Event Spotlight: Munzee Mecca 2024

Even though you can play Munzee solo, the world of Munzee isn’t just about individual play; it’s about the thrill of connecting with fellow Munzee enthusiasts! Picture this: Munzee Events, where the air is exciting as veterans mingle with newcomers in a safe and welcoming setting. And hey, there’s more than just swapping stories –activities, games, and, if you’re lucky, snagging a sweet goodie bag! But let’s not kid ourselves; pulling off these shindigs takes some serious elbow grease. That’s why we’re shining the spotlight on past events! Get ready to be inspired to throw your bash if you’re a newbie or inject some fresh mojo into your gatherings if you’re a seasoned host.

Let’s get this party started! 🎉

Today, we’re featuring the Munzee Mecca Events, which took place over the weekend at various locations in Orlando, FL, USA. The weekend was full of events put together by a number of hosts, but for this Spotlight we chatted with host Linda Gartley, AKA CoalCracker7!

Special thanks to the other hosts, MsYB, MrsCB, Jafo43, Whelen, Munzeeprof, EagleDadandXenia, Xptwo, JackSparrow, Chickenrun, Asangel, YankaBucs, BuckeyeCacher111, NYBossMacdonr, and TheLanes, for all of their hard work as well!

Munzee Mecca Stained Glass House

Hanging out at the Stained Glass House in Lake Nona!

Please give us a summary of your event.

There were five events held over four days. The Thursday night event was a pre-meet and greet at the edge of a lake. I passed out the ten stops for the Tour of the Town Badge. Friday night was held at the Stained Glass House. We had a special badge for capping specific physicals. The main event was on Saturday. The event was held in a multi-use park with Roller Hockey, Splash Pad, Dog Park, Skate Park, Pickleball, and Soccer fields. We had Walking Tacos and Walking Nanner pudding (Banana Pudding) along with a drawing for a Premium Membership.

We also played a version of Name That Tune. Clues were also given at each event to find one hidden personal tag. The Space Coast Geo Store was set up for everybody to buy Munzee-related items (i.e., lots of blasts). The Saturday Night Event was held at an Adventure Park with Water Skiing and Football and Soccer Fields. Saturday’s events also provided the opportunity to earn two additional badges for capping specific physicals on Saturday. The last event was on Sunday at the Wave Hotel Sculpture Garden. We provided donuts and coffee before everyone left for the day to go home. The Friday night, Saturday Main, Saturday Night, and Sunday morning events went mega.

What made your event unique?

We had visitors from Europe and all around the U.S. We also hosted special visitors, CoachV, SeeMyShell, and a Geocaching Vlogger. We had a total of five events over four days, with many new gardens to capture.

What tips do you have when hosting an awesome event?Munzee Mecca Host

I believe that a good host should have lots of munzees available to capture, new gardens, and a variety of badges.

Would you like to highlight any future events you’re hosting?

I will cohost the Florida Munzee Mecca Events in January 2025, and Macdonr will be the lead for those events.

Thank you to CoalCracker7 for being such a great host and submitting the details for this event! We will reach out to other past event hosts in the future, so keep an eye on your inbox!

Destination Renovation Part 3: Hotels!

There’s a reason we included Hotels as one of the types you can earn Candy Corn Credits from — not only does it perfectly fit in with our Halloween theme, it also was the next on our list for an upgrade! It’s been tough to rework these more complex game pieces, but we are excited to announce that Destination Renovations are now LIVE for Hotel Munzees!

This new feature will allow players to renovate Hotels and add additional rooms for even more capping fun. You’ll be able to renovate any Hotel Munzee (whether you own it or not) on both the web and Munzee app. Find a breakdown of all the details below!

Hotel Details

Hotel Munzees are now on a star-based system like Virtual Resorts and Motels. Each star ranking equals 5 rooms, so effective immediately all original Hotel Munzees have been converted into 2-Star Hotels. The icon images on the map are currently updating, but if you do see a “blank” or original Hotel icon please note, that is indeed a 2-Star Hotel. The image caching should be resetting throughout this first day or so.

Renovating Hotels will offer the following:

  • 2-Star Hotel: 10 Rooms (Standard Hotel)
  • 3-Star Hotel: 15 Rooms
  • 4-Star Hotel: 20 Rooms

By renovating you could be a part of a 4-Star Hotel that is worth a substantial amount of points! Every time you Renovate a Hotel you’ll earn 50 points as well, so get your construction hat on!

