Munzee’s Official Birthday Bash is Coming Up! (Plus New Tags!)

Will you be joining us in California for Munzee’s Official Birthday Bash on Saturday, July 20? The #8zees will be in full swing as Matt, Dylan, Craig, Mick, Mari, Tamara, and Emma join players in turning back time for Munzee’s 8th birthday celebration in sunny Tustin, CA! You will be able to earn some awesome new badges and icons, including the two pictured below:

You can RSVP to the event now to join members of the Freeze Tag Team on July 20 at 10:00 in Citrus Ranch Park for an unforgettable trip down memory lane. Not sure what to wear? As you recall, each event host has been awarding players with a special badge for best 8zees (80s) attire. And though staff members won’t be vying for this badge, they will be dressing up!

Members of staff will be taking a little “trip to the movies,” as some Freeze Tag teammates will be dressing up as some of their favorite 80s movie characters. Whether you’re more of a Ferris Bueller or an Indiana Jones, we know you want to join in on the 8zees fun! Remember that players in attendance will be able to earn exclusive Traveling Team badges when they meet team members!

New Tags

To get you in the 8zees mood, we will be selling a brand new Personal Tag in the Freeze Tag Online Store starting today at 15:00 MHQ time. Inspired by National Video Game Day this past Monday (and our recent Joystick Munzee artwork!), this retro Personal Tag will get you right in that 8zees spirit. This tag is also available for the sale price of $8.88 in celebration of our 8th birthday!

Let’s turn back time and make some new Munzee memories!

Join Us in California for Munzee’s Official Birthday Bash!

UPDATE: We’ve added a new Virtual Garden to the CA event area! Read below for more info!

Munzee is turning 8 this year, and Friday, June 14 will kick off a whole eight weeks of birthday events! As we’ve announced, the Official Birthday Bash will take place in Tustin, CA with the California team this year! You can RSVP now to join Craig, Mick, Mari, and Tamara, as well as Matt, Dylan, and Emma flying in from MHQ, for an unforgettable 8th birthday bash on July 20!

Official Birthday Bash

All team members attending Munzee’s Official Birthday Bash on July 20th will be equipped with new badges for your scanning pleasure!

Players in attendance can earn exclusive Traveling Team Badges when they meet FT team members at events! Players at GeoWoodstock earned Texas license plates, but attendees at the CA Birthday Event can earn these retro Cali license plates. That’s the power of love!

We’re also happy to announce some awesome Virtual Gardens that all players can deploy in to get in on the birthday celebration fun even if they can’t make it out to the Golden State! Feel free to deploy in the Keytar and Magic 8 Ball gardens while there are still available spaces! Follow the links to the spreadsheets to help us grow these groovy gardens and if you need some help check out our “How to deploy in a Virtual Garden” help guide article!

UPDATE: With players filling up the Keytar and Magic 8 Ball gardens at a rapid pace, we decided to add a third garden to the area for your deploying pleasure! You can now deploy in the Controller garden, but you better act quick before spots fill up!

There’s nothing like the joy of CapOn points to get you in the birthday spirit! While we have yet to release a pink event pin, these gardens are both deployed near the event location. Stay tuned for the pink pin, which will be deployed sometime in the next week.

We will also be releasing more information about the birthday bash in the near future! For now, you can get started on earning CapOn points or picking out your best 80s attire (maybe dusting off some old boxes) if you plan to attend the event in person!

Don’t forget even if you can’t make it to California for our get together, there may be a Munzee event near you! Check out the Munzee Event Calendar and RSVP today!

Munzee with Matt!

If you’re unable to make it out to California, but still want to celebrate Munzee, luckily there are plenty of events to fuel your summer! (Or winter!) There will also be a number of opportunities to hang out with Matt, who will be attending the following Munzee events in July. He’ll also have exclusive Traveling Team Badges for each of his trips, so be sure to say hi!

Munzee Birthday Events Prepare to Commence!

