December Resolutions Ask You to Dig Deep!

We’ve done it! We’ve reached the final month of 2019. Looking back at all the previous months, how has your journey of self-improvement gone thus far? This month we’d like to expand on the previous month’s theme of volunteer work by opening it up to all forms of giving.

Giving from the heart can cost nothing!

Since January, we’ve been releasing monthly Capture Streak badges centered around a year of personal improvement. Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution in our quest for a year of positive growth and change. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. Besides volunteering, let’s consider the other ways in which we can give more!

The Good of Giving More

Everybody has limited resources. During the holiday season, this is probably felt even more so, as you struggle to cross off names on your own Nice list. Volunteer work is a great way to give more as it often only costs you time — but how else can we give more without further breaking the bank? Maybe you’d still prefer to give to strangers — in that case, have a tidying up session and donate your gently used items that no longer spark joy! The benefits will be twofold — you get a cleaner home, and someone else will get something they want and/or need!

If you need to ease your way into it, you can start by giving in your very own home! Is there anything around the house that needs to be repaired? Put on your ZeeQRew hardhat and fix it! Is there a Global Grub someone in your family has always wanted to try? Buy the ingredients on your next grocery trip and get cooking! Has it been way too long since your last Family Board Game Night? Break out the MH-Qlue, Monopoly, or your own preferred tabletop game and see if your strategies have improved since last time… or not!

Perhaps the most important way to give more, in today’s world of mental health and anxiety issues, is to lavish someone with words of love. Tell your loved ones that you love them. Spread the love to more distant family members and friends by calling, texting, e-mailing, or even sending snail mail to let them know how much you care. If you are already in the habit of doing those things, try complimenting a stranger. Many of us have been taught that “actions speak louder than words” and prefer to use actions (such as those listed in the previous paragraph) to show how much we care — but sometimes, actions are too subtle. Sometimes, we need to hear with our own ears that we are loved.

And that’s a wrap! We hope you enjoyed this year of Resolutions! Let us know which one you took to heart the most!

November Resolutions Focus on Giving Back

We’re one day away from Halloween, which means we’re only two days away from the start of November! The holiday season is rapidly arriving, but while we anticipate festivities, gifts, and gatherings, our November Resolution is centered around giving back through volunteer work.

Time helping others is time well spent

Since January, we’ve been releasing monthly Capture Streak badges centered around a year of personal improvement. Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution in our quest for a year of positive growth and change. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. Now let’s explore the meaning of this month’s badge in the quest to help others in need.

Values of Volunteer Work

The excellent news is volunteer work is a two-way street. Not only does volunteer work enhance the lives of the recipients, but it has profoundly positive effects on the volunteer as well. Volunteer work brings about personal growth, allowing people to expand their horizons, sharpen their skill sets, and have the opportunity to develop new strengths. While volunteer work can certainly make you feel better about yourself, it can also add to your resume and assist you with your career goals.

Volunteer work is important to personal growth, because it provides the opportunity to connect with people. The experience of volunteering is very rewarding, allowing the volunteer to make a positive change in the lives of others. The act of service is often propelled by directly witnessing how your good deeds affect the lives of those you assist. Overall, regular volunteer work is believed to increase self-esteem, widen your perspective, and expand your network in an environment that can often be fun.

When searching for the right place to volunteer, there are a number of factors you can keep in mind. While there are plenty of places that need extra hands, you can narrow down your options based on your skill set. Consider your true purpose in life and know what you have to offer in order to select a volunteer place that can best utilize your strengths. Choose what kind of a difference you wish to make in the world, and invest your valuable time in working for a cause that supports your goal. Along the way, you’ll be able to discover many wonderful things about yourself as you give back to those around you!

October Resolutions Aim To Push Fears Aside!

October is a scary good month, filled with all kinds of frightfully fun wonders, such as Halloween Events! Not a fan of spooky situations? Well, our October Resolution is here to challenge you to face a fear!

Be like Batman! Face what frightens you!

Since the start of the year, our monthly Capture Streak badges have been centered around a year of personal improvement. Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution in our quest for a year of positive growth and change. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. Ready to learn why you should conquer your fears?!

Fear is Not a Factor

Do you positively freeze up when asked to speak in public? Do you get dizzy when you’re above ground level? Do you faint at the sight of blood or needles? Do you scream when a snake slithers by or a spider slinks down its web? Fear is a perfectly normal, and at times necessary, part of life and survival. However, what we fear has power over us. Whether it prevents you from flying, addressing crowds, visiting the ocean, receiving necessary medical procedures, meeting new people, or any other variety of life hindrances, the things we fear hold us back from living our lives to the fullest.

There are many reasons why facing your fears can promote success in your life. Facing your fears, rather than hiding from them, will allow you to distinguish between what you should truly be afraid of and what fears are exaggerated. In turn, you will learn more appropriate responses to situations. For example, though fears of dangerous animals are certainly valid, you might realize that you can relax and let yourself experience more in life through activities such as flying, swimming, speaking in public, meeting new people, and not avoiding heights. By examining your fears, you can understanding which ones are holding you back and learn how to overcome them to benefit your life.

Overcoming fear is critical, because not only does it remove self-imposed limitations and open the possibility for wonderful new opportunities, but it causes us to develop courage. Courage is a hard-earned asset that grows every time you face something that frightens you, making you a more fortified and confident person. Facing your fears also assists in developing a wide arrange of positive attributes from wisdom to compassion to resilience.

Don’t allow what you fear to hold you back in life. Go out and face it, and you’ll discover many positive things about yourself along the way!

September Resolutions Call for Less TV Time

If you’re reading this, your nose is clearly in a screen, but this month we’re challenging players to turn away from the one that many of us have mounted on our walls. You don’t have to set it on fire, but for September Resolutions, we are challenging players to watch less TV and spend more time exploring the real world!

*We do not accept liability for any burned television sets

Since the start of the year, our monthly Capture Streak badges have been centered around a year of personal improvement. Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. Each of the badges allows for the chance to work towards a different in order to bring about a year of positive growth and change!

Press Pause

Many of us lead hectic lives, and there is nothing wrong with unwinding on the couch at the end of a long day with your favorite television program. However, there is a difference between enjoying a show or two and having to continually confirm on Netflix that you are still watching. While you don’t have to give up television all together, there are benefits of limiting TV time.

Television has an influence on your worldview, and it is likely not an accurate one. Unless you’re only watching documentaries, it’s likely that you’re seeing a myriad of careers (from doctors to lawyers to police officers) inaccurately portrayed on the small screen, which subconsciously shapes how you view the world. In a larger sense, this sense of false reality submersion can create false expectations in life and lead to disillusionment with reality, adversely affecting interpersonal relationships along the way. The end result? Overall less satisfaction with your life.

It’s likely no surprise that television influences your spending habits, with the power of advertising becoming virtually unavoidable thanks to measures such as product placement and subliminal advertising. While advert advertising is easier to see, when messages are less obviously interspersed throughout programming, they can become harder to actively avoid. In addition, too much television drains your mental energy and impairs rational thinking.

And, of course, one of the main reasons why too much TV is bad for your health is because it robs us of precious time that we could be spending with real people in the real world. So grab the ones you love and head into the real world to discover what your surroundings have to offer. Of course if you happen to Munzee along the way, that’s just an added bonus!