The Destination Renovation is currently only available for Hotel, Virtual Resort, and Motel Munzees aka Destination Munzees!

So how do you Renovate a Hotel? The same way as Renovating a Motel! Check out our Help Guide article if you need a refresher!

All Hotel Munzee credits have now been converted into Destination Credits. Players will need Destination Credits to renovate and deploy Hotels. You will see this conversion documented at munzee.com/credits as 2 destination credits for each hotel credit you owned.

  • Renovating a Hotel = 1 Destination Credit per 5 rooms
  • Deploying a new 2 star Hotel = 2 Destination Credits

Don’t forget to check if you already have Destination Credits in your inventory! Otherwise, you can purchase Destination Credits in the Freeze Tag Online Store and the In-App Store (click HERE if you’re on your Munzee-playing device), so be sure to stock up in case you come across any Hotels, Virtual Resorts, or Motels with no vacancy!

We hope you’re raring to use more Destination Credits with this new option! We’re always looking for ways to refresh the map and add value to game pieces you may already own!

Destination Renovation Part 2: Virtual Resorts!

Last year we took the first step in converting our Destination Munzees into a more flexible system with Motels and Destination Credits. It’s been tough to rework these more complex game pieces, but we are excited to announce that Destination Renovations are now LIVE for Virtual Resort Munzees!

This new feature will allow players to renovate Virtual Resorts and add additional rooms for even more capping fun. You’ll be able to renovate any Virtual Resort Munzee (whether you own it or not) on both the web and Munzee app. Find a breakdown of all the details below!

Virtual Resort Details

Virtual Resort Munzees are now on a star-based system like Motels. Each star ranking equals 5 rooms, so effective immediately all original Virtual Resort Munzees have been converted into 3-Star Virtual Resorts. The icon images on the map are currently updating, but if you do see a “blank” or original Virtual Resort icon please note that, that is indeed a 3-Star Virtual Resort.

Renovating Virtual Resorts will offer the following:

  • 3-Star Virtual Resort: 15 rooms (Standard Virtual Resort)
  • 4-Star Virtual Resort: 20 Rooms
  • 5-Star Virtual Resort: 25 Rooms

By renovating you could be a part of a 5-Star Virtual Resort that is worth a substantial amount of points! Every time you Renovate a Virtual Resort you’ll earn 50 points as well, so get your construction hat on!

The Destination Renovation is currently only available for Virtual Resort and Motel Munzees, but it’s safe to say construction on other Destination Munzee types is slated for some time in the future!

So how do you Renovate a Virtual Resort? The same way as Renovating a Motel! Check out our Help Guide article if you need a refresher!

As Virtual Resorts are complete Virtual Munzees, they have NOT been converted into Destination Credits. Players will need Destination Credits to renovate Virtual Resorts.

  • Renovating a Virtual Resort = 1 Destination Credit per 5 rooms.

Don’t forget to check if you already have Destination Credits in your inventory! As more physical Destination types are given the ability to renovate, these types may also get converted into Destination Credits. Otherwise, you can purchase Destination Credits in the Freeze Tag Online Store and the In-App Store (click HERE if you’re on your Munzee-playing device), so be sure to stock up in case you come across any Virtual Resorts or Motels with no vacancy!

We hope you’re raring to use more Destination Credits with this new option! We’re always looking for ways to refresh the map and add value to game pieces you may already own!

NEW Greeting Card Packs in the In-App Store!

With the release of the Motivational Message Cards last week, we thought it would be a great idea to show some love to the past card designs by making them more readily available in the app! If you’re looking to complete your collection, we’ve included some past Limited Edition cards, and some Open Edition cards that, while technically not “Limited Edition,” were still tough to get your hands on.

Please note that these packs are only available in the In-App Store, not in our online store.

We hope these packs will make deploying Greeting Cards much more convenient!

Munzee Event Safety Concerns

Like many around the world, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation. Although our real-world adventure game encourages players to explore the areas around them, the safety of our players is of paramount importance.

At this moment we are not canceling any Munzee Events that hosts have put so much time and effort into planning. We instead will be extending the Fall Into Spring event time frame through May 31st, or later if necessary. So any themed event packages purchased can be rescheduled to a different time during this period. As always please reach out to Events Manager Louise Gibson by emailing her at events@munzee.com for all of your event needs.