Munzee is turning 8 next month, which means there are 8 weeks of birthday events to be enjoyed starting Friday! The 8zee’s (80’s) themed events will run from June 14 all the way through August 11 in order to offer plenty of opportunity to celebrate Munzee with your best retro attire!

While custom artwork is no longer available for the early birthday events (players booked it up fast!), we have awesome generic artwork packages available! Generic artwork packages cost $50 for an icon and $50 for a badge. Badges can be customized to include the event name, place and date. These retro designs are a great addition for your event attendees to earn! If your event is late July or August custom artwork is still a possibility.

We encourage players to keep adding events to the calendar, as there are plenty more chances to host over the next 8 weeks! There are 4 available packages for hosts to choose from, along with a unique host badge for each package!

There will also be an Attendee Badge to earn, as well as plenty of extras to scoop up during the celebrations!

Magic 8 Attendee – attend one of the 8zees birthday bash celebrations to earn this badge!

With birthday events kicking off this weekend, we can’t wait to see how players celebrate the 8zee’s! Remember the event host will choose a winner at each event based on best 80s attire. In order to earn the special badge for winning this costume contest, the event host must send the player name and photo taken at the event of the winning look to Louise. Unfortunately we will not be able to award any Best Dressed badges without those two pieces of information, so be sure to get them in!

Best Dressed 8zees badge- start planning your 80s outfits now for the chance to win!

Although Best Dressed winners will be chosen by event hosts, we want to see ALL OF YOU in your retro 80s attire! So share images to social media of your coolest throwback threads and be sure to use #8zees and tag us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter!

Two more great bits of news for event hosts! In the next few days you will notice new tools available for you to control your events more through the calendar admin section. You will be able to slightly tweak the coordinates for your pink pin, set cohosts, AND control your go live time. All of this is to allow event hosts the ability to adjust final details as needed. You will also be able to archive your event when it is over.

Also we are preparing to move your event communications to a new email address. Louise will be moving over the next few days to work from events@munzee.com — Current hosts will hear from her with details on events and future hosts will begin their communications at the new address. Thanks for your patience while we move her systems!

Munzee on!

Remember that the Official Birthday Bash will be held with the California team this year in Tustin, CA! There’s still plenty of time to RSVP and join the California Team, Matt, Dylan, and Emma in the Golden State!

**You must login on the calendar page to indicate you are going to an event now**

Turn Back Time With Munzee Birthday Events!

The theme for our EIGHTH birthday event packages is the 8zee’s (80’s) so we’re looking to have a rockin’ retro time this summer!

As a reminder we will be hosting our Official Birthday Bash with the California team this year!
Tustin, CA: July 20, 2019- RSVP!

Get your events on the calendar (https://calendar.munzee.com/submit) and choose from one of the following packages. There are 4 available, each with a unique host badge!

  • The 8-Sided Dice Dungeon Master – Basic event and no proximity restrictions – $30
  • The 8-Bit Gamer – The Dungeon Master plus 20 virtuals – $50
  • The 8-Track Rocker – The Gamer plus badge and icon – $150
  • The Super8 Filmmaker – The Rocker plus Eventzee – $200

Magic 8 Ball Add-on – If you would like your guests to receive a free emerald garden pin, this can be added onto any Birthday package. – $25

In celebration of all the GR8 times we’ve had, we’re extending this year’s event packages to run a total of eight weeks as well. Birthday events can begin starting June 14th and running all the way to August 11th!

There is a badge to be won at each event for the most retro 80s themed clothing, too. So dust off your leg warmers and ra-ra skirts, crimp your hair, polish your pixie boots, and above all else shine bright in something neon! If none of that made sense, that’s ok! Dress how you did in 1985! The event host will choose the winner, and you’ll also be featured on the blog. How rad is that?!

As always, there will be an Attendee Badge and plenty of extras! Get your events on the calendar, package requests in, and artwork suggestions in ASAP, especially if you’re hoping for merchandise, too. As our artists’ schedule starts to fill up, we will move to generic art options to avoid missing out on special event badges.

