Nothing Will Escape Your Notice with These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Now that it’s officially Fall around MHQ, are you getting enough fresh air? While the temperatures are probably more comfortable, there are less days off to enjoy. We hope you get to spend some time outside in your backyard or a nearby park to get your dose of Vitamin D!

If you have the good fortune to live near a forest, take a deep breath and get some extra oxygen for the rest of us! It would also be great to spot some real-world Camp Critters in the wild, which these lemony lenses are made for! They were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Maybe a road trip to some secluded woods is in order — after you get your car battery replaced, that is!

Similar to July’s Summer Shades, these Hunting Glasses have a distinct lens color that isn’t just for show. According to biggamelogic.com, yellow lenses “block haze and blue light since they are on the opposite end of the color spectrum,” increasing contrast and making it easier to spot other creatures in your surroundings. Definitely useful if you want to spot other humans as well, to ensure that you are socially distanced! If you read on, you’ll notice that the Summer Shades would also make great Hunting Glasses depending on your prey — it makes sense, since we learned that the polarized lenses are the eyewear of choice for fishermen!

You’ll be able to capture the 20/20 Vision specials on other players’ munzees as well as your own for the remainder of the year! As a reminder, all 20/20 Vision specials will leave the map on 12/31/2020 at 23:59 MHQ. These 20/20 Vision Munzees Are a Reminder of Our Hope for a Kinder World

Happy International Day of Peace!

World peace may seem like a cliché thing to wish for — it is on the lips of practically every beauty pageant contestant and equally at home on the page of many a luminary’s interview. But in today’s world, a world in which we have not only a global pandemic to contend with, but violent conflicts, we can’t deny that the world would be a much better place if we had it. To that end, we wanted to highlight this important day with these statement shades, which were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. What are some simple steps we can take towards world peace?

Today we celebrate the International Day of Peace, which was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. This year’s theme is “Shaping Peace Together.” To survive this time of hardship, we should work together instead of letting fear divide us. In the UN’s words:

Celebrate the day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the pandemic. Stand together with the UN against attempts to use the virus to promote discrimination or hatred. Join us so that we can shape peace together.

You’ll Be Seeing Green With These 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Need to escape the house to shake off a bad case of cabin fever? While our options for travel are limited at the moment, we can at least take a mental vacation by reading a good book! Why not revisit some of your favorite children’s books, like The Wizard of Oz? You may find that they’re still just as magical, even if you’re all grown up, and that your more mature self will give a fresh take on a book you thought you already knew. These essential eyeglasses were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. If you don’t enjoy wearing glasses non-stop, you may want to keep your visit to the city short!

Even though Emerald City owes a lot to these special glasses, we’re sure it was an equally wonderful sight without them. The glasses didn’t fake the shine, which came from countless gems used to decorate the city, despite not all of them being emeralds. Author L. Frank Baum reportedly based Emerald City on the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, a fair held in Chicago to celebrate Christopher Columbus’s arrival. The beautiful buildings, made dazzling with lights, reflective glass, and other trimmings, were also referred to as the “White City.” Would you want to visit Emerald City? Lovesick? It’s Time For Another Segment of Ask Aphrodite!

In times like these, we all need a friend who’s looking out for us. And if that friend happens to be an expert in matters of the heart, all the better! Tune in to 461.5 to hear the soothing, velvety voice of our newest Modern Myth, broadcasting straight from WBHQ-FM!

Aphrodite will be available for sale starting at 12:00 MHQ time today until 12:00 MHQ time on Sept 1!

Aphrodite Details

The Aphrodite Modern Myth will be available for purchase HERE! She will be spotted bouncing around to Greenies, Air Mysteries, Pink Colored Virtuals*, Pink Diamonds, Treehouses, and Skylands every 12 hours or when capped.

Each Aphrodite is numbered and will be owned by a Munzee player. You can pick this Myth up for $20! The sale is open to anyone regardless of other Mythological ownership. Only ONE (1) Aphrodite is allowed per account.

In keeping with the Modern Myth line, when she is captured 3 new munzees will also be scattered nearby — these will either be Glasses or Shell-Phones!

These will scatter like feathers so there are no CapOn points but they are worth 50 points for capture!

Aphrodite is able to be upgraded via a Bouncer Upgrade Credit, which gives the ability to be “nudged” or be renamed. The upgrade credit will give you the ability to “nudge” your Aphrodite to a new munzee up to three times a day, following the MHQ 24-hour day, after it has been on its host munzee for at least three hours. This nudging ability is only available for the owner via the munzee’s webpage and is not available in the app.

Your munzee will still retain its unique number, but feel free to get creative when it comes to renaming your Aphrodite! Just be sure to follow the Player Code of Conduct, and remember Munzee maintains a family-friendly environment.

If you’re hoping to cap one of these brand new Modern Myths, then you’re in luck! Aphrodite will be attracted to Munzee Magnets and Virtual Munzee Magnets. You can access Aphrodite by turning on your “Only Expiring Specials” and “Only Mythological” filters.

Thank Goodness These 20/20 Vision Munzees Aren’t Mirrored!

