Hey, everyone! A much requested, and long awaited, feature has just been added to Munzee. We’re so excited to tell you about it!
We know for a long time, some players have requested the ability to be able to change their username. We’ve finally been able to setup a way to make this possible and make sure it correctly updates all your Munzees, account data, etc.
All Munzees you have previously deployed will be converted. All Munzees in your undeployed list will be converted. You lose NOTHING!
This feature will cost 1000 Zeds per use.
How do you do this, you may ask? Visit the Munzee website and the feature to Change Username will be under Settings.
Then, simply scroll down to Change Username, and voila!
Some important things to note:
After changing usernames you will need to logout and log back in on the website AND the mobile app across all devices
Usernames are case sensitive, so be extra careful when typing new usernames
After you change your username, you may change your username to one of your own previously set usernames if you have name change regret
There are no limits on how many times you can change your username
Only a-z, A-Z, or 0-9 are allowed as characters in a username (no spaces or special characters)
No refund on name changes – the details are tracked in your credits history

The masterminds over here on Team Munzee have been brainstorming ways that we can improve the performance of Blast Captures and we’re excited to announce….we’ve finally done it! Players can now set off Blasts without having to wait until the previous one finishes! That means more Blasts in less time! No more ignoring your friends while you watch the screen, waiting to blast again at events!
This will also make Boosters much more efficient! No more getting stuck when trying to set off more blasts! With the ability to quickly blast one after another, you should have ample time to queue up plenty of Blasts while a Booster is active. NOTE – While blasts can be queued up quicker, please keep in mind that the boosters must still be active when each individual Munzee is processed and captured in order for any bonuses to apply. The more Munzees blasted at once, the more time it will take to capture each one. To keep things processing quickly, we recommend setting off smaller chunks of Blasts at a time. For example, 4 mini blasts should process faster than 2 regular blasts even though both are 200 total munzees.
While blasting you’ll also notice that the pins will update MUCH quicker than before to either show as captured or disappear from the map!

Have you checked your Munzee account details lately?
We want to make sure you don’t lose access to your Munzee account! A future update will require you to use your e-mail address instead of your username to log in. This also means that any Munzee accounts sharing an e-mail address must be updated so that they have unique e-mail addresses.
Please do take some time to make sure your e-mail address is correct. You can do so at https://www.munzee.com/settings. Make sure to click the green [Save Settings] button if you make any changes!
Ever since we introduced the Mini and MEGA Blast Captures via the In-App Store, we’ve been monitoring their processing times and also how they affect the overall app’s performance. Over the years we’ve made various code changes in the hopes of improving things, but after our recent tests, we’ve decided it’s time to retire the MEGA Blast.
As you can see in the first screenshot below, we’ll be removing the MEGA Blast from the selection screen and will also remove it from the In-App Store. Since 1 MEGA Blast could capture up to 500 virtual munzees, while regular Blasts can capture up to 100 virtual munzees, if you have any MEGA Blasts in your inventory, we will be converting them to regular Blasts at the exchange rate of 1 MEGA Blast = 5 regular Blasts.
Another change shown in the screenshots above is that we’ll also lower the max number of Mini Blasts and regular Blasts you can fire at once. You will only be able to fire 4 Mini Blasts or 3 regular Blasts at a time (200 – 300 virtual munzee captures). We’re making this change for the same reason as removing the MEGA Blast — to improve the app’s performance and reduce processing times.
While we understand that the convenience of setting off a larger number of Blast Captures will be missed, we believe that this change will provide a better experience in the long run — instead of wondering when your blasts will complete, they should finish within just a few minutes once this update is out. In addition, you’ll be able to set off more blasts much sooner, which is especially good if you have to move to another location. No more feeling like your phone is locked up by in-process blasts!
Last week, we announced an update we were making to Premium Memberships. Now that the date and time we stated has come, we wanted to take this opportunity to review the list of current Premium Membership benefits — if you’re a Premium Member, you may not be taking advantage of all there is to offer! Here is the most up-to-date list of everything you get, with links to more info and visual guides underneath:
If you aren’t already a Premium Member, you can purchase a Yearly Membership via the Freeze Tag Store or the In-App Store. You also have the option of purchasing a Monthly Membership via the In-App Store.
Lately we’ve made many updates to Premium Memberships. Just last September, we created the Monthly Premium Membership which we thought would be useful to those who only need Premium abilities at certain times of the year. Two months later, we added the ability for Premium users to use filtered blasts. Last month, we experimented with our first ZEE-Dayz exclusively for Premium Members.
This update brings more improvements to the Premium Membership. To make sure you’re adequately informed, we’ve written this blog post so that you will know of the changes in advance.
The changes described below will be effective as of 12:00 MHQ on Monday, May 2nd.
Out the Door
At the time stated above, the Munzee app will no longer support the Multi-User Login (MUL) feature. Our team has gone back and forth on this feature for quite some time, so we feel we owe our players some transparency as to how we came to this decision.
When the game was first introduced almost 11 years ago, the MUL was created for families who played together and only owned 1 device. Over the years devices for multiple family members have become more common, and although we understand the convenience the MUL has been more trouble than we would like.
Our evaluation of the MUL went something like this:

