July Resolutions Are Here!

While you still have a few days left in June to put your iced coffee money in your savings account for June Resolutions, we’re already looking to the future for our July Resolutions badge! From eating healthy to traveling more, our monthly Capture Streak badges have been centered around a year of personal improvement. As summer heats up on the Northern Hemisphere, this month we challenge players to lose weight (if you need to for your health)!

Each month’s unique badge is dedicated to accomplishing another New Year’s Resolution. Like our Super Streak badges, you will be awarded a badge if you capture at least one Munzee* each day for the entire month. The monthly Capture Streak badges allow for the chance to work towards a different goal each month in order to bring about a year of positive growth and change.

Losing Weight for Health

While folks on the Southern Hemisphere might be bundling up, the Northern Hemisphere is well into bathing suit season. And for many, the rise in temperature is accompanied by a heightened dissatisfaction with one’s physical appearance. Weight loss, however, shouldn’t be something that is appearance based. It might sound cheesy, but if you’re asking yourself “do I have a summer body?” the answer is “do you have a body?” If you say “yes,” then you’re all ready to hit the beach!

While it’s crucial to accept your body as is, that doesn’t mean that you can neglect your health. If your weight is impacting your health, then it’s time to lose weight the right way in order to feel better and increase your longevity. Rather than gravitate towards a fad diet or “lose weight quick” scheme, the two main components of weight loss are diet and exercise. The number one reason why diets fail is because they are unsustainable. By changing your lifestyle choices permanently, you will never again have to grapple with the disappointments of “yo-yo dieting.” Just be sure to find a healthy meal plan that works best for YOU.

While counting calories can lead to unhealthy behaviors, it is beneficial to be aware of factors such what you eat, how much you eat, when you eat, and how often you eat. Keeping a food journal, or tracking your food intake on one of the many helpful dieting apps, can help you become more aware of what you put into your body so that you can make more informed dining choices.

When it comes to staying active, the playing field is unfortunately not even. However, if you have underlying medical issues that are prohibiting weight loss, you can still set daily goals for yourself. We are so proud of how many players have achieved monumental fitness accomplishments, especially after many have shared their stories of chronic physical disabilities and illnesses that they refuse to allow to hold them back. Remember, the only person you have to compete with when it comes to fitness is yourself. Focus on personal growth rather than comparing yourself to others, and remember that health is always the goal.

Tips for Saving

While some are naturally skilled in the art of restraint, others need more motivation to hold themselves back from bleeding their wallets dry. However, no matter how careless you might be with your spending, it is entirely possible to reverse your financial situation by adhering to ways to save money. To maximize your long-term profits, take advantage of interest when moving around bank account assets. Take inventory of the items you have accumulated over the years, and rather than continue to add to the collection, consider what you can sell. There’s a good chance you can profit from scarcely used items in your possession.

Instead of purchasing items when the mood strikes, carefully plan your shopping endeavors. Collect coupons, sign up for rewards programs, and stock up during seasonal sales. Purchase items in their off-season, and plan ahead for holiday shopping. For example, it will be far more cost effective to purchase winter apparel at the end of the cold season and save it for the next year if you know you’ll be needing a new coat in the future. Be thrifty with your spending, and don’t leave important purchases or gifts for the last minute. By planning ahead, you can secure the most desirable prices rather than shell out extra cash for a last minute need.

Stick to your shopping list, and restrain from impulse purchases. Decide which nights you want to go out, and stick to a set budget when you do so or plan social outings around discount nights. Take care of the items that you do have, and invest in high quality, long-lasting items rather than disposable trendy apparel. Be conscious of how much money you spend on take out and eating away from home and how often you waste electricity. Investing in smart appliances is a great way to lower bills and help the environment.

No, you won’t be able to take your money to the grave. But with life being so unpredictable, you never know when some extra savings could be your saving grace. Additionally, by abstaining from giving in to momentary purchases and whims, you can save your hard-earned money for things that matter, like visiting a faraway friend or relative or doing something that you’ve dreamed of. Avoid hardship down the line and open the possibility for more opportunities by being a bit more reserved with your spending.

New Year’s Resolution Streak Badges!

With the new year nearly here, we’ve all got ways we’d like to better ourselves in 2019. Easier said than done, right? Well we know how tough it is to keep up with new year’s resolutions so we’ve put together a rewards system to help keep you on track! How you ask? By capping munzees of course!

We’re excited to announce that starting January 1st we’re launching monthly Capture Streak Badges focused on various New Year’s Resolutions. Similar to the Super Streak badges all you have to do is capture at least one munzee* each day for the entire month. If you can make it through the whole month you’ll be awarded a badge themed to that month’s resolution goal!

To kick things off we’re all going to try and eat better in January! Look, nobody likes french fries and desserts more than us, but we need a little more greenery in our lives! 

Did you know?

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, just 1 in 10 adults in the US eat the recommended amount of fruit or vegetables? Depending on various factors federal guidelines recommend that adults eat at least 1½ to 2 cups per day of fruit and 2 to 3 cups per day of vegetables.  By having fruits and vegetables in your daily diet you can reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity. While some countries may have a better percentage of healthy eaters than the US we know there is always room for improvement!

We know capping a munzee each day won’t magically make you eat better, but we hope as you work towards this capture streak you think about grabbing an apple on your way back! We’re all in this together and if nothing else it will help you get one step closer to the yearlong capture and deploy streak badges. We’ll have a different resolution badge design each month, but try and keep up with your resolutions throughout the year! We believe in you!

World Photo Day Contest Winners!

World Photo Day 2018 has come and gone, but we still have some winners to announce! We asked our players to submit photos they took when playing Munzee using #WorldPhotoDay and #MunzeeOn and WOW we had a lot of great submissions.
