also allows locals to capture some Virtual Reseller Unique Munzees aka Virtual RUMs. Seeing as we are enduring regular lockdowns it has been a life saver to have these icons nearby whilst following the restrictions of our state government. Without the garden some of the limited time badges would not have been possible.

Like people, parrots come in all shapes and sizes! While the preceding garden depicts the quintessential parrot, we like that this garden represents the small, cute ones that make perfect pets! In addition, the note from the garden designer shows the thoughtfulness and teamwork present in the Munzee community to help others earn the limited-time badges we released during our RUM ZEE-Dayz!

May 25, 2022

May 2022 GOTM Winners

This month we’ve been taking things a bit slower, but that doesn’t mean we left you to your own devices! We brought the tradition of May the Fourth Munzee Events to everyone with a very special ZEE-Dayz, which included ARF2D2 and ZEE-3PO specials to capture, a NEW Scrap Star Temporary Destination, double points on Mechz, and a sale!

The next week we celebrated the ONLY Flat Day the 13th this year with another ZEE-Dayz! This time, Unlucky Object specials started bouncing around the map (and still are!) and there were double points on Flats and other related types. We also introduced some new hidden badges for you to earn!

Just last week, we released a NEW Secret ZeeOp for you to participate in, which will reward you with the R3X-0-Skeleton Mech once you complete it. Other than that, it’s been fairly quiet here at MHQ the past few days… but maybe that means we’re gearing up for some big surprises!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the May Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early June, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

May GOTM

It seems we’ll all need to take a vacation to England’s beaches! They’ve got some beautiful gardens that we’d love to visit and cap! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Horatio the Hermit Crab garden, designed by Waves117 and FlamingoFlurrier, and the Beach Umbrella garden, designed by BonnieB1, as our winning May GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Horatio the Hermit Crab by Waves117 and FlamingoFlurrier in Cromer, Norfolk, England, UK

What a cute character dreamed up by Waves117! Look out Rover, you’ve got some competition!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

This Garden is situated in the centre of Cromer, Norfolk, England, UK and is the centrepiece of my next Munzee event in October. The inspiration for this Garden came from

1) Cromer being famous for its freshly caught delicacy of crabs and

2) Norfolk’s most famous son Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson – born in Norfolk.

So meet Horatio the Hermit Crab. With over 500 pins it initially felt a bit of a challenge to fill but the munzee community reserved spots quickly and it was fully reserved within 4 days.

This adorable crab definitely caught our eye earlier in the year, but we wanted to save it for a warmer month. We are especially impressed with the colors used for its shell — who knew Void Mysteries and Peas Evos would look so good together, and create a pearlescent appearance?!

If you’re interested in learning more about Waves117’s event, check out this link: https://calendar.munzee.com/event1645046707/

Beach Umbrella by BonnieB1 in Westbourne, Bournemouth, England, UK

Angling the garden to make the bottom edge of the umbrella line up with the beach must have made the design process trickier than it looks!

Here’s a note from the player who nominated this garden:

Situated on the cliffs above the fantastic beaches of Bournemouth, and utilises a number of different Munzees cleverly to make a stunning effect.

The strong lines of this garden make it instantly recognizable, even when zoomed out quite far. The combination of Electric Mysteries, Virtual Colors, Citrines, Carrot Evos, Flat Flashlights, Submarine Evos, and Flat Disc Golf Baskets capture the colors of summer so well!

ZeeOps and Clan Wars players will also appreciate the use of Night Vision Goggles, Crossbows, and Catapults for the outlines.

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

Rules for GOTM nominations:

April 2022 GOTM Winners

This month was one for fans of furry and feathered friends. We kicked things off with a wild and wacky Flamingo-filled April Fool’s Day celebration! The next week, we stretched the meaning of the word “pet” with new Pet Rock specials to collect. A cute new Duck Evolution also made its debut, as it’s been a while since the last one (the Bee) was released.

The week after that, we released Mari’s Flat Object, the Flat Cats — we didn’t want Flat Murray to be lonely as the only Flat Pet! We also had a ZEE-Dayz for QRew and ZeeQRew members (not very animal-themed, but didn’t want to leave it out!).

Lastly, earlier this week, we put out some new specials to chase — the Animal QRackers. But we aren’t done with all the animal-themed fun we’ve planned for the month — keep an eye out for more releases as we head into May!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the April Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early May, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

April GOTM

With the release of the Flat Cats, we couldn’t resist choosing the winners below! They’re just the right colors too — one black and one orange! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Egyptian Cat garden, designed by BonnieB1 for denali0407, and the Aphrodite’s Cat garden, designed by purplecourgette, as our winning April GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Egyptian Cat by BonnieB1 for denali0407 in Weatherford, TX

This cat looks quite regal with its decorative jewel-studded collar!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

A unique design to highlight the year of Egyptian Zodiacs and includes all 12 zodiacs. Finished early in December 2021 when the last Zodiac was released in Munzpaks! Adapted specifically for the town of Weatherford, Texas for a longtime player and my Munzee mentor and friend denali0407! Now there are two jewels in Weatherford!

This striking design definitely caught our eye last year — we were just waiting for the perfect occasion to put it into the spotlight! It’s a must-visit for fans of the Egyptian Zodiacs, and if you’re missing any badges you’ll be sure to fill in any gaps as you cap!