Glasses are great tools for millions, if not billions of people around the world — a simple solution to a big problem, and often the most appealing option for vision correction because of it! Unfortunately, despite improvements in their construction and materials, they are still quite fragile. Tape can temporarily patch up a snapped bridge, but there’s not much you can do for shattered lenses. These sorry shades were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Have you ever broken a pair of glasses?

Don’t you wish you had a friend like Hermione to cast Oculus Reparo? If it’s been a while since you’ve read the Harry Potter series, you may be surprised to learn that that scene is not part of the book canon! However, the spell was not totally made up by the scriptwriters — Arthur Weasley does cast it in the second book. Regardless, we think it was a great change as it introduced Hermione’s character so effectively in the movie! Excuse us while we take this opportunity to reread the entire book series, followed by marathoning the entire movie series, for the 20th time to refresh our memories. You’re Not Seeing Double — We’ve Got A New Badge Line For 20/20 Vision Munzees!

Ever since we released the 20/20 Vision Munzees at the start of this year, we’ve been promising a line of overall capture badges! We’re happy to announce that (1) no, we haven’t forgotten that promise and (2) they are finally a part of the game!

There are 6 capture badges to earn with art depicting all the different pairs of glasses you’ve seen before — and maybe some you haven’t! As mentioned above, these badges are for overall 20/20 Vision Munzee captures — not unique captures — so if you weren’t already motivated to capture the rare game pieces, we bet you are now! We won’t spoil all of the badges, but you can check out the first badge in the line below:

While 2020 is shaping up to be perhaps one of the worst years in recent history, that doesn’t mean life has to be all gray and boring! Especially if you have something to celebrate, like our 9th Birthday! We just have to work with what we’ve got and get a little creative — and sometimes that requires a little transformation. With its whimsical shape and candy colors, the fourteenth 20/20 Vision Munzee will definitely get you into the mood for some cake and ice cream! These flashy frames were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Rose-colored glasses are overrated — holographic ones are much more fun!

For those of you living in the US — did you get to watch any fireworks on the 4th of July? If fireworks are allowed in your city, are people still setting off fireworks in the middle of the night even though it’s well past everyone’s bedtime (not to mention that it’s also well past the 4th of July at this point)? For the rest of the world — other than New Year’s Day, are there other holidays where fireworks are traditionally set off? Do you look forward to firework shows or do they bother you? Regardless of your own opinions of fireworks, if you have any furry friends, make sure to shelter them inside your home if you know fireworks will be set off nearby! The noise can be quite shocking and stressful for them.

Sure, the beach is beautiful and all, but there’s so much preparation required before you go. One thing you must always do is put on sunscreen 30 minutes before you go outside, and reapply every 2 hours after. Since you can’t apply sunscreen to your eyes, our thirteenth 20/20 Vision Munzee has you covered! These travel-friendly shades were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. These shades boast polarized lenses — what does this mean other than the distinct dark tint when compared with regular lenses? According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, polarized lenses only allow rays of light that approach your eyes vertically to pass through, resulting in a darker image but markedly less glare. It is the lens of choice for fishermen, who spend a lot of time out in the sun! However, this same characteristic makes it difficult to see things displayed on LCD screens — so don’t wear these while driving unless you’ve confirmed that your car doesn’t employ LCD technology!

While we’ve had a lot of wacky and unique eye wear options featured over the past few months, maybe they just aren’t your taste. The twelfth 20/20 Vision Munzee is bound to be appealing to a wide range of people due to their classic shape, which looks good on just about everyone! No wonder it’s the go-to choice for off-duty models and movie stars. These fetching frames were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Do you own a pair of these glasses? If not, would you consider them?

If you’re not a fan of how aviators look on you, first — make sure that they fit right. The front part of the glasses should be around the width of your head. When wearing the glasses, the arms should be bent at a 90 degree angle or thereabouts — not much more (they might snap off!) or much less (the glasses will slip and fall!). If fit isn’t the issue, maybe lens shape is the culprit. Try going rounder or squarer depending on your face shape and preference. Round lenses tend to look better on people with squarer faces and vice-versa, as it visually balances your face instead of making it seem “too” round or square. Of course, this is just a guideline — maybe you like how you look with a certain lens shape, regardless of your face shape — you do you!

These days, you might be doing a lot of online window shopping, especially if you’ve had the time to tidy up your house recently, and have things in bags ready to donate! Perhaps your attentions have been caught by something sparkly and shiny, awakening the hoarder dragon within you? Our eleventh 20/20 Vision Munzee will give you the ability to see the smallest imperfections! These precise jewel-appraising tools were deployed this afternoon at 15:00 MHQ. Have you ever seen one of these being used?

Only six Jeweler Loupes will be deployed, and they will bounce to Greenies every 12 hours or when captured. These will be attracted to Physical Magnets though so be sure to stock up!

Why are these tools called “loupes”? Those who’ve studied the French language at a basic level might remember the word “loup,” which means “wolf” in English — but those words are not connected at all. However, “loupe” is French in origin! If you know a bit more French, you know that the French word “loupe” means “magnifying glass” in English, which makes much more sense. The word originally meant something closer to “imperfect gem,” but as you can see, its usage has evolved to refer to the item used to examine such objects.