We encourage hosts and players alike to use caution in the weeks to come regarding their own personal safety. We urge you all to stay safe and follow local guidelines in regards to large event gatherings.

Regular gameplay can still be enjoyed around the world, but we do caution those in areas with higher risk of COVID-19 to use their best judgment when playing. Clan Wars will continue as planned, so we suggest players communicate with one another to help grow virtual gameplay for those worried about safety in their area.

We thank you all for your support of our game. Our mission has always been to build community through active gameplay, but above all we must keep player safety as a top priority. We will continue to reassess the situation in the weeks to come. Stay safe and Munzee on.

Destination Renovation Explanation!

…renovating a MOTEL!???

If you build it, they will come. But what if you’ve already built it, and players have come and gone? Well we’re looking to do a little construction, so we’re excited to announce that Destination Renovations are now LIVE for Motel Munzees!

This new feature will allow players to renovate Motels and add additional rooms for even more capping fun. You’ll be able to renovate any Motel Munzee (whether you own it or not) on both the web and Munzee app. Find a breakdown of all the details below!

Star Struck:

Motel Munzees are now a star-based system. Each star ranking equals 5 rooms, so effective immediately all original Motel Munzees have been converted into 1-Star Motels. The icon images on the map are currently updating, but if you do see a “blank” or original Motel icon please note that, that is indeed a 1-Star Motel.

Renovating Motels will offer the following:

  • 1-Star Motel: 5 rooms (Standard Motel)
  • 2-Star Motel: 10 Rooms
  • 3-Star Motel: 15 Rooms

By renovating you could be a part of a 3-Star Motel that is now on par with Virtual Resorts in terms of number of rooms, but worth so many more points! Every time you Renovate a Motel you’ll earn 50 points as well, so get your construction hat on!

The Destination Renovation is currently only available for Motel Munzees, but it’s safe to say construction on other Destination Munzee types may break ground soon!

So how do you Renovate a Motel? Well first you’ll need a Destination Credit!

Destination Credit:

All Motel Munzee credits have now been converted into Destination Credits. Players will use Destination Credits to both convert generic munzees into Motels, and also to renovate Motels.

  • Converting a greenie into a Motel = 1 Destination Credit
  • Renovating a Motel = 1 Destination Credit per 5 rooms.

You may see that you already have Destination Credits in your inventory. These were previously Motel Credits you had earned, for many players. As more physical Destination types are allowed to renovate these types may also get converted into Destination Credits, but for now Destination credits can only be used for Motels. You can purchase Destination Credits in the Freeze Tag Online Store, so be sure to stock up in case you come across any full Motels!

A Note on Motel Munzee Stickers:

If you have pre-coded Motel stickers that have yet to be deployed, they should still work just fine! When you go through the deploy process, you’ll just see a 1-Star Motel pin in place of the old Motel pin. However, if you do run into any issues, sticker-related or otherwise, please e-mail support@munzee.com!

How To Renovate A Destination:

You’ll be able to renovate Motel Munzees in the app AND on the Munzee website!

Anyone can renovate a Motel Munzee in the app:

  • Navigate to the Munzee Details of the Motel you would like to renovate
  • Tap on the blue [Renovate Destination] button at the bottom of the screen
  • Confirm that you would like to use a Destination Credit in the following popup
  • That’s it!

Destination Renovation Screenshot

Only the player who owns the Motel, or ZeeQRew members will be able to renovate Motels on the Munzee Website:

  • Click [Edit Munzee] on the munzee you would like to renovate
  • Click [Renovate]
  • Click [Upgrade] on the level you would like to make the munzee
    • The number on the left is your inventory of Destination Credits
    • The number on the right is how many Credits it costs to renovate
  • Confirm that you would like to use a Destination Credit in the following popup
  • Success!

Benefits Of Destination Renovation:

Alongside an increase in CapOn points for Motel room owners there are a number of benefits for Renovating Munzees!

