Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Zee Folk and Leprechauns!

As promised at the start of the week, we have some more St. Patrick’s-day themed fun for you to enjoy all the way through the end of the month! Keep an eye out for these little green men — they will be hard to spot, but you may find your pockets a little heavier after an encounter! And no, they’re not aliens — or are they?

Zee Folk Details

Starting at 12:00 MHQ today, Zee Folk specials will bounce around the map until 23:59 MHQ on March 31st.

Only 17 Zee Folk specials will be available to cap! They will bounce around every 4 hours or when capped. Zee Folk will appear on the following landing pads:

  • Greenies
  • Physical Shamrocks
  • Virtual Shamrocks
  • Flat Rob
  • Flat Lou
  • Green-colored Virtuals:
    • Virtual Sea Green
    • Virtual Granny Smith Apple
    • Virtual Green
    • Virtual Forest Green
    • Virtual Asparagus
    • Virtual Olive Green
    • Virtual Yellow Green
    • Virtual Green Yellow
    • Virtual Spring Green

As these specials are so rare, they will be worth 1,000 points for the Capture and 50 points for the CapOn! You definitely don’t want to miss out! They will be attracted to Magnets. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

When you capture a Zee Folk special, there is a chance that you will earn 17 Zeds! The popup that appears after you’ve captured a Zee Folk will let you know if you’ve earned any, so make sure to keep an eye out! You will also find them on your credits list.

There are 3 badges you can earn for capturing Zee Folk. You can check out the first below!

Limited Time Scatter Details

For the same period as Zee Folk activity, when you capture a Leprechaun or Leprechaun Variant, up to 3 Colored Zeds may be scattered nearby! These are the same Colored Zeds that scattered out of Rainbow Trails last year!

If you don’t own any Leprechauns, or would like to own more, you can pick them up in the store HERE! Remember that as of the Cyclops and Nymph Variant release last year, you can purchase multiples of the same myth! For a detailed explanation of how that works, refer to the blog post HERE!

Like last year, Colored Zeds will stay on the map for 1 hour or when captured. Each will award 100 points AND potentially a small number of Zeds to your account! We thought this would be a fun way to accumulate some extra currency to go towards Magnets, Secret ZeeOps, or whatever you want!

For more information about Leprechauns and their variants, check out our Help Guide articles HERE and HERE!

International Colour Day

According to the International School of Colour + Design, March 21st is International Colour Day because “around the equinox (aequi-equi+nox-night) the sun shines directly on the equator, and consequently, day and night have an approximate length all over the Earth.” As you know, how we perceive color is greatly affected by light sources — so if day and night are more similar for everyone around the world, the colors will appear more similarly to everyone as well!

To celebrate, we’ve got 2 new colorful things you might be interested in: a NEW badge and NEW generics available in the Freeze Tag Store!

The strips come with a sticker in Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet. Each order will include two strips of 6 generics (12 stickers total) for $1.00. The codes are generic so the stickers can be shared with any player.

For now there is only a limited quantity available, so if you’ve gotten attached to them, snap them up ASAP! Depending on how popular these end up being we may restock them in the future!

We hope you enjoy these additional rainbows of color!

Chase ZEE Rainbow!

As stated in our post on Friday, we are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation, and stress that player safety is a top priority. We have a lot of fun things planned over the next few weeks, and are trying to consider the wide variety of situations our players are facing. Tweaks have been made to our original designs to accommodate this. That being said, we are not planning to stop rolling out new game pieces or app updates anytime soon! Our goal is to give you options to “Play your way” safely!

It seems the umbrella Flat Matt opened may come in handy, because Rainbows are here! Immediately following the Flat Day the 13th: Part 3 specials, we are happy to introduce our brand-new Rainbow Trail specials! Starting at 13:00 MHQ on March 17th, Rainbow Trail specials will begin bouncing around the map until 23:59 MHQ on March 31st.

Rainbow Trail Details

777 of these specials will bounce to Greenies, Shamrocks, and Earth Mystery munzees every 7 hours or when captured.