Aphrodite’s Cat by purplecourgette in Erimi, Cyprus

This cat’s fur is a unique patchwork of Clan Weapons, Jewels, Electric Mysteries, and of course, Virtual Colors. Night Vision Goggles were used for the darker details!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

This garden was set-up for a player based in Cyprus. There are more cats in Cyprus than human beings! They are all over the place and it is attributed to the fact that domestication of cats first started, in all probability, in Cyprus. The Goddess Aphrodite was born in Cyprus… maybe she had a cat!? [;)]

We really appreciate purplecourgette’s note, as it was quite intriguing! First, because we don’t often hear of players based in Cyprus — definitely curious to find out more about the map there, and if there are ways we can help grow the community — and second, the fun facts about cats and Aphrodite! We definitely think she would enjoy the company of cats!

All players who deployed in the respective winning gardens will receive the following special badges:

March 2022 GOTM Winners

As we end the first quarter of the year, things are definitely starting to pick up! We started off the month bringing back the limited-time credit program — this month’s incarnation, as you know, is called Sham Rocks! We then kicked off our first ZEE-Dayz of the month for all players, featuring the humble Shamrock Munzee and also the return of St. Patrick’s Day Greeting Cards.

The next week, we launched the cute and colorful Cereal Specials, a pack of St. Patrick’s Day-themed skins, and a NEW Mech purchasable with Sham Rocks!

Just last week, we launched the newest Secret ZeeOps, which, for the first time, includes TWO Mechz as rewards! We also tried out a second ZEE-Dayz, this time specifically for March MunzPak owners, along with the NEW tPOB Pub and Recyclops skin. Most importantly, we announced a new survey we’d like everyone to participate in!

We are now happy to announce the winners of the March Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early April, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

March GOTM

Recently we’ve been receiving a lot of nominations for summer-y gardens — at first, this puzzled us, as we are currently experiencing the end of winter here in the states. After realizing where these gardens were located, it made perfect sense — it’s summer on the other side of the world! Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Nessie in Grenaa garden, designed by MetteS for Henning49, and the Palmuranta garden, designed by tartu61 and enkku, as our winning March GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Nessie in Grenaa by MetteS for Henning49 in Grenaa, Denmark

Indeed, as the nominator mentioned, you can see that this garden is along a river. It covers 3 bus stops!

Here’s a note from the player who nominated this garden:

This beautiful garden is perfect for the city of Grenaa. It is by the sea, and this sea monster is making its way up the stream from the sea to the main city.

We thought this garden was a fun twist on the typical St. Patrick’s day theme! The Loch Ness Monster hails from Scotland, but there’s no denying its similarities with the Irish Oillipheist, which we featured earlier this month as our latest skin for the Hydra!

Oillipheist Hydra

Palmuranta by tartu61 and enkku in Hyvinkää, Finland

Non-Finnish Munzee players: can you guess what “palmuranta” means? If you guessed “palm beach”, then you are correct! If you were curious, “ranta” on its own is the word for “beach”.

This garden was created to celebrate the first Munzee event in Hyvinkää, Finland! The event is called Palmurannan alla and will take place on April 9th — so if you’d like to show your support, feel free to deploy any Greeting Cards or other Virtual Munzees nearby before then!

The garden shares its design with the event badge and icons, as you can see below:

February 2022 GOTM Winners

Even though February is only shorter than other months by 2 or 3 days, it feels like we’ve come to the final stretch of the month so quickly!

We kicked off the month with the release of the V-Mailboxes. As the National Hat Day specials finished their run, we launched the NEW Pizza My Heart specials a few days after. The next day brought a new set of mini-Mechz, the X & O Bots. The week after that, the V-Mailbox finally began its daily deliveries on Valentine’s Day. Reseller Flamingos made their debut the next day, followed by the first new Flat Object of the year, Flat Murray, the Friday after.

We are now happy to announce the winners of the February Gardens of the Month (GOTM)! The badges will be awarded by early March, but we couldn’t wait to share the winners we’ve chosen!

Feburary GOTM

Remember that all winning GOTM organizers and all players who deployed in the winning gardens will be awarded special badges for their contribution to growing the map. This month we’re happy to award the Purple Heart Park garden, designed by Spanol, and the Munzee Love garden, designed by Jeffeth, as our winning February GOTM! The gardens appear as follows:

Purple Heart Park by Spanol in Tucson, AZ

While this garden is fairly small, we love that each diamond shape within the heart still has dimension, thanks to the different shades of Purple Virtual Colors and Amethysts. A simple but special garden!

Here’s a note from the player who designed this garden:

Located on the Southeast corner of Tucson, Arizona, the park is dedicated to the Purple Heart military decoration, awarded to men and women killed or injured during combat while members of the Armed Services. The Park also includes a dog area named after Ivan, a Tucson police dog lost in the line of duty.

In addition to this note, the spreadsheet for the garden includes a photo of a monument in the park that inspired the design. The monument consists of a brick wall with beautiful purple glass squares built into it, in the shape of a heart. We loved the story behind this garden and how it resembles the real-life landmark located there, so it safely secured a spot as one of the winners for this month!

Munzee Love by Jeffeth in Ottawa, ON, Canada

It’s hard for us to resist Flat-themed gardens because they represent us in a way — not to mention how cute and timely the design is!

Here are some notes from the players who nominated this garden:

I love the simplicity and meaning of this garden, of course we all love Munzee, but this garden seems to celebrate the love for Flat Rob and Flat Lou, our King and Queen of Munzee.

This is the cutest Valentine’s garden that I’ve seen! It’s especially sweet because we all know Rob had the key to Lou’s heart! 🙂