  • If you try to cap a Motel and find that it’s full, you can renovate it and then cap it again to get a room for yourself.
  • If you wanted to help friends or clan members get into a full motel, you can renovate it from any location in the world.
  • If your own Motel is full, you can renovate it to get more CapOn points from other players who might flock to get the new rooms.
  • If you’ve got a lot of Credits in stock, but no room to deploy Destination Munzees, this let’s you make your existing Motels even better!
  • Offer to renovate other players’ Motels in exchange for virtual trades!?! Help grow the worldwide community.
  • Make physical Destinations that require physical activity even MORE valuable!

We hope you’re as excited as we are for these new credits! We’re always looking for ways to refresh the map and add value to game pieces you may already own!

Take a walk around your neighborhood — maybe the landscape has already changed!

Jewel Magnetization + New Packs in the In-App Store!

As we head into the last few days of February, we wanted to cap off this jewel-focused month with some exciting news!

Jewel Magnetization

One of the ideas we bounced around in the recent gameplay survey was whether you would like to be able to magnetize more munzee types. The majority was in favor of this idea, and it made sense to us, too — why not give Magnets more bang for their buck? Starting from today via an OTA update you can now use Physical Magnets and Virtual Magnets on Jewel Munzees!

The specific Jewel you magnetize will still only bring Bouncers that land on that type of Munzee though, so you’ll be able to have a bit more control over what you’re attracting. This should help Myth chasers encounter some of the rarer myths out there, like Chimeras and Goblins.

You can easily magnetize jewels within the app, but you can also magnetize on the web as well. To learn more about Magnetizing munzees visit the Munzee Help Guide.

New Packs Available Via The In-App Store!

To complement this new feature, we’ve also added new multi-packs to our In-App Store! Now you can use Zeds to buy the following products in packs of 10:

  • Physical Magnets
  • Virtual Magnets
  • Mini Blast Captures
  • Blast Captures
  • MEGA Blast Captures

We hope these changes add value to items you probably already own, and make gameplay more streamlined! We’ve also heard you would be interested in purchasing Zeds online. We’ve added them to the store now, for a LIMITED time! So stock up while you can for access to the new items in the In-App Store!

There are a few more surprises to come which we think you’ll enjoy, so keep an eye out for our announcements!

Finding A Munzee Event Near You Has Never Been Easier!

Munzee Events have proven time and time again to be a great way to maintain the wonderful player community and to grow the game by introducing it to new players. As we’ve said before, one of our goals this year is to make Munzee Events easier for both hosts and attendees. We’ve taken steps toward that for hosts with our line of Event Spotlight blog posts, so now it’s time for us to do the same for attendees!

We’re excited to announce that you’ll now be able to check out Munzee Events near you and more in our latest over-the-air (OTA) update!

Upcoming Events Screenshot

Munzee Events List Updates

One feature we’ve always wanted to improve in the app was the Events area. If you aren’t sure what we’re talking about, here’s a quick tutorial — tap on the Hamburger Menu and then tap on [Munzee Events].

We decided to take the best of both worlds! The current version of the app was designed to show much more helpful information than the Event Indicator pin’s munzee details. Now, the app displays the same information displayed on the Munzee Calendar, combined with the old way of showing the Event Indicator pin’s location. The list now shows the following:

  • Name of the event
  • Date of the event
  • Time of the event
  • A button to take you to the Munzee Calendar details

Additionally, events are now ordered in the list by date and time, which should be helpful for days with a series of events, such as the recent SunCoast and OzDayZee events, or the upcoming Munzee Madness 9 events! Distance-wise, events up to 500 miles away will appear in the list, in case you feel like taking a LONG drive!

Event Details Screenshot

Munzee Events Details Updates

We also updated what happens when you tap on an Event Indicator in the list to view its details. Along with the name, date, and time of the event, there is also:

  • A link out to the Munzee Calendar so you can easily mark whether you’re attending the event
    • NOTE: You’ll need to log into your Munzee account on the Calendar page for this to go through!
  • The address of the event location
  • Any extra details provided by the event host

As before, you can use the [Map] button to jump to the Event Indicator pin’s location on the map. This makes it easy to check if you’ve deployed any munzees nearby so you can rack up the points once the event takes place!

We hope this makes it much easier to find an event to look forward to, to pencil in some time for Munzee in your busy schedule, and to find more Munzee players nearby!

If you are a prospective Event Host, we hope this gives you a push in the right direction, as it should be much easier for people to find out about your event! Don’t forget that we are currently offering Spring Event packages if you want to match with our current theme!