This cheerful arc will be worth 77 points for both the Capture and CapOn, so you don’t want to miss out! As it is a physical MOB, it will be attracted to Physical Magnets on Greenies. To access these specials, please turn on your “All Expiring Specials” and “All Limited Edition Specials” filters.

When you capture a Rainbow Trail, up to three different Colored Zed Munzees will generate (like Feathers) and scatter within 1,000 feet. As we are aware that many players may be under quarantine, we’ve extended the capture radius from our original limit to 300 feet.

These munzees will stay on the map for 1 hour or when captured. Each Colored Zed will award 100 points AND potentially a small number of Zeds to your account! We thought this would be a fun way to accumulate some extra currency to go toward useful items like Blasts and Magnets, especially during these tough times.

Badges

Additionally, there will be two badges to earn for these specials. One based on the number of Rainbow Trail specials you capture, and one for the number of Colored Zeds you capture. But just how many captures it takes to earn both badges will be kept a secret! However, we will reveal the first badge in the line, which appears as follows, so maybe that will give you a hint!

One more thing before we go! Leprechauns and Shamrocks really wanted to join in on the fun too! All activity on Shamrocks, POB Leprechauns, and Leprechaun variants will be worth double points during this entire special! To celebrate we’ve put Shamrock Credits on sale for $1 and added Leprechauns back into the store!

We hope you’ll see some rainbows during this stormy seclusion!

The Down Under #E1EW Tour Recap!

It’s been a few weeks since Rob took the first step in our 2017 #E1EW campaign. Now that his body clock has readjusted to MHQ time we thought it would be good to update you on the trip he took “Down Under.”

The number of players met in Melbourne, Shepparton (Shepzee), Queenstown, and Auckland made the hours and hours of travel time well worth it. The tour started with a nice Italian meal in the suburbs of Melbourne attended by players from near and far. It was a first chance to meet Louise, and a great time for Rob to reminisce with players he’d met on a trip 2 years ago at the same restaurant. The manager even remembered him, but it might have been because of the large group and the suit! This was a great chance to sit and talk with players who had recently started playing the game and hear about how the game was growing down under.

Next it was time for the big event on Australia Day! January 26, 2017 over 100 players traveled to Elsternwick Park in Melbourne for a great event. The event hosts thought of everything and arrived early to secure a shelter with built in grills for players to barbeque their lunch. Everyone had a great time celebrating this national holiday with friends from near and far, Rob & Louise even dressed up for the occasion! Rob’s personal highlight from the event was seeing the excitement as a group of friends surprised Debolicious with their attendance. The dancing and screaming was proof that the surprise worked 100%. Louise loved that the hosts planned a celebration for her birthday with cake and a card signed by everyone. Once again she thanks all of you for that special effort.

The next day our event duo was off to meet with the Tourism board in Shepparton, talk with the mayor, and attend multiple events. During a 2 hour drive north from Melbourne to Shepparton, Rob experienced something new. He was the passenger, capping a long trail of resorts tying Melbourne to Shepparton. It was difficult on occasion to time it just right to cap within 300 feet so he made some notes about a change that needed to occur. Capping while driving is definitely not encouraged, but a new capture proximity has been put in place to help passengers. 500 feet (approx 152 meters) is the new capture range, thanks to the play on this trip. The deploy proximity has not been changed and will remain 3500 feet.

The tourism board in Shepparton is interested in setting up munzees and using the app to help track the moooovement of their cow art exhibit. This is part of a “Get mooooving” campaign to get the residents of Shepparton and surrounding areas active and ties in with the E1EW campaign of Munzee. One of the employees set up an account during the meeting and even showed up at the event a few hours later! The event was organized by local players led by “Down Under Rob” aka Rob Steer aka rubik80. He gets a special mention in this blog post because he worked with the city of Shepparton to setup this special Get Mooooving event at Victoria Park LAKE. (DU)Rob set up for the mayor to attend and announce that Shepparton’s name would officially be changed to Sheppzee for the duration of Team Munzee’s visit! This was the first time such an honor has been bestowed on Munzee and a very touching moment. It was amazing and cemented a place in Munzee history for this special town.