We look forward to having a blast from the past with you! Munzee On!

P.S. In celebration of the 8zee’s birthday announcement, we’ve also put our 80’s Blast From The Past personal tags back on sale for the next 24 hours! Remember with each purchase you get a FREE Blast Capture as well, but you have to add that to your cart. All of these details are below. The 80s tags will be available until May 22 at 15:00 MHQ time. April POTM Recognizes Top Munzee Hosts!

We asked, you answered! Our April Player(s) of the Month criteria called for players to nominate the “host with the most” for the chance to earn the POTM title. While our past POTM have seen a wide berth of players awarded for their Munzee contributions, we decided to narrow down our April POTM finalists to include players with the most votes. However, we’d like to make it clear that many hosts and cohosts were nominated, and we appreciate all players who take the time and effort to host Munzee events and bring players together. With nearly 200 nominations, it’s clear that many players feel the exact same way!

Of course we needed our Global Events Manager Louise to help weigh in on the many nominations. Congratulations to the following players who were both nominated and hand-selected by Louise to be the April Players of the Month:

Remember, anyone who earned the Player Of The Week badge previously IS able to earn the Player Of The Month badge as well! Each month we announce a different set of criteria to award some of the many players who make Munzee so great. Stay tuned for our May POTM criteria announcement! Who knows, you might just be a winner. 😉

What was the best Munzee event you ever attended? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! Thanks to all who sent us their nominations, and a big thank you to each and every one of you who have hosted or co-hosted an event. And if you’re looking for the chance to get together with a bunch of players and earn some extra points, remember Munzee’s birthday is on the horizon! And it’s not a birthday without a party! 🥳

Congratulations, and Munzee on!

PSA: Events in October

Howdy Munzee community around the world!

October was already going to be a busy month for events with all of the Halloween events on the calendar! However over the past 4 days many of you have shown your commitment to reaching Level 5 in the Clan Wars in a new way, by hosting events. Due to the overwhelming number, over 130 as of the time of this blog post, I felt it was necessary to give all players a few expectations for events.

Event hosts are important to us at MHQ. You’ve always been a generally smaller audience interacting directly with Louise, our Worldwide Events Manager, and have come to understand our systems. With this new rush of hosts and events we would like to welcome you, and share a few words of wisdom and some expectations.

The first is easy, understand you are not the only host Louise is dealing with. Respect her time and your own by FULLY reading her event creation email because it includes ALL of the information you need to be a successful host.

Second, be prepared in advance. Louise is great and she works at all hours of the day and night, but she may not be able to handle your “emergency” in a timely fashion if you haven’t prepared yourself. Again, most questions she has are covered by the email she sends you with your account details, please read it fully. You can also seek the advice of others who have hosted in the past or work together with others to share the load.

Third, Location Location Location! Events need to be in their own location. You cannot have 2 events in the same place around the same time, otherwise it is considered one event. Have the 2nd event at a later time in another location.

Finally, YOU ARE AN EXTENSION OF MHQ* to any players who attend your events. You could be the first person to introduce someone to this great game! Please understand that event hosts are held to a higher set of rules:

  • Many events have proximity rules lifted so they can deploy physical munzees in crowded areas. This does not give you the right to break the rules and teach others to do the same.
  • All deployments should physically be in the location where the pin is on the map, just like the regular game.
  • No event should have multiple munzees to scan at a single location.
  • No event should be conducted with a sheet of paper with munzees on it to scan as you walk/ride/drive from one location to the next.

The rules of the game are in place for a reason. Event hosts are held to a higher standard and need to set an example for all players. This is an important point for us because you are representing the game of Munzee to a wider audience. YOU are growing the game. We appreciate that very much and ask that you do so respectfully.

Thank you for reading these rules and requests, violations are being dealt with in accordance with the player code of conduct.

Let’s all have a great time in October and maybe we’ll see you at some of the events!

Munzee On!

Rob, President of Freeze Tag Games

*you are figuratively an extension of MHQ. not literally. 😉