Cons
Allow families with multiple Munzee players to easily play on one device
Quick access for another player if battery dies or signal is lost
Most families with multiple Munzee players are now able to provide a device for each player
Players who create fake accounts take advantage of this feature to quickly accumulate points or meet requirements for Clan Wars, badges, etc.
Development time is increased as new app features must distinguish between the active account and any other logged-in accounts
Testing time is also increased as we must make sure that all app features work even as we quickly switch between 3 different accounts
The ability to quickly switch between accounts is quite rare among apps — a unique feature rather than one that is standard
Knowing that the original purpose of the MUL has been outgrown, along with all the other cons listed above, we have decided to remove the MUL from the app.
In light of this change, we encourage players to carry external batteries to keep their main device charged and/or bring extra devices in case issues come up so that they can switch and continue playing — things which many of you are already in the habit of doing.
Otherwise, it just takes a few extra steps to log out and then log in to another account the old-fashioned way.
In Comes More
We understand some will be upset by the decision to remove MUL, but we want to continue to offer a positive Premium Membership experience. So we’re excited to announce that we are in the process of testing out 2 NEW additional features we think all Premium Members will enjoy. Please understand that these new features are a trial/test and we want to gather feedback from players to make sure this is an appropriate addition to the game.

This will bring the total to 10 custom filter presets!
Standard munzees will now attract 4 bouncers
Landing Pad Destinations will now attract 7 bouncers

This month has unexpectedly shifted focus for us at MHQ. We’re excited to announce that the latest Munzee update is officially live! The newest over-the-air update streamlines Munzee Magnet activation, and includes a number of new Deploy Modes for the different layers of the map!

Magnet Weekend Celebration
Starting at 00:01 MHQ on Saturday July 20, 2019 all physical and virtual Munzee Magnets will attract up to five bouncing munzees for 2 hours! This celebration will end Sunday July 21, 2019 at 23:59 MHQ. This means your Magnets are even more powerful just in time for 8zees Birthday events for the weekend, including our California Birthday Bash! To sweeten the pot all Premium Munzee members will also be awarded one free physical Munzee Magnet on Saturday as well! So if you’re not Premium hurry and join before 00:01 MHQ tomorrow!
We also have a special deal on Magnets in the Freeze Tag Online Store! Although players are limited to 10 magnets of each type every 10 days, you can now purchase physical and virtual Magnet 5 Packs for a limited amount of time! From now until Monday, July 22 at 10:00 MHQ five packs of Magnets are available for $4.50. There is a limit of 2 of each Magnet pack per customer, which means you can get an additional 10 of each Magnet type for this weekend, even if you’ve already purchased your ten for this time frame!
Munzee Magnet Update
It’s now easier than ever to Magnetize Munzees in the app! Simply go to the Details page for the Greenie or Virtual you want to Magnetize and you’ll see a bright red “Magnetize” button. This button will only show on munzees that can be Magnetized, so no more guessing and checking! When you go to Magnetize a munzee you’ll also be able to see how many Magnets you have in stock from a pop-up confirmation message.

Deploy Layers & Filters Update
Following the Munzee Map Split last month, we’re excited to announce that additional filters have been added to separate the different deploy layers in the game. This makes it much easier to tell where you can deploy certain types of munzees!
Each layer will use different colored proximity circles so you can easily tell which types are which:
Deploy All Types Mode – all colors, all types
Physical Deploy Mode – original red color
Virtual Deploy Mode – blue color
Flat Deploy Mode – green color
Temporary Virtual Deploy Mode – yellow color
Event Deploy Mode – pink color (only visible on event accounts
You can access these different deploy modes from the Filters section of the app. To help with all of these different types of munzees we have also given Premium members two additional custom preset filters, for a total of five.
Different map layers are distinguished by different color deploy circles!