Next on the agenda was a special Munzee event held at the Aussie Hotel in downtown Shepparton. At the event, hosts from different states of the Australian federation presented Rob and Louise with gifts from their respective locations. Gifts to learn more about the area, the sports, and the people were heartwarming but most unexpected were the gifts to bring home to the kids. The gifts are displayed at MHQ as a daily reminder of the people who live nearly ten thousand miles from MHQ but are a big part of the game! Thank you to each player who attended the dinner and to those who presented the gifts, they mean the world to us.

CZeeO Rob Vardeman, Munzee Events Manager Louise Gibson and Australian player Rob Steer AKA Rubik80.

Saturday morning a group of players from Western Australia hosted an event near the main “Cow Park” in Sheppzee, complete with a very fun Eventzee hunt. The hunt was a great tour of the newly named town of Sheppzee which concluded at the visitor center. Everyone had a great time and a special presentation was made to the founder of Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. Rob presented a check for $2500 on behalf of Munzee players worldwide to Allan, Zaidee’s father. During the event special cards were sold with funds also being donated to ZRF, and one more crazy thing. Rob is known for wearing crazy and colorful suits, made by Opposuits. One of the hosts came up with the idea to allow players to wear the jacket for a picture for a five dollar donation to ZRF. Over $100 was raised just from jacket pictures! In the end a final donation of $3250 was given to ZRF on behalf of players in the spirit of our E1EW 2017 campaign!

Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation event

Next up on the “Down Under E1EW Tour” was an event in Queenstown, New Zealand. Rob and Louise organized the event as a brief meetup during a personal holiday extension to spend time with Louise’s sister and family. Half a dozen players traveled from all over the south island to meet at “Cowboy”, seemingly appropriately named for the visitor from Texas. 🙂 Everyone had a great time trading Munzee stories and also added to the ZRF donation via special cards purchased at the event.

The final event of the Tour was held at One Tree Hill in Auckland, New Zealand. Players gathered from all over New Zealand’s north island and a few even visited from Australia. It was lovely to chat with the players who are really beginning to grow a large group locally, even forming several clans. One special event munzee was even deployed on Louise’s 15 month old niece, Nia, giving players the mission of catching a roaming toddler! The hospitality of the players from this event was special with many gifts, some handmade, that are now on display on the other side of the world! A few of the tasty gifts even made nice snacks for everyone back at the office, so a big THANKS to the Kiwi Players.

2017 started with an amazing journey to the other side of the world, but we couldn’t think of a better group of people for the kick off. A heartfelt thanks from Rob and Louise for the hospitality and the conversations that mean the most at events. We take the ideas from these conversations and turn them into action back at MHQ, including the Bilby host badge for upcoming events. Stay tuned for more lessons learned and adventures to be shared over the course of the year.

Everyone. Everywhere.

Welcome to the family!

We would like to welcome a new Munzee type to the growing family!

The Munzee Stash!

The Munzee stash is a colorful cube to be deployed with a choice of 6 vibrant colors.  The color you choose will have a unique distinction on the map, a special capture icon, and be 1/6 of earning a special badge.  Here’s a screen shot of each color deployed around MHQ:

map

The stash comes pre-loaded with 25 generic stickers to trade with players who find the stash. Another unique feature is the ability for the first five who find the stash to deploy their own sticker (included) on one side of the cube. The points will accumulate similar to the Munzee motel. Take a sticker, leave a sticker! It’s a great motto for the new stash!

Due to limited stock and shipping costs these items will be sold at Munzee events and through authorized Munzee resellers for the month of April on a trial basis.  Additional quantities will be added to the store soon when all shipping requirements are met.  Be sure to place your order today!

And last, but not least, THE BADGE!  When you deploy a Munzee Stash in each of the six colors available (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) you will earn The Irish Badge.  This is the perfect badge to add to your collection.

RainbowBadgeWe can’t wait to see the map light up with the colors of the rainbow and know you will welcome The Munzee Stash to the family!
